VisitGuernsey: Welcome To Guernsey

  • Nestling snugly in the bay of St Malo and 70 miles from mainland Britain, the Channel Island of Guernsey is a heady mix of French and British cultures. This collision of lifestyles has created a unique environment, where familiarity is tempered by the unexpected, but where you'll always feel welcome. It's a very special place, one that leaves a lasting impression on all who visit.
Here you'll discover a community that looks to the future for inspiration, but where traditional values still hold sway; where the influence of the Continent is keenly felt, but not to the extent that it dents an unwavering loyalty to the British Crown; and where the dynamism of the global finance industry sits easily alongside centuries old traditions.
Of course for many people, it's the scenery that makes Guernsey so special. And it's easy to see why. Our cliffs, coves and commons provide a real treat for walkers and the abundance and variety of our floral heritage will inspire you. Plus there are the sister islands of Herm, Sark and Alderney to explore.

Where there could only be the sea, lies this wonderful place, a haven of flowers on the sea, as my fellow countryman Victor Hugo put it as early as 1855!

Guernsey is a beautiful little island with a rich history. I came all the way from Nassau, Bahamas to visit a friend who lives there and I had a great time. I hope to come back someday and see more of it. I stayed in St. Peter Port.

I'm curious if Guernsey is awash with tourists, or is there a more laid back portion/island that offers a more "homey" feel? I want to visit, but being from Boston/USA, there are MANY areas that are overly touristy here, so I'm looking to immerse myself with locals & culture in a slower, friendlier way. I appreciate any feedback/suggestions.

I used to live in Guernsey and I must say that what I love about the island is that it is very user friendly for its inhabitants: systems work, it's easy to get things done, and officials are generally on your side. Great place!

You've got to be joking! Start by reading the Wales Audit Office report that declared Guernsey's Government unfit for purpose on all counts. I grew up in Guernsey and hated it. I still hate it.

I would like to see Guernsey Tourism advertise more that Guernsey is the best place to ALL of the Channel Islands. If you spent a week in Jersey you wouldn't be able to see every Channel Island. But from Guernsey you can take day trips to Jersey, Sark, Herm, and even Alderney. Jersey's always blabbing on that they're warmer (allegedly) why do we not highlight our better position for a real Channel Island holiday and advertise it aggressively like Jersey does?

Leave those Jersey crapauds where they belong with all there noise , and live a calm and peacefull donkey life for another 100 years , :-) i've been some years living and working on the island and OMG I LOVE the place ! got some family still there living my dream on the coastside in a nice and lovely cottage , Gunersey must be one of the most beautiful and best creations of God ..

Did 2 years working in Guernsey in 1979 working in the hotels as a 16 yr old loved every minute of it 😃😃😃 40 years ago now met some great people (locals) sadly never been back due to other interests and work. I worked mainly at the captain cook hotel but also at the Pandora. They were just building the Marton up the road when I was there. But it's sad to here poor reviews on the cook and Marton as it was well run the (cook) back then shame. Would love to know where all the people I worked with are now 40 yrs on. But thanks for the video its brought back very happy memories 👍👍👍

A couple of weeks ago, I came across a job posting online for Guernsey. I honestly have never heard of this place in my entire life but for some reason, I felt compelled to look it up. The first photo I saw on google gave me a weird sort of feeling, like I was meant to be here. But being someone from the Middle East, I'm afraid to pursue this inexplicable pull because I fear that the people from this island might not be friendly to non-Caucasians.

Visited Jersey a few years ago and loved it. Not happy about it's tax haven status as I have no time for the rich who protect their wealth by hiding it and do not pay taxes in the UK. As a visitor anywhere I go I can't change the systems and there are places I want to see, have and will . I'm looking forward to Guernsey although I can't find much on You Tube about it or much info from their tourist board. I can find more on line about Albania than Guernsey !!! My trip is a short one and includes Herm and Sark. it will be a bit of a mystery as there is so little information. The tourist board really needs to get their act together. Jersey info was excellent.

    • @aspiretoact9018
      @aspiretoact9018 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Lizzie W so I fully understand your concerns about our Tax, however I would put the following argument forward. Guernsey is neither a part of the UK or the EU. We have a very stable economy with little to no problems when it comes to social and economic issues. As a self governing Island, shouldn’t it be our choice how we spend, use and distribute finance? We don’t pay tax on Guernsey because we don’t need to. And it works for us. Also it should be remembered that the benefits one would receive as a resident of somewhere like the UK or EU are not available to local islanders, so it’s not as if we are trying to leach off the tax payer without contributing ourselves.

You can if you want to. I don't care either way. I barely knew him, he was just in the year below me at Sixth Form before he dropped out to pursue TH-cam. I just wanted to correct someone in the comments of a video about where I grew up. Also he obviously isn't American. He's got a British accent. You don't have to believe me, it's not that important.

Though Jersey is a remarkable place where there could be nothing except Water, it remains somewhat hectic...
Guernsey has it all, quietness, island feeling, beautiful maritime landscapes, very friendly people, and a very rich heritage.
the only fact that you can see other islands from the main island is something unique....
And well, what about lobsters,... Either in sandwich or as a "homard thermidor"
