The problem with forcing players to run away in this sort of game is twofold:
    1. Balance. Difficulty settings can only do so much. You always run the risk of killing the player before they can escape or having the threat be so low they have no reason to run unless you require it with scripting of some kind.
    2. Expectation mismatch. If the player expects to triumph over every foe (like they do everywhere else in the game), the idea of running away might never occur to them.
Combign the two problems together and you easily can end up with either a bored player annoyed they have to run away from an easy encounter or a frustrated player who can't figure out how to win an unwinnable encounter.
This encounter seems like an attempt at a compromise. They used enemy durability, respawns, the map, and the theming to encourage you to run away while still allowing stronger parties to simply overcome it.

The Genestealers are part of the main campaign, I ran into this event... I had some flashbacks to the Space Hulk game from the 90's, a much easier fight though, Space Hulk was difficult!

Speaking of Space Hulk, space marines in terminator armor have trouble killing genestealers. My guess as to why you fight them 1 at a time would be to rationalize how a small group of regular humans (and mutant plus xeno) could defeat them at all. I'm not a lore expert though.

@@IridiumSnake I suppose I have a bit of a skewed perspective on them, since I think my primary exposure to them on the tabletop was in Necromunda.
There were optional rules for Genestealer Cults, and I used to clash with them from time to time with my old Delaque gang. So the idea of normal humans taking down Genestealers doesn't feel all that odd. :)

Not sure any of the Rogue trader retinue members really count as regular human. From what I remember from pen and paper, average humans have stats of 10, while player characters start at 30, so basically already superhuman...

Astartes kill them with ease. The issue is the armor piercing claws that make Terminator armor as useful as no armor at all. Genestealers are glass canons, who make everyone else glass cannons. And mind you, here it's tougher then chaos Astartes in chapter 1.

I don't remember a quest popping after the gene stealer ship. Maybe it's modified by the dlc. Also 10th edition gene stealers are pretty tough. Move 8, Toughness 4, Armor Save 5+, Invulnerability Save 5+, 2 Wounds, 4 Attacks, Weapon Skill 2+, Strength 4, Armor Piercing -2. Rerolls 1 to hit, rerolls wound rolls of 1 near an objective. They do come in squads of 10 though.

Yeah, from what I've gathered the rumor event and Wasteland Wayfarer location are in the base campaign, but the actual quest attached to it is a new addition that links into the one in the DLC. :)

I feel like the genestealer(and the vox guy then?) combat was added by DLC. I've heard that this event was described as purely atmospheric before.

In poking around I found some discussions from launch involving the location. The location, including the cleric and combat, were apparently a surprise addition at launch - but the quest aspect and dialogue references to the "Three Phalanges" are new, and seem to link into the DLC. :)

to answer the question do the people of the Imperium know of the gene Steelers .no is the answer their information is suppressed by the Inquisition most look at them as mutants. but the Imperial Guard can detect if someone's infected by them if they have the right equipment at that time and so can Space Marines and the Inquisition . I promise this is the tldr version

Knowledge of genestealers would very much be proscribed to the average person. I don’t think hieyromiums is a genestealer cultist, his sermons have always been consistent and depressing “there is no peace” sort of thing. The nourishers on the hand immediately started talking about finding peace upon being infected.
Cassia picked up on the genestealer patriarch’s connection with purple, there really wasn’t a notice of those foreign mental influences in them.

I mean, I'll give it a peek to see if it grabs me, but I will say that RTS and F2P don't exactly inspire confidence. :)
