Thanks for the video. I also watched the 72/73 Can-Am at Laguna. On the original course I forgot Donahue's pole time in the high 0:50s. I clocked Donahue in the 917/30 at 1:01 every damn lap regardless of traffic. You could set your watch by him. Amazing demonstration of skill and speed.
@@TheShadowphax At the beginning, I thought it was a parade lap, then these insane brutes come by again at almost idle again, lol. I get it - priceless icons from days past - but at least a shot of the back straight, instead of one of the trickiest 'turns' in motorsports, tip-toeing. About 25 years ago up at mighty Road America the vintage guys were flying - loud ass Lola's, Chaparral's, mixed in with some loud ass Corvettes, Mustangs, Camaro's, the occasional Javelin...besides the small displacement European cars in a different race, they were getting it good, and it didn't seem like it mattered if you wrecked. I think one of the Lola's with a Judd mill hit a over 200 on the giant back sweeper, showing off in qualifying. Good times!
