  • Austin motor Company catalogue about 1933 1 think looking at the range of cars. £500 for an Austin 20 £125 for an Austin 7 sounds cheap by todays prices but when you consider the average wage was £3 per week and a semi detached house costs £600 it puts it all into perspective.

    I was under the impression Austin only mass produced tiny cars...but they apparently also made big luxury cars!

    Fascinating. Though, I half expected Mr Cholmondley Warner and his friend Greyson to pop up :)

    I'm an American and doubt that I've ever seen an Austin "in the flesh" but I've totally fallen in love with this car because of your channel. Thanks!

      The Austin Seven was also made in the USA, in Butler Pa, but launched just in time for the recession to mean it was not a big success. The plant closed in 1934. The postwar Austin Healeys were exported to the USA but not in the same number as MGs, both made by the same company competing against themselves. You wonder why they went bankrupt.

      It would have been a tad difficult as that was the 1933 model catalogue. It would have been an earlier model.

    £105 for an Austin Seven!?! Outrageous!! Think I'll stick with my 8hp Morris Minor that only cost £100 brand new.

    • @luviskol
      @luviskol 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      £105 then = £7,708.53 now which is less than what you'd get a budget car for today

    Id love to know what was the expected useful life span of these car bodies and engines?

    • @jackflashvintagemotoring7586
      @jackflashvintagemotoring7586  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The average lifespan of a 1930s car was 7years however in the Austin film about bodywork and paint I heard 10years mentioned, engines needed a rebore every 30k miles mainly down to the oil quality,

    Why don't we get advertisements like this, today?
    Are they too slick?
