- Fighting a world war doesn't come cheap, however Nazi Germany managed to pull this off whilst their country's economy was in pieces. How exactly then did Hitler find the money to wage war on this kind of scale?

G.W.B! War criminal extraordinaire.
If you can lift those boxes, they aren't full of gold.
Correct. A single standard gold bar weighs approximately 70lbs.
She said the smaller ones were the heavy ones
Very rough rule of thumb
Gold is more than 1/3rd heavier than lead by mass.
@@KLFaber 400 ounces Troy.
The way the narrator says gold just cracks me up. Gooollld!
Germany stole the gold, then the allies stole the gold
Wouldn't even start to pay for reparations or loss of lives
Then it was sold to Pawn Stars and they had to frame it. And that costs money!
And the USA gained. In fact the USA received a ship hold of gold before France fell and the US didn't just protect it, they kept it all. It's why economies are no longer based on gold.
Us English stole everyone’s gold. Which I can only apologise for
Has anyone thought that the heavy boxes might contain the plates used the make the counterfeit notes?
good call
They would be replaced within a year.
They started a company that was backed by all the biggest companies in Germany and they had that company print company bank notes and paid industry with them as loans.
Very smart.
Do you mean the Mefo bills they used to pay the rearmament factories?
U talking about MEFO?
this isn't how it was "funded" though. this was just a domestic wartime monetary policy. it was funded from abroad..

This docu failed to live up to my expectations in so many ways. The narrator is way over the top given the actual content. Heavy boxes are gonna be the printing plates for the forgeries
You know it all, Sherlock.
This was extremely interesting. One of those stories related to WW2 by definition, but not the classic bomb and gun stories.
Goering was the art plunderer.
Provided urban play area in Plymouth ,(blitzkrieg bombsites)made him a likeable warcrimimal with the youth
All of Europe was
but he was COLLECTING.Not selling.
And the few millions he made with what he sold, did not go into state coffers.
But into his private bank account. To pay for his opulent lifestyle.
To help finance Hitlers war machine?
There the big companies, German and international, that is also American, did their part.
He also committed awful crimes against fashion😂
"We'll all be rich! As rich as Nazis!"
C. Montgomery Burns. This might help to explain how Mr Burns got so wealthy with a fabulous head start from his Army Days during WWII!
Na he was well past retirement age by WW2.
Doubt it myself.
Just don’t think anyone would panic tip gold into a lake without careful marking of location and means to reclaim the loot.
Nice wishful thinking, though.
there's only about ten minutes of genuine material in this strung out offering!
The printing press...
I always have wondered this to myself. Thanks for the video to explain
My deal with the whole lake thing is simply why? It seems so impractical. Especially at that time, how did they ever expect to recover it? Also Many of the major companies gave him what amounted to hundreds of millions to do with as he pleased partially because they were so enthralled with him and probably more so bc he made it worth their while in other ways. I’m not saying that funded the war or anything it’s just crazy they gave him basically an unlimited credit line. So Switzerland was basically the worlds biggest money launderer?
Is,is!

who would have thought it
They still are.
I want that bank note so bad in my collection 😢
I have some old German banknotes with a face value of Five Million Marks - all worthless paper, of course.
Neat documentary!😊
They shd have melted the gold bars down and given every WWII and the Families of fallen vets a Gold Medal 🥇 for saving the world 🌍
What do you think they'd make of the world they fought for today?
I can’t speak for other people.
However in my own humble opinion I believe they would wonder why they fought that war. And that there nothing short of saving the world 🌎 is not understood by the present generation.
Just the disrespect alone.
Thats the best I can respond without being a crazy no holds barred Italian 😂
the idea that Germany could havr taken over the world is so dumb

This was a good one!
This is a question i have wondered about for a long time !
Google Mefo bills, a simple article will tell you more than this entire video.
The premise that gold stolen from countries that were invaded to build weapons to invade countries is just idiotic.
The German rearmament happened (and was financed) BEFORE they started invading everybody. The same is true of Gold stolen from the Jews, that didn't happen until they started rounding up the Jews.
And all this talk about the gold hidden at the END of the war wasn't used for rearmament either!
Me too (the financing of Germany before and during the war). But this is not the answer. The stolen 36 billion dollars of Gold would not cover the budget of a modern cut down army like the UK for a year, let alone 5. One day perhaps I will find something that attempts to answer the questions seriously.
Thank you ..very interesting story.
When you own the printing press where do you think AH got his coun 😂
Wonderful just how much was taken

Hold on.. no mention of Greek or Yugoslavian gold..

48:50 - Goldfinger... ha, ha, ha! I love this story.
My great grandfather was a 49er. And in 1849 is was tough traveling to California from back East.
Think the gold would be shared with the soldiers who found it?. The smart ones would just bail out and buy freedom
So many flat earthers in these comments…guaranteed.
Yip. The surface of water is always level. The wet ball is covered 70% by water??? Must be flat
Wouldn't the heaviest boxes most likely have contained the heavy printing plates for the forgeries? They even state earlier that many plates were created and engraved for them to produce all the forged notes. 🤨🤔
How? Based on the lack of rations, ammunition , and oil- *pretty damn poorly!* That's how!
I’m sorry, what now? Did he just say that the people who figured out how to burn millions of people couldn’t figure out how to burn millions of pound notes? He literally said “burning millions of pounds wasn’t easy” about the NAZIS!!!! Who tf is writing this script?!
stop believing fairy tales.
Because they were under extreme time pressure. The allies armies were quickly closing in
The video is presenting a stark contrast to reality; Germany built their economy on work and production. Gold had nothing to do with it.
@@seanprice7645 what fairytale?
@@alexandermelbaus2351 wow, you somehow missed the entire point of this video. Its an hour long, and you couldn't figure it out?! Its about their economy from 1942-1945. The narrator goes over the whole damn story. I can't imagine how frustrating normal life must get for you.
The Danish government started shipping the gold reserves to the US in December 1939, so when they occupied the country on April 9th, there was no gold to be found 😆
The Norweigians kindly helped the Danes with the transport. Alas, they didn't send their own with it 😭

I've never held gold bars like that but I have held large bars of tungsten which is the same weight per volume. That was faked.
Easy to condemn the Swiss for trading with the evil regime in Germany, but at the end of the war the Allies were not averse to some shady dealings themselves ~
Tom Bower's books, "Blind Eye to Murder" [post-war cover-up of widespread, generalised atrocities in Europe, done mostly by Nazis]
and another, "Paperclip Conspiracy", examined selection of those guilty of war crimes but not prosecuted, being deemed useful to the USA.
Thought it would have been affiliate marketing!
Sounds like the USA print, print, print.
@10:34 hold a box that size full of gold 🤣I call BS
"When they brought the box to the surface, no one was sure what was inside" - duhhh, open it.
You have no idea how that worked: It wasn't gold, it was the MEFO bills. There is not enough gold to fund such a huge project.

If it was gold she would be in that lake floating dead
The heavy boxes contained valuable lead bars. Mystery solved!
They had re-breathers during WW2. If it were treasure it could be long gone.
Prescott Bush, IG Farben and Switzerland, I've heard.
Let me tell you from experience that paper is extremely heavy! Far heavier than one would ever expect.
This is very true. A client made me count out by hand 10 grand in twenties for her. Well, she couldn't even hold it, It was crazy heavy.
I don't need to watch this video to know how AH funded his 3rd Reich... but I'll watch it anyway.

And the GI buried lots of that gold for themselves
Okay all this gold was plundered just before and during the war after he had re-militarized-rebuilt the country, question where did he get the money for that (direct foreign investment knowingly paid for his war machine).
Goering was also guilty of the most awful crimes against fashion.
He took the local business men into his office under gun point and told him your companies are now ours ...
It was easily done because they had monopolies...
Which were outlawed in America after 1946....
But, over the years our government has turned back that bill and now companies are all monopolized.

you can't convince me that it's easier to ship boxes of paper to a lake in the south, cart it buy horse and sink it than to burn them on a huge bonfire. no way.
At the beginning you said there was no way down to the lake then we get told the nazis used it for testing weapons??? So there was a way to the lake

These notes are not counterfeit, but rather copies. The Jews worked out the sequencing of the serial numbers used by the Royal mint, so these are a copy, duplicate of the original. So here are two(2) notes with the same serial number.
Also fun fact. The 1948 war of independence waged by the fledgling state of Israel was in part finance with this 'copy' script. The English should not have betrayed Israel.😉

There is no "Pope of Rome."

Wait you said stolen gold was taken to Switzerland to use to buy foreign currency. When you say it was hidden ,buried in Germany and Austria. Which is it?
I wonder how many GI's helped themselves to some of the loot🤫
So was the gold returned to the various countries
Genius move... take double the necessary containers... dig and bury some with the gold inside close by where some dont see... then let everyone see you throwing cases into the lake... its obvious you just threw all the gold in the lake right?
Germany steals gold to get foreign currency I understand that part but with that foreign currency who were they buying supplies from they were cut off from the international market so what was the foreign currency actually used for for example the British had used gold to buy supplies from the US
Yes essentially it is worthless like the plundered works of art.
They were not cut from the start and definitely not from everyone. Up until mid-1941 they still had most of the world to trade with. And even after the inclusion of USA into the war, there were still countries that were neutral that Germany could trade with and use foreign currency as a more stable/secure option.
The currency would help with espionage operations in UK and it's allied countries
OK let’s jam in the story obviously if the public knew that the gold was there, the Americans knew about it before anybody else. Do you honestly think the American government will leave all that gold bottom of the lake I think not.
Is Fritz Thyssen not the logical subject of video titled like this?
36 Billion is nothing. The US pays 3.22% INTEREST on 34.5 trillion yearly.
