How good are these guys? The fun & energy in this is infectious. This was done during quarantine so none of the guys were even together. The editing of this was great & was done in the Tik Tok style. Love all the guys parts, with Tim's rumbling bass underlying it all. And Adam's beatboxing is phenomenal as always including sea swells & castanets. Amazing how he increased the tempo from one song to another. Some of my favorites by Home Free are "Take Me Home Country Roads", "Honey I'm Good", "In The Blood", "Blue Ain't Your Color", "Hillbilly Bone", "American Pie", "When A Man Loves A Woman" etc.
I've been in love with Home Free since The Sing-Off and Every performance is Brilliant. But what I am waiting for is your reaction to Adam's "drum solo" performance. You Honestly won't Believe what he can do!!!😳😲😁😁😁
3 pirates and 2 longshoremen. 🤣 I always have to mention Adam's castanets in the last song because so few mention them. Still have no idea how he does that.
Some of them are actually in the 6500 voice sea shanty community project. There is also a clogger, an octopus, an d a ton of pirates! From the southern US to Sea Shanty UK! 🏴☠🏴☠🏴☠
Be sure to get the God Bless the USA with Lee Greenwood and the Singing Sergeants of the Air Force band. They have an earlier one. And you are about ready for Mayday!
It has been 7 years to the day since I first saw Home Free in concert, so I feel like this is so fitting... especially since this is one of my favorites.
I don't know how they do it but they do it so well. Adam Rupp holding down that entire song..the Castanets ..Just Master's of their craft for sure. So much you can do. "Some Girls Do" features Chance... Mayday ...you want a surprise...Mayday..."Woman, Amen" there's a whole lot..lol..."End of the Road" ...Picking just one is tough. Love your energy. Look forward to whatever you choose :)
Gosh, I really enjoy your reactions to Home Free (and PTX). You are so authentic in your joy. A beautiful cover they did with Billy Gilman is “One Voice.” It made me cry.
There is just as much energy and fun in your reaction as in the clip. Really amazing! But Home Free does it again! Lots of fun, great singing and incredible vocal percussion!
I'm willing to bet I wasn't the only one yelling "CAREFUL WITH THAT SWORD, AUSTIN, YOU'LL HAVE SOMEONE'S EYE OUT!" at the screen... okay, maybe I *was* the only one... Yeah, Home Free radiate positivity, and they're great guys 'off-screen' as well. Austin and Tim usually try to outdo each other in terms of costume and 'getting into character' with their more comedic videos - best proof of that is in their cover of Rick Astley's 'Never Gonna Give You Up' (yes, they did that one - and, safe to say, they NAILED it!) And definitely do 'All About That Bass' at some point as well.
Home Free’s version of the first shanty in this medley is a viral sound on Tiktok. There’s a dance for it, it’s been used for tons of exercise clips, and lots of other clips.
Another song you might enjoy Champaigne taste on a beer budget. Champaigne is an original song written by Tim. They also have The Driver that's really good.
I knew all but one and the one I did not know was Santiana. I fell in love with it and looked up the lyrics, figuring like the others, it was cut short and sure enough. That said, it gets quite dark after Home Free ends the song. I was really hoping they would do the full version but as there are loss of limbs and suicide mentioned, I don't think they have any plans to expand the song but oh my goodness, love what they did!
I actually knew all of those songs, and was singing along, but I have a bit of an advantage having worked at Renaissance Festivals for nearly two decades. They did such a great job with this medley and really did the shanties justice.
I knew most of these as I worked as a sailor on a big sailing ship. The captain (Captain Carl) was big on us singing shanties. They can be addictive when working the deck.
I loved your reaction because you literally expressed what we Home Fries feel when we listen to this song. Amazing considering they weren't even in the same place to perform their parts. They were all in different locations. I absolutely loved Adam's beat boxing/vocal percussion. He took it to another level. The wave sounds and castanets. Just brilliant. Thanks for the great reaction!
These are all standard old sailor's songs, usually referred to as shanties from the French "chanter" and related words. Some of the best have gotten into the electronic games that feature ships and sailing. I would like to see HF do more of them. Most of them, especially those with a tight simple beat, are work songs and help the sailors pull loads in a synchronous way so no one gets hurt and they don't drop and break critical equipment. They had a lot of very heavy things to pull/lift by hand on the old wooden ships.
Good enthusiastic reaction! I've only heard 2 reactors who knew all 5 shanties; one from US, one from Canada. Yes, HF! All songs that you mentioned are good ones.
This is a great video to give you the energy to clean, exercise, or just dance! Thanks for the reaction. Another good one from Home Free is "Champagne On A Beer Budget." It's hilarious!
saw them several times last year and everyone went nuts when they started this song. the entire venues shook for the duration of the song because of tim's low notes
I LOVE your enthusiastic reactions! Loved Adam’s castanets and the waves hitting the ship in the last segment! And “From Here to the Moon and Back” is BEAUTIFUL!
There are two Home Free songs you should really check out: When A Man Loves A Woman, and O Holy Night (official video)-They will blow your socks off! They both also have spectacular finishes!
Great reaction! You are absolutely right, these guys are really addictive. Home Free has the richest harmonies I've ever heard in a band. No matter what they sing, every note is crisp and clean. These guys do a damn good job. You should also listen to Between A Rock And A Heartache or Champagne Taste (On A Beer Budget), though it's very hard to choose for recommendations. I don't think there's a bad song by HF.
These sea shanty's just pump you up to get the job done! I love how people used music for motivation for mind numbing work. I love how great I feel after hearing this. Thanks for another excellent reaction!
The bigger feat here is this was done during lockdown in 2020!! Just fun!! Loved your reaction!! 💜💜 Gotta check out Mayday, My Church, End of the Road, When a Man Loves a Woman, American Pie, to name a few!
Agreed! Eventually (sooner than later!) you should watch ALL of the songs listed... especially "When a Man Loves a Woman", "Brothers in Arms" (their MASTERPIECE!), and "End of the Road"! ❤🎶👍
I only heard a couple of those songs before Home Free sang this medley and introduced me to the rest. My favorite is the Wellerman and the last song because it has a lot of energy and I love Adam making the castanets sound, he's so talented, they all are.
These guys are just too Awesome…..make you smile for the whole song…their voices are just way too Amazing …just plain Love these wonderful guys 🥰❤️‼️❤️🥰
I'm glad you're back with Home Free. They are amazing. I think you would love "In the blood", "Hillbilly bone", or "Blue ain't your color". I can't wait to see what you listen to next. By the way the "percussion instrument" that Adam was doing are called castanets.
I now them all!!! Born in New England USA (old whaling history…Atlantic sea country)with an Irish/Scottish mother!!! Thanks ….I love “Home Free” and they did such a great job!!!
I love love love Home Free they're great and somehow I had never heard this one! I was just listening to this one earlier and find it kind of creepy we found it the same day.🤣 great reaction as always! And wishing everyone a great day/night!
Loved your reaction. I played the hell out of Assassin's Creed Black Flag, too! I chased every Shanty sheet and could hardly wait to hear the crew of the Jackdaw sing them the next time we set sail. This medley always brings me back to the joy of that game.
Great reaction as always. Home Free is great at all their songs. Try the live versoin of ' 9 to 5', they all beatbox and sound great, I think you'd really enjoy it.
Enjoyed the enthusiastic reaction - more Home Free please. For a change of pace, to highlight their versatility, can I add to those suggesting "Brothers in Arms"? For an upbeat song with a nice message "Try Everything" and "In the blood" for thought-provoking lyrics and simple sounding yet beautiful arrangement. For full on high speed fun try "Ain't going down til the sun comes up" (note, the video is on Facebook for that one). No shortage of recommendations, very few misses because they serve the music and the message of each song so well.
@@GOTGames I HIGHLY recommend "Ain't going down ('til the Sun Comes Up)"!!! It's only on their Facebook page due to licensing issues with TH-cam. Well worth going there to view it! The energy, the fast-paced lyrics, and ADAM will blow your mind!! 🤯😉 Also highly recommend "Brothers in Arms"!!! Totally different vibe than usual, but done with great respect. Tim (with lowww notes that go right through you) & Chance (gorgeous baritone!) lead. It's sung from the perspective of a soldier dying on the battlefield, hence the breathy, soft voice in the beginning. He praises the bonds between brothers in arms, while lamenting the futility of war and the resulting death and destruction. It'll bring chills, for certain. The hauntingly beautiful 5-part harmonies are angelic and, in some places, soul-crushing! (no beatboxing in this one other than the wind blowing near the end). The original by Dire Straits has a LOT of guitar. I was wondering how HF could possibly do this song! I shouldn't have worried. 😳 The wall of sound they produce works every bit as well. ❤ I consider this Home Free's masterpiece.
Congrats on 100K subscribers!! This is such a fun song, and you really seem to enjoy it! You have good suggestions for more Home Free reactions, so I'll suggest something else. For your next Hua Chenyu reactions, do "Qi Tian" and "Bullfighting." They're his own songs, they're excellent award-winning songs, they make great reactions like Nunchucks, and they get a heck of a lot more views! Remember, "Qi Tian" and "Bullfighting." Thanks!
Tim Foust (bass) is from southeast Texas; Austin Brown (high tenor) is from south Georgia; Adam Chance (bass/baritone) is from Alabama; Adam Rupp (beatboxer) and Rob Lundquist (lead tenor) are both from Minnesota.
Love your reactions! New subscriber. Keep going deeper into the rabbit hole! Highly recommend Hillbilly Bone, End of the Road, When a Man Loves a Woman and Mayday. However, you need to wait to do Mayday until you're 10-12 deep into the hole to truly appreciate their vocal ranges first. Great reaction!!
Chance, the one you think looks like Leo Decaprio, is the one who convinced the others to do these sea shanties. He took the lead with his clear true baritone. They did it in separate locations. Adam Rupp brought out his new castanet sounds for the occasion and the guys obviously had a glorious time. Just what we all needed! You also need to listen to their other Johnny Cash cover, “Folsom Prison Blues.” Another recommendation that has the bass (Tim Foust) teamed with the arranger and tenor Peter Hollens, “Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold.” It’s a beautiful atmospheric song from The Hobbit. Peter layers about 120 loops of his and Tim’s voices, and the chords are amazing. Tim will drop you down a hole with the final note.
was that fun or what ????? They dropped a new song yesterday that is soooo beautiful, and it's a Dolly Parton song..."To the moon and back" bring a tissue as it'll bring a tear but it'll be a tear of joy !!! Those were castenets !!!
*hugs Luke and fam* These are snippets of actual songs/chants that sailors and whalers used to sing/chant to set the rhythm for their tasks on the ship. Many tasks required teamwork on a level we seldom see in modern life. Oh Holy Night by Home Free is awesome but needs to be saved for the Christmas season... same as Angels by Tom MacDonald. More Home Free, more Pentatonix, more VoicePlay and more Tom... #HangoverGangFam4ever 💕💕💕 #WaffleGang 💗💗💗
Check out their cover of "End of the Road" (Boyz II Men). It's fantastic! I also love "Blue Ain't Your Color" and "My Church". The sound you heard are castanets, not maracas--of course, they weren't the "real" instrument, they were Adam Rupp being amazing. If you want to hear something featuring castanets, check out "La Boda de Luis Alanzo" (The wedding of Luis Alanzo) with Lucero Tena (Warning: It's classical, which I know is a dirty word for some people, but I think it's pretty rad).
A real feel good medley done during lockdown. Home Free’s cover of Brothers in Arms is spine tingling. There collab with Don MaClean covering American Pie is ace. For Sea Shanties worth checking out Fisherman’s Friend, if you don’t know them already, try Nelsons Blood - it’s excellent.
Wow, as an Australian I loved hearing this so much ❤️ So many shanties made their way into our lives!! The shanty about Australia would've been when wool and wheat were being exported around Cape horn from Adelaide to Britain. Exciting times! Loved this much 🇦🇺💕
Of course we want you to do more Home Free! I would love if you would go back and react to their Sing Off performances, and if you do please include the introduction and the judges’ comments. Edit: for best video quality go to Ingrid Händel’s channel.
So much fun! At first I was like sea shanty? What? I only knew one song. They’re so creative. They did this during Covid so they filmed themselves at home. Tim and Austin went full pirate mode. Loved Tim’s low notes. And Adam’s beatboxing was incredible. You heard his castanets in the last song. How good is he? This was Chance’s idea. He’s the first singer. He is a fan of sea shanties so he brought the idea to the boys and they did it in the TikTok style. Pretty cool, huh? Love it. Great reaction GOT. 😀
I think you need to cover WAY more a cappella... ( PTX- HF- VP-) you only have 100's to choose from! I'm patiently waiting for "When a Man Loves a Woman" I really enjoy your reactions and I know that one will blow your socks off 🙂 Please keep more a cappella coming 👍👍👍👍👍
Some I learned as a kid at school in Scotland*, some picked up along the way, a couple I just don't recall hearing before 'cept, maybe, as a line or two in passing. *I think I can still 'sing' the whole of "Heart of Oak".
I love this medley of shanties and how Home Free performed them was amazing. I knew all the songs thanks to a singing pirate group at my local Renaissance Festival. They cover and create pirate and pirate theme songs and shanties and have several albums out. They are called the Jolly Rogers. 🏴☠️

Ah Tim's bass on this one was just awesome! They did country roads?!? 😮
@@GOTGames Their "Take Me Home Country Roads" is top tier - done in a ballad style with a mix of r&b/gospel. Yes, please give it a listen!
3 pirates and 2 longshoremen. 🤣

Look up people dancing to Home Free Sea Shanty Medley!! It’s a whole trend right now!! It’s great!

“Workin’ for a Living” is another fun one.

When something like Home Free makes you this happy, that's your clue to explore more of their videos. The Home Fries will be right there with you.
Your obvious delight in Home Free has earned you a new subscriber! These are my favorite singers ever!
1. Wellerman
2. Drunken Sailor
3. Leave Her Johnny
4. Cape Cod Girls
5. Santiana
Must check out Helplessly Hoping!!!......and Mayday!!!
Yo Ho!!!
The Gambler is great…. You should listening this one too!
Your enthusiasm for this made it even more fun. Thanks for making my day.

Brand new recording from Home Free called "From Here to the Moon and Back" featuring a talented young artist named, Maggie Baugh.
Your enthusiasm is infectious. I love your laugh. :) This is one of my new favorite songs from HomeFree. New subscriber.
Home Free’s version of the first shanty in this medley is a viral sound on Tiktok. There’s a dance for it, it’s been used for tons of exercise clips, and lots of other clips.

I knew a lot of them cause of the Groupe "Santiano". They make mainly music like that.
You had way too much fun listening to this song. I loved it, very infectious. It's such a fun song to listen to. Yes, do more home free.
I knew all but one and the one I did not know was Santiana. I fell in love with it and looked up the lyrics, figuring like the others, it was cut short and sure enough. How much fun is this? My favorite moment: we need castanets? Adam Rupp: hold my ale 😁
This is sooooo much fun! Adam's beatboxing is crazy good. I know you will enjoy it.
How about “End of the Road” (Rob at his soulful best), and “I Can’t Outrun You “, Chance lead, pure 5 part harmony, and Chance directed the video.
Adam Chance with "The Hound and The Fox" did a great cover of "Soon May The Wellerman Come" and "My Mother Told Me".
Yeah, the castanets are awesome!

Sea Shanties are amazing
They can sing everything i think, and so fun to see your reaction, yes you have to listen to Forever and ever amen i play that over and over 💞💞
If you enjoy shanties then you should give The Longest Johns a shot. They sing shanties and folk music. Or Stan Rogers, he sang Canadian folk music.
These guys are so amazing. So much energy and talent. CK out Between a Rock and Heartache
Castanets are the hardwood Spanish clackers. I also got a big smile when I heard Adam doing those.

Don't miss Adam Rupp's wave sounds on the last song. They're subtle, so easy to lose in the mix.
American Pie, with Don McLean is one of my favourites!
Someone asked Don McLean what the words meant. (They are an amazing history of early Rock & Roll)
He said, "They mean I'd never have to work again!!!"
when they sing this song in concert everybody is up and dancing
One of the best quarantine videos.

Oh yeah? Ah thank you for the recommendation! This really does put you in a great mood!! ❤️
Love viking and Celtic , marches and sing-along , bon fire songs , bless your gracious heart and may your household be graceful and happy always !
Great reaction! I've said it before that these guys could sing the warning label on a bottle of cyanide and make it sound appealing. lol!
Wow, as an Australian I loved hearing this so much ❤️
So many shanties made their way into our lives!!
The shanty about Australia would've been when wool and wheat were being exported around Cape horn from Adelaide to Britain. Exciting times! Loved this much 🇦🇺💕
I love the range of music they do. From bring you to tears to LMAO and everything between. Stick with them and you will never forget the trip 🤣😇😃
I remember when the sea shanties were everywhere! Even the version of “Rockstar” was SICK!!!
I always wanted to be a Pirate. Ironically, I get sea sick.
"tankard" is the word you're looking for.
Love the sea, love shanties. Those guys have fantastic voices and great harmony 🚣😁
Recommendation: more Sabaton 😎
More Sabaton to come!!
Your chuckles of sheer joy are adorable!
Love this group! One of my favorite songs.
So much fun! One of my aerobic exercise songs! 💖 And the "clacky things" Adam does in that last song or Mexican Castinets! Just amazing!
seen Home Free at the Alabama Theater In Myrtle Beach, SC Saturday nite it was a great concert
This is such a fun song and made even better with your reaction. Thanks!
You should check out Geoff Castellucci “Big John” and “sixteen Tons”
Love you man, so positive and upbeat, 67 y old, from south Africa enjoy 🌍🙏❤️🌹🧑
Several times a week I put this in to play on constant loop. Usually lasts about 39 minutes.
I am enjoying binging on your reactions this afternoon. I am commenting before you make a comment, expecting to be laughing shortly. 😂
Some I learned as a kid at school in Scotland*, some picked up along the way, a couple I just don't recall hearing before 'cept, maybe, as a line or two in passing.
*I think I can still 'sing' the whole of "Heart of Oak".
You should check out their live version of this. AMAZING!!
You are so enthusiactic!!❤❤I love it!!❤❤
I love this medley of shanties and how Home Free performed them was amazing. I knew all the songs thanks to a singing pirate group at my local Renaissance Festival. They cover and create pirate and pirate theme songs and shanties and have several albums out. They are called the Jolly Rogers. 🏴☠️
