Our Fisker Ocean First Drive!

- After being at the grand reveal of the Fisker Ocean at the LA Auto Show in 2021, we've been excitedly waiting to finally get behind the wheel of one. Fisker held a public tour, allowing people to hop in for short test drives, so we were thrilled to finally get the chance.
We definitely need more time behind the wheel to be able to give a full review but our short time with it was definitely informative. There are some very cool, unique features, but also a couple bugs and quirks that they need to work out.
Liv has a reservation for the Fisker Pear so we're extra excited to see them perfect their offering.

I have an Ocean One that I got at the end of October. The ride is amazing, love the huge opening for the roof as it doesn't blow you away while driving. Bugs with software that will be fixed, but overall no regrets.
That's great to hear! Congrats! - Liv
Awesome video, Fisker Ocean looks really great 💯👍
I love my Fisker Ocean One... big sur blue, maliblu interior, and 22" slipstream wheels.
Gorgeous! I absolutely love that paint and finish! Congrats! - Liv
Absolutely LOVE the FIsker OCEAN.
This was one of the cars I considered before I settled on my 22 Premium 4X. The main things that kept me from pre-ordering were Fisker's reputation with the Karma (for better or worse), and that there was no place in my area where I could get it serviced if I needed it.
The Karma was built by another company so pretty much the only person in common was the CEO all the other Fisker inc employees are new. For servicing Fisker is going along the mobile technician route so a technician would come to your house.
Great Car. Love mine. #FiskerFam
Yay that's so awesome! Congrats! Which color do you have? I absolutely love that Big Sur Blue! - Liv
Great video. I am a big fan of the Fisker Ocean such a beautiful car.
thank you! I'm a fan of how it looks too! - Liv
I spotted one here in Chicago surprisingly! I wish I could have taken a picture but I was driving a passenger with Lyft
While I have zero plans on replacing my Mach-E any time soon; if for some reason I *HAD* to, the Fisker Ocean is very tempting. I seem to be a sucker for “first mainstream electric vehicle released by a company” *AND* “first vehicle at all released by a new car company”, so this seems right up my alley. :-D
And I miss the opening rear window on my ancient ‘90s Explorer. I do wish California Mode is the only way to open the rear side windows - I’d love to pop those open for my dog in the back even when other windows are closed.
Aw ya that totally makes sense. Be nice for your dawgie to poke their head out of the little window without risk of falling out and without making the whole vehicle a wind tunnel😆Perhaps that could be something that might come with an OTA. - Liv
Love my FOO!
Thanks, Liv and Patrick! We definitely wouldn't be using California Mode right now! ☔
Haha yeah a sunny California video released on a raaaaaaiiiny California day! Stay dry out there! - Liv
Thanks for this test. The Ocean is great, so much more confort for the driver & passagers than other EV. But it's not a Mustang. It looks more like a normal car (well Range Rover, not quite normal). And prices are the same, around 70K€ for the minimul config (big battery, best roof, confort feautres, not default color)
I agree with you, Liv: it makes NO sense to have to click through touchscreens to open a glovebox, move the vents, adjust the outside mirrors, etc. Gawd, I miss the buttons I used to have in my LEAF. Like Patrick, I like strong regen, but… does it have 1-pedal driving? The range is impressive! I like it better than I thought I would, but… I wouldn't opt for the solar roof, just glass, as that "pattern" shining inside would drive me nuts. My rooftop solar at home would more than suffice for free, clean, green charging. Yeah… one must pay TH-cam's blackmail fee to get rid of those damn ads. Tsk. What I need to know is whether the seats are comfortable enough for my wife. That's our biggest challenge identifying our next EV.
haha ya I have to agree with you Mark, I think the pattern might get to me too. It didn't bug me at the time but then when I was editing the video, it started to get a bit old so I'd be curious to hear how some people find it over time. I honestly do not recall the seats being remarkable in any direction. Neither good nor bad. They were not so comfortable that I noticed it...and not uncomfortable either. I'd be interested to hear how your wife finds them. Hopefully you get a local Ocean to sit in at least! - Liv
Mirrors I can understand, since in regular daily driving, you set them once, save it to your profile, and the car automatically sets it when you get in. But the glovebox? That’s ridiculous. And while it may *SEEM* like “move the vents” should be, like mirrors, something you set once per profile; but not for the passenger! And I like the air in different places hot vs. cool.
Absolutely agree on the solar. Unless you have a VERY short commute, live where it is always sunny, and park at all times in the sun, (and yet the vehicle doesn’t get too hot and need to waste energy keeping the interior cool, like Phoenix,) it really isn’t a practical improvement. My rooftop solar does the job for “fueling” my EVs with solar power. But I suppose if you’re a city-dweller who lives in a tight urban area with nowhere to charge at home, it might work to keep your vehicle topped off.
I thought the roof would bother me too but I don’t even notice it. It’s an incredible car: comfortable, quiet, powerful, and 360 miles of range (really)
Doggy rear window is one of a kind no one offers it!
I love the solar panel, I wonder if the screen will tell you how much you are charging.
I think that is a feature planned as a future OTA software release.
FSR .. Fisker. The Electrified Tour adding thousands of Test Drives to potential buyers in 11 states in Feb / March. Should help sell the remaining 4,000 produced Oceans. Thumbs Up video/ comments. Thanks.
Thanks for the video. This EV is worth considering if they can make them and getting them serviced is not difficult. The rotating screen is interesting, but I like to do planning in vertical orientation since I usually do heading up. I also prefer manual vent controls. One reason I did not consider Tesla is most of the functions are through the center console.
The AC inverter is pretty hefty at 1600 Watts. The one in my Ford Fusion Hybrid was only 150 watts, but I still found it handy. It will be interesting to see how well the car will work doing camping.
Excellent job on this video….
Nice review!
thanks freddie! - Liv
I would prefer a HUD in this car. A HUD would be idea for t he Mach E as well
I would so love a HUD on the Mach-E! They've really grown on me over time! - Liv
Thanks for the review! How was your experience with the sunlight passing through the solar roof? (Both as a driver and a passenger)
Honestly we didn't really notice it. I think it could bug me with time but it wasn't a huge deal. - Liv
How would you compare the ride to the Mach-E? (understanding that the driving portion of your time in the Ocean - hehe - was quite limited)
We definitely need more time but it felt pretty smooth and well-balanced. The turning radius was great. It felt like you were sitting really high, but it didn't feel too top heavy. It doesn't feel like a sporty drive at all though. Quite different to the GTPE. Not as bouncy as the Premium - Liv
Fisker
I have had my FOO since the beginning of October. I have hoped for the best, but the vehicle wasn't ready for release and the customer service is horrible. Check to see how many techs they have where you live prior to purchase. The software is so buggy that most of the ADAS features (just the safety ones) do not work most days. Also, the solar roof doesn't actually add any charging capability. "Future updates" like every other error I have.
Ah that sucks :/ Hope it improves for you! - Liv
Reviewers, please, please read up on the Henricks vision statement before comments like "the fabric is not premium feeling." You are showing your ignorance.
By design, responsibly sourced, the interior uses 100lbs of reclaimed plastic from.....the Ocean. Seats are alcantara.
If having ornate-Ottoman Empire, leather and multi-tone stitching, shiny knobs and lots of metal touch points, is important to you, look elsewhere.
Else, decent review.
Things can be “good” things, and still “not feel premium”. My Mach-E and my Rivian both have sustainably-sourced non-leather materials in their seating, and both _feel_ more premium than the Ocean.
@@AnonymousFreakYT so what you are saying is is that it's subjective. My brother has a MME GT. Seats are 'pleathery' feeling.
@@sdpupsdad Indeed yes. Very subjective. Ironically, I think the Mach-E GT’s seats are worse than the lower-spec. (I have a Select, my sister-in-law has a GT.)
Hey SD! Are you in San Diego too? 😃
We're big fans of responsibly-sourced, sustainable, recycled materials. Always loved the Ocean vision and that was a big plus we gave it when we covered it at the reveal 2 years ago. I don't think that saying it doesn't feel premium is a bad thing and I also don't think that saying something is responsibly-sourced or recycled should automatically equate with expecting it to not feel premium.
We've had some great experiences with a variety of recycled or sustainable materials with various manufacturers and some have felt wonderfully premium. Like most recently for us we checked out the Volvo EX30 materials and went in-depth with Polestar's recycled materials at Polestar Day and we were really impressed. I personally don't want to promote the assumption that recycled equates with non-premium. I think that might hinder the goal of widespread acceptance of recycled materials.
The Fisker Ocean is an awesome EV in many ways and I love the recycled materials AND some of the interior materials didn't feel super premium. It's still a sweet ride! - Liv
@@MachE_VLOG live there for 12 years before moving to the DC area. Yes, SDpups was part of the San Diego life.
Please share what would meet the requirements of 'more premium feeling'
Also, can't believe how dismissive you were of the the openness of the Sky Roof and California Mode...my doggos love the openness of ALL the roll down windows. Saying, in a very sarcastic tone, "I don't know we'll really use that." Is like rolling through the Gaslamp District and saying, "nice, but I don't know if I'll every hang out there.".
I really like this but hear it feels cheap inside.
Of course, it's a great car for the money probably at this moment. I don't know if it would be the same when the Juniper Model Y launches. Without the Tesla SCN compatibility, I will pass. Yes, I just sold my house and I am moving into an apartment. So, no more home charging. Plus, rumors of $FSR going bankruptcy made me to stay away from it.
Isn't fisker going bankrupt? I saw two not just one at last cars and coffee!! LIKE WOW!! but I guess there could be more FUD out there about any new car company!
You could say all new EV companies are close to bankruptcy. At one point, Tesla was just days from bankruptcy a few years ago. Fisker has a lot of challenges and they aren't selling as many as they hoped, but the overall car market is really struggling right now.
@@MachE_VLOG I could see that it's the first of a new year too, only time will tell 😉
I think the biggest issue is not so much selling as it is delivering the vehicles. If they have finally solved their supply chain issues and if they have finally figured out their delivery issues then 2024 could be an interesting one for Fisker. @@MachE_VLOG
Having to control the vents through a laggy touchscreen sucks. That is a terrible design choice
should probably do more homework before making a video. No glove box, but there is a storage area under each front seat.
Heya, it's in the video. Ana mentioned that there is no glove box but there is storage under the seat. - Liv
Wow, even my old samsung galaxy note 3 is smoother than this screen ....
One year ago stock price was around $6.5, but today is around $0.056😅😅😅
