When I was at school I had a friend that was from a very religious family. She had to hide her harry potter book under her bed. One day, her mother found it and simply burned it. The book was from the school library and it was chaos once the school discovered what happened.

no contact damage, doesn't force you to go into the boss room upon discovery, allows backtracking. this game is amazing
What's so awful about the satanic panic is that it's so outlandishly crazy and backwards that a lot of people who never lived through it will think it just never happened, or was drastically blown out of proportion.
People don't realise the sheer capability of villifying/glorifying anything that religion enables. It's like the one thing that can turn humans into almost eusocial animals and that is terrifying.
Lol honestly when Leshy bonk his head around and his eyes goes from eldritch ones to anime-like blinking, I actually laugh out loud because even though this game IS a mix of horror and cutesy stuff, that caught me off guard lmao
If I was the kind of pen and paper RPG player who actually had a lot of playtime clocked, I'd literally make a "Demons summoned" wall counter and increase it by one every session.
And then a smaller plaque underneath saying "Still no chronic illnesses, Lucifer really needs to hire better help, these demons don't take their job seriously at all!"
Them vomiting meat broth made me realize they're all herbivores being fed meat.
I really, really love the design of Leshy's boss fight form. The way the designers used layering to create a very smoothly animated three-dimensional effect without compromising the two-dimensional, sort of illustrated style of the artwork is something I imagine took many hours of fine tuning, and it was absolutely worth it. I don't usually get into these sorts of roguelikes but I'm honestly so excited for this one for the great design work they've done alone, and that's not even getting into how interesting the gameplay loop looks to be from what I've seen.
I hope you continue this series until the official release, Can't wait to try this myself on its official release. I enjoy Rogue-lite and now with base management

My high school teacher Beverly Weber was also a religious fanatic who believed that Harry Potter was just evil witchcraft so she never allowed us to read it in her classroom If you just talked about magic in front of her she would send you to detention
I was thinking the exact thing where, by end game, you're gonna be so powerful that The One Who waits will see you as a threat and be the final boss!
I know the annoyance of having to deal with Christian adults that were ignorant and closed minded about early 2000's kids media, like there were a good few times they tried to make my parents feel ashamed for letting watch and play games regarding things like Pokemon and power rangers, there was even one time when I was like 7-8 while in a kids group thing we're they gave us some free time and I decided to try drawing some Pokemon and an adult noticed then scolded me and forced me to crumble up my drawings and throw them away. It was because of incidents like those that only a few years later I just stopped going to church with my family all together.

I remember my aunt thought damn near everything that had to do with magic or the supernatural was satanic and devil worshipping. Yugioh, Pokemon, Halloween, Dragon Ball Z, etc. Meanwhile the bible is full of people with supernatural gifts and powers like Samsons super strength and Noah living to be over 900 yrs old, and visions of burning bushes.
The game potential modularity gives me high hopes. This will be awesome.
I'm loving how this game looks and plays so far, though I could see the 2.5D a little jarring if you're not used to it.
And 100% Wander, schools went from teaching people for the future and being able to apply stuff to life, to "we just need compliant and ignorant wageworkers to just listen and do their jobs" despite jobs requiring higher and more education these days.
Then there's the religious and private schools, but that's a whole other can of worms.

The 3D effects on Boss-Leshy are very cool. Looking forward to this even more now. Always love it when there is something grandiose-looking in these kinds of games. The mix of the 2D and 3D elements here are perfect. This game would have looked sick on the 3DS as well. I loved that Handheld, I keep hoping it gets done again with newer tech. I guess we have cheap and accessible VR now though, so maybe there is no market for a 3D screen. imagine having a 3D monitor though that worked like the 3DS did, that would be amazing IMO.
I mean, even if the deity(?) you're worshipping is super sketch (and to all appearances, it is)... by virtue of having not murdered you and even bringing you back to life, from the lamb's perspective it is still a better choice for worship than any of the other deities

i remember timed quick math tests i always finished those / got the furthest or close but i always hated being rushed lol
besides one time i vividly remember the teacher introduced a new concept on the test without teaching us about it for clarification she did that with ever timed test introduce something we didnt know to make us fail then teach us it
it might have been something like multiplication with negative numbers or division with negative numbers or something
for reference we were told said concept wasnt possibly prior so to ignore it if it came up
i thought it was trick quiz so i skipped it and messed that one up lol
also brings a memory of learning full multiplication and division a grade before they even taught simple times tables ie stuff a couple grades later cause of extenuating circumstances
wander saying about using to be good at math in education and loving it hit me hard cause i was the same before different extenuating circumstances

I'd have gone for the Fasting here. It would let you build up tons of resources for food using the Berry Farm, then eventually grab the one that lets them subsist on Grass without getting sick. That way, you can leave them for several days at a time on crusade to just get a ton of grass and other resources.
I once said something to a friend about school and she said that if she could go back in time to be a senior in high school she would make it her yearbook quote, "School doesn't teach you to read, it teaches you how to hate society."

I agree with the school point. If I picked up this game I’d definitely name the cult something school-like
I hated those math tests, I've always been a slow writer so it messed up my math grades for years even though I'd get some of the highest scores in the class on EVERY OTHER TEST AND ASSIGNMENT!

The story about the teacher being furies at you for continuing. I had the exact same experience with math from grade 1-3. Teachers always hated that I just wanted to do the harder math problems and that I loved maths.
For me it was from 6 to 10 grade
Around end of 8th grade or beginning of 9th grade i also then lost any interest in it and ended up having a 5 in it even thought i was still the one Teaching half the class in between sessions how it works since with my teacher it was less he did not want us to continue but he straight up wantet us to use his exact formula even after i pointed out flaws with it (specificaly in between class as to not embarass him)
he double checked the Result and saw that yep it does not add up (as in Doing it in reverse and seeing if you get back to the Original equation and he did not)
checked the Solutions that came with the book (For teachers) and saw that they were different
so he decided that The books are wrong and we should still just do it in his way and everything else is wrong
That’s dumb. The point of teachers is for teaching information. Why should they be at someone who actively accepts such things and moves to acquire more?

those terrible teachers are the worst specially when a kid has hungers for more than they can offer, is detrimental to an individual potential if a teaching figure just makes you follow rules instead of cultivating what pushes you further
I had open parents, my school? Not so much, everything was banned revolving Harry Potter, Dnd, Pokemon, digimon... On and on, it was ridiculous

My ma used to think pokemon and Halloween were satanic. Yet she never complained about digimon and danny phantom. She also thought Yu-Gi-Oh was satanic too which I can understand a bit better honestly. I never really agreed, but still.
Thankfully she's grown a bit more open-minded at least over the years.

Same here. I've had a jehovah witness or two tell me I'm a demon and are 'corrupting' her brother's mind just because I'm an athiest, and do not believe in a man-made god. Amongst other batshit crazy stuff I've had the misfortune to hear as well along the way. So I basically just thought 'She thinks I'm a monster? Oh well'. And cut those people out of my life. And just found a different way to spend time with my lovely fiancée' anyhow away from them. Been pretty peaceful.
Can't believe I wasted time/energy I won't get back.

Oh man, I'm digging the play through but that School story is triggering me so hard. I lived through that same kind of stuff too, now that I'm almost 40 I've had a lot of years of retrospect and can say for sure that 100% yes the US public school system was designed as a means to indoctrinate people into doing monotonous tasks for 6+ hours a day every day, to sit stand and lunch break all at the sound of bells, and to not ever talk back or disagree with supervisors. AKA make more factory workers.
I'm also super pissed off that Civics class was effectively removed from high schools, so the in detail concepts of how laws are made and why and how and why voting systems work and how to hold your representatives accountable .. were all removed shortly after the Vietnam War protests, almost certainly in response to the younger generations being so vehement against the political system shoving them into that shitshow.

one time in school two teacher aids locked me and them in a room for like 2 hours to try and force me to sign a contract they drew up them selves saying something that had to do with me completing all my school work i guess to try and trick my child mind i sat there just refusing to cuz at the time i had no trust or respect for other people glad iv never been one to bend when others try force me to do stuff

Heh, what you did wrong was disobey authority. You made a judgement of your own. School, at some point, became not a place of learning but a place to reinforce authority. This is why I think the American school system has suffered. So focused on keeping people respecting the chain of command they stopped caring about helping people develop.

...I take offense to you trashing school as a whole, most teachers and school staff 100% want you to learn, and teach you how to learn. they work their ass off for shit pay and tons of stress but they Do care, I worked IT support for a public school district for 6 years and so many of them are frustrated because they are trying to teach kids that more and more just don't care, the district keeps misallocating funds to sports bullshit and too many administrators instead of teachers pay, support staff and modernization of teaching equipment like computers, software that works on something besides Win XP and fixing he school building itself.
You're taking this too personally my dude. I had bad experiences, and relayed them, but at no point did I decry school as a whole as a bad thing.
School had its ups and downs, but boy some of those downs were egregious enough that someone really should have done something about it, rather than putting the onus on literal children to just deal with it.
Which is what you're effectively justifying.
The school system is not the teachers themselves and it doesnt care about their wellbeing or even tries to give them the tools necesary to do their job;
Thats one of the main reasons good teachers abandon their careers and find a better job.
The system is trash and rewards trash teachers.

Honestly, I feel like until he knows how the difficulty scales when selecting a harder option, this is a nice way of keeping the videos casual and being able to learn the mechanics without having to stress too much about combat and other things that the difficulty slider might impact. To each their own!
