  • What an Incredible day wading a small creek and catching bass after bass on the War Eagle Buzzbait. The weather is just barely beginning to change but the small creek can feel it first and they are starting to eat more aggressively.

That's the kind of Fall day I dream about. That day would be fun for me using ultra lite gear, 4 lb. line, and a 1/8 oz. buzz bait. Still impressed with you baitcasting accuracy. You've really made that left handed baitcasting reel your own. Nice! I usually let the fish hook itself on a buzzbait, with a little "wrist pop" after I feel the fish on the line. I personally RARELY use any kind of trailer on a buzzbait. I started fishing them 40 years ago before trailers were a thing. They've worked for me for 40 years without, so unless I really need to slow down, no trailer. ..Also, your knowledge of fish species and hybrids always impresses me. That's knowing your "job" pretty well my friend. What a GREAT day. I think you can catch a lot more fish wading than in a kayak. Thoroughly enjoyed it! That creek is epic! ...I can't wait for REAL Fall!

Now you're talking my kind of fishing. Nothing better than a fantastic buzz bait bite.
But I've learned a couple of things I'll pass along.
    1) iI tried flouricarbon with buzz baits, and it's no good. Too much stretch in the line, so it's hard to get a good hook set before they realize something is up and they bail.
    2) I always you a crawl or some sort of soft plastics trailer. It just gives it more appeal & I get more bites.
    3) give them a second, and then set the hook. Being to quick on a buzz bait will lose you fish for sure.
Dude, this is my kind of video. Great job man. I love buzz bait fishing.

Kentucky's can take over as well. Within the last few years our AGFC has allowed an extra 10 spotted bass to be harvested, which has confirmed our suspicion of increased Spotted activity in predominantly Smallmouth Bass waters. It's unfortunate, but we do our part to keep the invasive Spots at bay.

I have never one single time caught a fish with either a spinner or buzz bait when I had a trailer on them. And for many, many years, a spinner bait was my main bait and I would fish it all day long. I have tried trailer hooks and plastic trailers as well, and not once did I get one of them to attract a fish. Now I know that there are many who are going to tell me that they NEVER fish a spinner bait without a trailer on it. That's fine, it has just never worked for me.

John, the gopro showing your body twist before the topwater hit might have something to do with that "pre-recording" setting which allows you to have an earlier 5 or 10 seconds once you start recording. I don't remember what the setting was actually called, but I'm just throwing out an idea. I doubt I would turn off that nice setting for a few more blowups though.

Then why do they bite a giant piece of metal on a buzz bait or giant treble hooks hanging down from a jerk bait? I think people give fish brains too much credit lol.

I have a critique (please don’t hate me).
Why do you say, “EAT IT” and not, “hit it”?
“I got a hit” sounds much more natural than, “He tried to eat it”.
Also, forcing your big thumb into a tiny lil’ fish mouth feels awkward.
You’re a really good angler and I enjoy your content.

You look like someone that has been fishing with one since he was a kid an d his dad shown him how to use it. For someone to use it like an extension of his arm is incredible. Keep trying new lures and different styles of fishing. There is not just one way to fish with a lure or bait. Love you back in the streams, that's what got me hooked to your channel.
