  • After over a year we finally have a new update to the TX-6 by teenage engineering.
    This is maybe not the update we needed, but I'm happy to see that things are still happening to this little mixer.

    i was happy to see the update, specially noticed usb-c compatibility improvements. i need to play more with the aux sends etc, i think a lot of potential there.

    What do I want in a mixer: a synth, a sampler, a looper ... I don't think so.
    Extra FX: YES!
    OP-1 Field (synth, sampler), CM-15 (Mic), TX-6 (mixer + FX), TP-7 (recorder) and OB-4 (PA)
    The TX-6 is clearly loosing its focus concerning the Field line.

    never ask for "a few surprises" filip! ;) i can imagine the looper can be useful for more organic ambient type stuff, but i'm disappointed you can't reverse the loop. and pitching should be (at least) in octaves, not percentages. te should've looked at some monome norns scripts for inspiration. andrew cs' 'wrms' for example is relatively simple but extremely useful and inspiring

    1010music Blackbox is an overall more useful, and fun studio swiss army knife, imho.

      If it had a battery I would agree

      I would say maybe Bluebox is more closer to the TX-6 as a mixer, but as for looping then yes, Blackbox all the way.

      I just mean, overall. All similarities, and differences considered. Too bad Blackbox doesn't also serve as a mixer with a few tracks, but indeed, Bluebox is for that end.

      @@AmateurSynthusiast I'm completely acclimated to using external USB power, from powerbars, and packs. I have like 24 stereo ground loop isolators (GLI) in case I come across noisy USB gear. Remember, eventually that lithium cell inside, will need to be replaced. That tiny device will have to be opened up, and partially dissambled, for that maintenance job. Not that that's a big deal, with gear that has built-in lithium cell(s) because these days lithium cells last for quite a few years. My Roland AIRA S-1 has a built-in lithium cell, and it kicks ass! 😀

      @@DetroitMicroSound yep, I also using powerbanks with my blackbox, but they could have do it like Sythstorm did with Deluge. Easy accesss for user batery exchange. But then I guess the size of the BB would be double ;-)

    Still no way to set date or even name on recordings on USB C drive. Can you believe it? all my recordings with one date … date of the TX6 release ;-) BTW this update was out few months already.

      @@flundlip the date of the release is on the download page 2024.04.11 ;-) TE does send emails about big updates again sometimes months after the release …. to re-inforce the sells, maybe?

    one small detail to be aware of- you can only record one loop i think? so when you play back a loop and move it to another track, you had kind of implied in your video something like "you can record different parts if you only have one cord..." or something... but yeah you can only have one loop at a time. for me the use of moving it to another track is because let's say you loop from track one. that loop will play on track one but as long as its playing you can't also hear the input on track one. so if your setup is how you have it in the video with only one cable into tx6, you can loop from that input, and then move the plack back of the loop to another track so you can continue having the track one input live?

    It seems they either decided to reuse some of the software they developed for the EP KO II as a TX-6 update, or they were working on this update and realized the hardware limitations of the TX-6 merited making the EP KO II. Probably the former, but who knows! An update is an update

    If you just let the drum loop play, you could have gotten a better loop. If it’s anything like the ob-4 it uses beat detection and is actually suuuper smooth and easy to get good loops

    • @flundlip
      @flundlip  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I tried that, but it didn't work like that for me, but I agree that would make sense since it has beat detection. But I'm sure they'll improve it later tho. I hope so.

    • @Ancaja123
      @Ancaja123 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@flundlip it’s certainly an interesting feature. People cry about the lack of an output on the ob-4 but I think it would be harder than most realize to incorporate a beat synced rhythmic loop into a composition unless you were just playing over it
