    I have used this for years in highly pressured bass fishing lakes and this will literally outfish just about anything. I use weightless EWG worm hooks and pearl white Zoom flukes.

    I’ve always wondered how to tie a loop knot. Awesome.

      That's just 1 of many loop knots.

  • @MrTalmaguer
    @MrTalmaguer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Adding a barrel swivel to the loop to connect your main line to could avoid having your main line cut the loop in half.

      Yeah I use a modified Albright like tying on a leader but the second lure goes on the tag end. So there's no loop and it's the same knot I've always used for tying on leaders.

    Looks like they would twist up when not using swivels. Also I make these double rigs up and put them in quart size zip lock bags there ready when I want to change in the water. Enjoy your vedios.

    Quick tip for yall before you tie your surgens knot Loop hook the hooks on your guide closes to the length you want the lures and then tie your surgens knot and you'll have somewhere to hook them so they don't get tangled you do it once then it clicks in your head and your like o wow I coulda been doing that the whole time Tight Lines 😅 🤘🏼🤘🏼

    I wonder if paddle tails would work?

    • @comfortablynumb9342
      @comfortablynumb9342 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely. When I was a kid growing up fishin' in Sarasota we bought Love's Lures tandem jig rigs that had a grub with a flat tail or curly tail. The Salt Strong guys have mentioned them too. People made tandem Cotee Jig rigs too. Both were deadly for trout in the 80s. It really doesn't matter much what kind of tail you put on your jig heads, whatever catches fish. The tandem jig rigs have been used for a long time with lots of combinations of lures.

    based on my experience and fishing similar rigs for different species, I think I'll try this out. The adjustments I'm going to experiment w/ are tying a 3-way swivel & using different color baits...this is how we hunted for Crappie and Small Mouth when trolling, so I assume it would apply to salt as well. Additionally, we used deeper divers in the front, which will cause the rear bait to drop lower, yes it's still independent, but that seemed to work well, based on experience. Curious if Luke has any thoughts 1 year after this video?

    How do you keep them from getting tangled that's my biggest thing can you use a three-way setup like your line going to the top like a bass rigs use and two lines going out it's like a keep some separated it's called a three-way

    Why not try using a 3/16 or so weighted weedless hook on one bait and a weightless hook on the other? If you use a Z Man soft plastic on the weightless one it should ride way higher than a weighted one and it might have a good action. I'll have to try when my packs of jerk shads gets here from y'all.
    I've always tied tandem jigs on my main line with the same knot I use for tying on a regular leader but I don't cut the tag end, it gets the second lure. It's not something I've used a lot but it seems to work. It's a little cleaner because you don't have that loop to tie the main line to. I've wondered about hooking big fish with the lure tied on the tag end and haven't caught anything big enough to test it. Maybe the loop method is better. I remember Love's Lures tandem rigs having a swivel but I don't see how it helps.

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That could work! Just be careful the lines don't get crossed up that will affect the action on the lures

    Would this work with paddle tails?

    • @Lees920
      @Lees920 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, and especially well with grub tails and curly tails. A former St. Petersburg company called Love's Lures did it from the '70s through about 10 years ago when the original owners died. They had sold the company to another person who sold it again, but they are no longer in business.

    At 1:20 did you mean to say 1/4oz. You said the light one was 3/16 and the heavier was 1/8. Are they 1/8(light) and 3/16(heavy) or 3/16(light) and 1/4(heavy). Could you verify those weights and hook sizes? I can't find 3/16 3/0 so I'm thinking maybe it's 1/8 3/0 and 3/16 4/0. Would this be a good rig for OBX up through VA coast near the bay? Thanks!

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I meant to say 1/16th oz... both hooks sizes are 3/0, and the light one has a 1/16th oz weight while the heavier one has a 1/8th oz weight. Yes, this rig should work up there too.

  • @paulcarpenter8152
    @paulcarpenter8152 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    i gotta say i really dont recommend weighted hooks, unless your fishing deep. if your rig your flukes right you wont have the helicopter problem, and the presentation is more natural looking, especially when your jerking and working, and then just kill it, they suspend right in the water and most times your strike will come then

    Instead of tying a surgeon's night directly to the main line why wouldn't you use a swivel I'm mainly a bass guy and we tie the double fluke rig or donkey rig most of the time I've always seen people use a swivel is there a reason you don't like the swivel

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The swivel method works too. I just prefer this one because it's quicker to tie and requires less equipment.

    • @brettwhitmire1131
      @brettwhitmire1131 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Careful using swivels in saltwater. There are some toothy critters that see that flash of the swivel and will hit it and cut you off.

      Same as an H&H "Speck Rig" or "Redfish Rig." They work under a popping cork. Split ring a snap to the bottom of your popping cork(4Horsemen style) so you can quickly connect the double rig.
