  • Kirra Reef would have to be one of the best shore dives in the world.
We found that going out just on the turn from Low Tide to High Tide made for the easiest way to be able to swim out past the breaking waves, which was about 100m.
We then swam North East and aligned the rocks at the north end of the Kirra Surf Life Saving Club to Kirra Point. Around that location we could see a gradual drop of the sand and about another 50-80m swim north we found the edge of the reef. All in all it was about a 350-400m swim.
Once you are there the free diving is quite easy with the deepest areas being around 8m, and many parts of the reef are only 3-4m from the surface.
There is a bounty of bait fish, and you will see turtles, all manner of rays, toad fish, tropical reef fish, and during the whale migration you will hear them calling out to each other when you are under the water.
The swim back to shore we found easier to do with the incoming tide, which was so much easier than swimming back in on an outgoing tide.
If you have any questions about the dive please feel free to leave your comments below.
Shot on GoPro Hero 11 and editted in CapCut.
A Telesin dive case was used for this dive.

Amazing footage. Did you do much post editing? What settings did you use on your GoPro?

Very Nice video 😊 well done.
I’ve done a couple of visits to the reef the biodiversity amazes me , it’s a challenging swim though if the conditions are not ideal 👌🏽

Awesome colors underwater. Are you shooting raw and editing in post or getting these colors right out of the gopro?

I shoot in Natural colour profile with medium sharpness on the GoPro 11.
Colours are achieved by running Labs firmware which allows you to lock auto white balance. This gets the colours pretty close, and then with a little bit of tweaking in post production you can get these colours.
Labs also allows me to increase bit rate from 120Mbs to 200Mbs which gives finer details in high frame rate videos like 5.3K 60FPS & 4K 120FPS.

@@LazyAnglerFL If you have the GoPro subscription you will have access to their colour correction filters. You can see how well they work in this video I put together

@AdamBoltGoldCoast I have Dive+ app and use it occasionally. I'll check out the filters as well because I do have the subscription
