@massimiliano what are the chances that both players will press B more than 3/4 times in a row, giving that there are 5 options in total? It is a terrible mechanic
"Hey how about we put a luck based attack in a game, where only skill should matter? Oh and make it very hard to block and don't forget to give advantage to the one who starts the gambling attack."
Moving back always avoids K Moving forward always avoids A Moving sideways always avoids B All movement options only beat one offensive option, just like offensive options, but there's no chance of clashing. This adds more risk with the benefit of getting a free combo if they whif. Nothing in reversal edge is character specific except for the end result. Knowing what your opponent wants to get out of it will help decision making in reversal edge immensely.
Thomakaze Yeah cause I use Zas, and K casts a curse on block or hit, A could get a ring out with the BT B+K follow-up, and B activates any curses on the opponent.
The machanic has its ups and downs, but a personal favorite, is that it blocks from highs to lows automatically, so it's very helpful for players that can't react fast enough to having to switch between standing and crouching rapidly
Its bc the Person who started the RE gets priotrity After the First clash. Also: Kick beats B, pls remember that. Also Kick often leads to free critical edge.
The reversal edge mechanic when an attack is the same it clash and goes to round 2 if is the same again the one actived the reversal edge wins all the time so they cant keep going
This new mechanic suks, its not because it is bad is because newbies use this like all time this should cost a little of power bar to avoid people to use all time, like injustice2 .
If you have trouble against it try side stepping or using break attacks. They are usually the blue lightning and red flames attacks(unblockable). You'll get a lethal hit for some of them
@@Venus1Star For me I really like it, because when you know what are the most powerful options of the opponent's reversal edge the mindgame becomes much more interesting. But you can still side step it and use blue lightning attacks in case the opponent spams it
@@playmaker3116 I understand it I just hate it. I kicked a dude out my room for doing it too much, he then sent me a message saying that I was a bum and I don't understand the game, so I challenged him BUT. If I beat him, him spamming reversal edge, then the next match he couldn't use it... he agreed and I beat him both times. It isn't that I don't get it... just why in gods name would I want to be forced to limited moves? when we both have an arsenal of moves we can do without RevEdging? I wanna do combos and see combos not the screen being red and being able to pick from a handful of moves.
This is the most stupid thing anybody has ever included in a fighting game. It's like playing a casino game, it's purely random and has nothing to do with skill. I lost many because they always used this and I pressed the wrong buttons. Whoever came up with this idea should be fired
Hey Dwag, winning the second round of the clash in case of a tie is part of the RE rules. The tutorial states that in this case the initiator of the clash will win big time. So if you set up the dummy to start a clash, you will see, that the dummy wins in case of 2 identical consecutive attacks
After clashing attacks on the initial round of reversal edge (you can clash on any attack, not just B, both players just have to press the same button), it will enter a second round, and in this second round, if the players tie attacks again (and again, this is for any attack, not just B!) then the initiator of the reversal edge, i.e. the one who activated the RE input, will win. Simple as that. edit: Also, you got something incorrect. If the opponent back steps during RE, then a kick will whiff. As a quick breakdown of the dodges, forward step beats horizontal attacks, side step beats vertical attacks, and back step beats kicks.
A B and K all have an equal amount of counters and none are better than the others. It's about mind games and character knowlege. Every character has a best option that will combo. A is not bad, it just doesn't work when most players tend to just spam B since they don't understand the mechanic.
I should clarify, when I say they don't understand the mechanic I'm mostly referring to the fact they don't know there's a "best" option for each character
The player that initiates reversal edge always hits on second clash if the input is mirrored by the two fighters (ie both input A) or if the inputs respect the rock paper scissors ruleset.
So the thing is, B isn't always better than A. In fact, it could be statistically worse. Each of them beat 3 options the enemy has, and lose to 2 options. You pressing A means there's 1 chance of a tie, going to round 2, and 1 chance the RE ends with no winner. You pressing B means there's 2 chances it goes to round 2 instead, which generally makes things riskier. Check out this chart: i.imgur.com/l7813zY.jpg Note that on the 'Enemy Input' section, the left facing arrow refers to moving toward you, not backstepping
you win the trade @ 4:12 because of reversal edge design. The person who starts the reversal edge will win the 2nd attempt during the reversal edge; if the 1st attempt was a draw/trade. I learned this from one of the dev interviews, I'll link it when I can find it.
The thing is when you do Reversal Edge: ...B(vertical attack) wins A(Horizon attack) wins K(kick) wins B(horizon attack)... I don't know how to say it in English but it's just like a triangle relationship.
It tells you in the tutorial that if you reversal edge and reinitiate you'll win the second exchange everytime if you clash the second time assuming you initiated the reversal edge.
In short: B > G > GI > B B is the only move where G loses. Anything else is an even match if you bet on G, except GI where G actually wins. Since B is the only attack which can beat G it's not worth considering A, K, or any of the dodges. So most times, just guard. Mix up with B and guard impact. It really is a "rock paper scissor" minigame kind of thing.
Also also: Some Charakters (Like Gerald or Groh) get more dmg or combos on the „second round“ of RE. Even some chars get a leathal under certains while clashing. And also against Astaroth pls ALWAYS GO KICK OR SIDESTEP, his B will ledge you.
My 9 year old daughter....first time playing the game....randomly picked Astaroth. And with in 30 seconds discovered the RE button. And liked what it did. And it was a small stage..... Yeah....it wasnt my best match -_-
About the b clashes, as far as I know from playing the beta and watching tournaments; if both players use B, the player who started the trade will win on the second clash.
Okay i was in practice mode and it seems like u can only gi if the other person blocks everytime i try it after the initial clash it doesn't work it just makes my character block
This is totally and aside on the video, having nothing to do with anything, the real comment will be below. Through out the video there were a bunch of Soul Calibur 6 ads, I thought appropriate until I noticed each of them were ads for pre-ordering the game, then I thought I might have traveled back in time, but then I realized that's the allergy medicine talking. With that said. I don't really understand the thought process behind the inclusion of the reversal edges. Was it to add an element to the game so that someone can get back into the fight or combo break someone? It doesn't really work in that regard though. Can someone explain the theory behind a reversal edge and the tactics on how and why you would want to use it?
How to win? People seem to pick vertical strike alot during the reversal so i jist side step and punish. Then once they catch on and try to catch what they think is going to be you side stepping and you stomp their horizontal with your own vertical. Fun times.
I hate this mechanic since it could be spammed also a grab should be able to beat it when the enemy is charging it, people kept spamming me on ranked with it and it gets so annoying
Sidestepping usually gives you an easy full wiff punish. GBs work too obviously (usually slow though), but sidestepping will consistently own spammers.
I have a question about RE startup - what beats it? I mean, of course A+B universally beat it, but I saw people hitting my RE startup with multi-hitting strings also interrupted it. So, what are rules there? And what does holding RE give me?
Guard crush (lightning effect stuff) beats it. And there is some... 'wiggle' room between the 'instant parry' part of RE and the counter attack that initiates the RPS minigame. If you can delay an attack to hit that point, it usually goes through. That's probably what's hitting you in those combo strings. Holding RE only lets you prolong the 'instant parry' section of the ability.
I've had pretty good success using side step and kick online, since most people seem to be going for B attacks regardless whether they're the aggressor or the defender. B seems to be the best choice when you're the aggressor, since it beats everything but side step and kick, and wins ties. As the defender, using side step and kick has been a good call so far, since most people seem to just default to B unless they've established that you like to side step during reversal. B isn't such a good call for defenders since it looses to the aggressor in tie situations. It's still early days of the game and it's a brand new mechanic so everyone is still kinda just figuring it out, but for now most people seem to just go for B regardless, making them vulnerable for side step and kick.
Now I know how to use Reversal edge. Great job with the guide and maybe a character guide on how to use them like some of the more harder characters to use. Anyway good job.
I personally think it is, I own all of the games so my opinion is biased. But if you're looking for a good 3D fighter. In my opinion SC is the best around.
Mediocre to lame.... compared to what? What scope of reference are you speaking from? Both of the single player campaign modes are fun, in their own ways, Libra of Souls can be especially time consuming, and the story structure is satisfying, it's very nearly an RPG. Not many fighting games offer this amount of content, so I honestly have no idea what you mean. The game isn't perfect, but it's nowhere near the spectrum of either of those words.
depends what you want from the game, there is a lot of single player content to play, but it is not a very great presentation feels like the devs put as little effort into them as possible. But if you want a great 3d fighter and will mostly only play online it is worth getting and that is as unbiased as I can be.
I mean in that regard, that's pretty much where every fighting game out stands? They aren't supposed to be this huge sprawling Single Player experience. BUT, you do actually get that with the single player options in this. Now, name a fighting game with better single player. I'll wait.
Always B unless you think the opponent will sidestep or K. In which case K. I think sidestepping a B to try to do a combo is too risky. I'd just take the easier, lower damage of a K over a side step.
I'm not sure if this is character specific, but you can pull a critical edge if you hit the button almost immediately after a successful side step. You can do pretty good damage from side step, but I agree that it can be pretty risky at times.
If you both pick the same option twice in reversal edge the person who initiated will win every time. (Also on a different note the way to win reversal edge is to just sidestep the initiator and punish accordingly. Lol. I was playing a lot of ranked and see a lot of people trying to crutch with reversal edge. Good video tho.)
I still lose a gang of REs because of bad picks, but I've come to respect what it does. There are matchups where opponents will spam something that and I can't seem to get a move out faster. Obviously over time I understand whats faster, but RE is a nice deterrent for spam as it keeps them honest. Not to mention the amount of KO's I have gotten from Late-game RE when an opponent gets overzealous. Its got a bad rep because of what poor players can do with it, but if you are a bit more advanced, its a trump card to reset some unfavorable situations.
The in game tutorials explains all this lol. As for uploaders question on who wins a stalemate when both press B... The initiator of the clash will have the advantage in the second round, as they will win the event of another stalemate. Additionally, their attack will be treated as a lethal hit, and afford them the opportunity to unleash an extra powerful combo.
This is actually wrong, it goes... B beats A, K beats B and A beats K... side step up or down beats B and step in or out beats A but it's also very character dependent
Reversal edge is actually broken. Yeah it's punishable but if you hit me when I activate it I get meter. And I win I get a lot of meter and free damage. Which mean I can soul charge more which mean I can beat you down. That's this game. Some characters become godlike when soul charged. It builds you so much meter. The key is not to spam but use when you think a string is coming.
B doesn't beat Guard. As also shown in your video, Guard blocks B in the first round of the Clash. However this triggers the second round of the clash and in this round Guard CANNOT be used (well it can, but it will be beaten by everything). I guess they implemented it that way, so that players can't chicken their way out of it. However RE is not that bad, since it can be easily side stepped or countered with a Break Attack (A+B). Otherwise it's just a form of guessing game...so basically something a fighting game is based upon. I like it.
...I don't understand why someone would ever celebrate a guessing game in ANY fighting game. Games like Street Fighter get lambasted for having too many 50/50 mixups, where it doesn't rely on skill, only on creating situations where you could be right or wrong and you don't really know. The problem with RE is that it's has no real punishes, and anyone can do it, without skill, turning any point of a match into the guessing game. RE eats attacks, parries throws and is nearly unstoppable once it begins; you can't rely on sidestepping all the time, because that's a good way to get punished and eat a throw or a horizontal. Worse still, you are forced to engage, and you can't even backpedal; you HAVE to respond, the game even goes so far as to teleport your characters into position once it begins. As a Xianghua main, I hate being literally forced into a situation where I would rather back out and try to counter, or just not engage at all, but once the RE connects-- even if you were blocking-- you are forced to respond, and having that control taken from me is annoying. In other fighting games, mixups and guessing games require some form of skill. As it stands with this game, it's basically a desperate noob button that every single character has. and let's be honest; there is no reason why it should parry throws.
@ Antwar Talley I celebrate it for a simple reason: It looks great. I know, how that sounds, but I play this game for fun. Even though I play ranked matches, I don't believe for a second, that I will make it under the top 50.000 (except for the day, where there's only 50.000 players left), so why bother. I play for fun, whether I win or lose. What I want from SC, is nice looking powerful matches with great soundtrack and that's exactly what I get. Regarding the guessing game - I think, that's the very basis of a fighting game. If it wasn't it would be boring as hell, because - in my opinion - it would mean, that players can block anything on reaction, which would reduce the entire match to the boring matter of trying to fish for a hit and confirming into a combo. You are right, that RE cannot be stopped, once it connects. However it can be easily sidestepped. This move doesn't track. In the tutorial I sidestepped the RE the moment the CPU started the animation. All I did was one sidestep and the RE whiffed big time after a full second (or so) of powering up. And since A+B destroys RE, I don't really see the problem. I do understand your concerns regarding a noob button, but the point is - even if a noob manages to connect the RE, it doesn't mean that he is in control now. Once RE starts, both players play the guessing game. And at this point it simply breaks down to knowing, which option the opponent gains the most of. And that's the option you gotta counter.
The spammers are relatively easy to predict. Most people 'accidentally' spam vertical when confronting someones RE. That's why I feel like the forward dodge isn't as useful as it seems. More-over, alot of spammers like to use RE offensively... which is a major mistake. It's very slow and with an obvious startup, it's easily baited and sidestepped. And lastly, every guard crush attack (the ones with the blue lightning effect) completely break RE attempts... so those are really good to learn on your main.
Like getting thrown out the stage by Astaroth? with full life? because it is not just rock paper scissors it becomes too random, the initiator has advantage, requires no skill to activate, it breaks the flow of the match.
The aggressor always wins the second reversal it is why they spam it, the only answer is to go in an all out reversal edging war and try to do it first, So so so so so so so so so stupid! Who ever ODs on RevEdge in my rooms a boot them win or lose. been playing SC since dream cast and this is the first thing I truly hate about the game. This shouldn't be able to be done at will with no Gage or anything.
Single player mode is boring easy and the fighting is easy with this mechanic. Lack moves and stances from 4 and or 5 and put easy attack. Online is just dumb because this mechanic is too Convenient! This lacks the custom creation like 4 and 5. And we only get 3 character for 30 dlc with armor and they may give out more characters in another season pass.
@@davora8954 The easiest thing to do is Guard Break it with A+B. If you see someone spamming it, theirs your answer. The only crime in the Reversal Edge is not being able to do one.
I hated this until I understood what they were thinking with it; it's a come-back mechanic. If you're in a round where you're at 20% health vs 90% or something, if you just play out the match you're almost certainly going to lose. But you can throw out one of these for a gamble on really big damage that can even out the round. If you lose the RE, you would have probably lost anyway, but if you win the RE, now it's 20% vs 40% and you have a good chance
Im kinda glad this mechanic is here because I get free hits on noobs that spam it lmao, its s risky, only dumb dumb players actually use it as part of their strategy

I'll wait.
If you clash twice on any of the 3 attack buttons the person who did it would always win
According to Rooflemonger on TH-cam, the initiator of the reversal edge wins the second time if they both positive the same button
Initiator always wins on second stalemate, I think it works that way with V and A as well as long as you both hit the same button twice
Thank you!!!
And number 7 will BLOW YOUR MIND
Not to mention the amount of KO's I have gotten from Late-game RE when an opponent
gets overzealous. Its got a bad rep because of what poor players can do with it, but if you are a bit more advanced, its a trump card to reset some unfavorable situations.
Only just started watching your videos, and really because I see you use yugo's emblem from bloody roar, great videos btw!
Thanks
This is actually wrong, it goes... B beats A, K beats B and A beats K... side step up or down beats B and step in or out beats A but it's also very character dependent
This is so broken
I agree
It is over used and should either be apart of the gauge or removed
Reversal edge is actually broken. Yeah it's punishable but if you hit me when I activate it I get meter. And I win I get a lot of meter and free damage. Which mean I can soul charge more which mean I can beat you down. That's this game. Some characters become godlike when soul charged. It builds you so much meter. The key is not to spam but use when you think a string is coming.
Also I would like to point out I get meter even if I lose the reversal edge. As long as I initiate.
Reversal edge spam = trash
@ Dazari
If it's being spammed, just sidestep it or break it with A+B.
@ Antwar Talley
I celebrate it for a simple reason: It looks great.
I think it's because you initiated reversal Edge
Do a ivy guide please
The player who starts RE wins the second round automatically after a double draw
The person imitating reversal edge always wins if they use the same attack as opponent both rounds
People spam a lot... I might be bad at anticipating people actions because I loose Re most of the time >
The spammers are relatively easy to predict.
@@Krescentwolf true genius, ty
this mechanic needs to go, period
I like it people don't use it to often
based on your name I will assume that you are being sarcastic
@@daviddejuannavarro291 no I legitimately think it's fine. It's not just rock paper scissors there's a lot of mind games and reads that go into it
Like getting thrown out the stage by Astaroth? with full life?
because it is not just rock paper scissors it becomes too random, the initiator has advantage, requires no skill to activate, it breaks the flow of the match.
@@daviddejuannavarro291 That's the best part, maggot!
Dammit I really wanna play this game but I can't afford it :(
Rip me.
Get on sale.
Hopefully you have a ps4... It will be a free ps plus game next year
@@Turtleshellon Lmao I highly doubt that and there's no way I'm waiting till next year to play it. I'm just gonna buy it with my next check.
@@Kanzuki you highly doubt what? That it will be free on PSN? You must not have PSN... That's what they do :)
@@Turtleshellon I highly doubt Soul Calibur VI will ever be on PS+. Tekken 7 woulda been on + by now if SC6 was an obvious choice for PS+.
5 ads? Really?
The aggressor always wins the second reversal it is why they spam it, the only answer is to go in an all out reversal edging war and try to do it first, So so so so so so so so so stupid! Who ever ODs on RevEdge in my rooms a boot them win or lose. been playing SC since dream cast and this is the first thing I truly hate about the game. This shouldn't be able to be done at will with no Gage or anything.
I hate how people spam it, even com in arcade mode spams it.
You can easily sidestep it or punish it with a guard break. Anyone who spams this gives themselves away immediately.
If people spam it those guard stamina and can be broken easily
honestly this skills reversal edge needs to consume bar 3 and the longer u hold it it deplete. people cheese with this shit.
Its easily punishable. You can sidestep it AND you can crush it with a Guard Break
Xianghua is my main i love her sooo much as a character
Libra of souls the computers are spamming it
Single player mode is boring easy and the fighting is easy with this mechanic. Lack moves and stances from 4 and or 5 and put easy attack. Online is just dumb because this mechanic is too Convenient! This lacks the custom creation like 4 and 5. And we only get 3 character for 30 dlc with armor and they may give out more characters in another season pass.
If people spam reversal just side step and punish. Easy as that.
Clockworklemon it’s still a trash system. Because you can win with that move alone.
@@clockworklemon9243 side step wont work they mash B
@@davora8954 The easiest thing to do is Guard Break it with A+B. If you see someone spamming it, theirs your answer.
The only crime in the Reversal Edge is not being able to do one.
@@Sushi-Katana That comment was made before I knew how to counter it, it's still a lame spammable mechanic tho.
You sound like John mulaney Do ppl tell you that?
Huh, makes much more sense.
How can you make a video to inform and not know the facts....
you didn't explain what Reversal Edge is haha
I think it's a great new addition. They had to try and do something different, it was getting boring...
Im kinda glad this mechanic is here because I get free hits on noobs that spam it lmao, its s risky, only dumb dumb players actually use it as part of their strategy
Esta mecanica apesta. El juego termina en un patetico volado y no por habilidad. Sucks.
too many adds man, too many adds.
