  • This is a video of the first start of a 1975 Honda CB400f after sitting for @ 29 years. Tank and carbs needed significant cleaning but very little rust was in the tank. Brakes needed major cleaning too. Everything stock except tires, battery, exhaust pipe, and a few seals and things.
Incidentally, before starting the carbs were filled with gas to check for leaks. Also, the motorcycle was pushed around the street in gear with the spark plugs out to get oil up in the valves/cam and fill the oil filter area. I didn't want to start it after decades without at least some oil throughout the engine.

Nice! I hope to make my '76 400F look that good someday. It's a solid runner now but it needs some TLC.

Will NEVER see a more beautiful exhaust that those 4 pipes slanted to the right. Gorgeous.

I had this exact bike (1975) in ‘78 whenI was 16 yrs old. Hell of a bike.

My dad bought one in ‘75 just like this brand new. Still has it today. I’m trying to let him part ways with it to me.

I am in an almost exact situation. I have a 1977 f2 model which has been sitting in my father's garage since early 90's. Has about 8600 miles on the bike. Looks fantastic and is all original except for slip-on muffler my dad put on. Congratulations on reviving a beautiful classic!

Perhaps he should give it a few minutes to warm up without going immediately over 8000 rpm after sitting for 40 years. Thick blue smoke and heavy cam chain rattling. Not good, poor bike. I would never ever by something from that guy.

You weren't there. Sounds like hi revs but it wasn't. Cam chain was tightened after first start/warm up but made virtually no difference in slap sound. Blue smoke was explained -did you listen to video? Nik, it's spelled "b.u.y."

You clearly know nothing about this bike. The 400f was known for it's excessive cam chain rattle, that's just how it is. Also, I guarantee you he didn't even rev it past 5k. That's just how it sounds. But, he clearly didn't sync the carbs because it is idling and running extremely rough. The 400f is usually buttery smooth.

Yeah, I own exactly the same model and color, but here in my country sold as 1976 model. He clearly exaggerated in revving it up The smoke was a torture to watch. The sound was terrible. But to each their own. Hope he has lived great moments with the baby four.

@@overbuiltautomotive1299 On these bikes it's usually the chain & tensioner that goes bad like mine did back in the early 80s when I had mine ! This bike sounds terrible missing at idle & at high revs .

The engine should not sound like that on tick over. They should just rustle quietly. Why would you make a video of a bike that won't start and sounds like a bag of nails on tickover. Revving it up doesn't cover up the fact that engine is not running anything like how a four hundred four should run. Yeah it's shiny, but like the saying goes all that glitters isn't gold..
