    • @KingLoop13
      @KingLoop13 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Same here man! I went from trombone to bassoon as well, and at first I had no idea how to even get a sound to come out of the reed since I was so used to the mouthpiece of brass instruments. You should definitely get a teacher, but two problems for bassoon is there's not many teachers for bassoon, and the lessons usually cost quite a lot. But its totally worth it, and one of my main goals for bassoon is to play this piece. It's my favorite for bassoon.

    • @emmawilliams16
      @emmawilliams16 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      People I've talked to do say that playing trombone helps with bassoon and vice versa. I play the bassoon and have had a go on the trombone quite a few times, the embouchure is actually quite similar!

    • @ralexlee133
      @ralexlee133 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      KingLoop13 I am currently in the process of switching from Euphonium (trombone mouthpiece) to bassoon and honestly the sound isn't all that hard to make, you just have to realize where to press the embouchure down. Don't forget that seeing as it is a woodwind instrument, you are blowing air through the reed to create vibrations, not vibrating your lips to blow air through the horn. Make sure you are using the correct reed (if you are having trouble, start off on a softer reed) and NEVER EVER use a plastic reed. Also, make sure you are blowing enough warm air. Bassoons don't work well in cold environments. Once you get started, remember that you don't need nearly as much air constantly going through the instrument to play a bassoon as you do a brass instrument.

    • @KingLoop13
      @KingLoop13 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alex Lee I didn't even know plastic reeds were a thing haha. That seems ridiculous. I use medium-soft pre-made reeds or I get them from a site that my teacher recommended. They have a size they refer to as "Regular", and I usually shave them down as I like getting the sound out very easily. Only problem is the fact that this makes my reeds EXTREMELY fragile, which means I go through reeds every 2 months or so.
      I also just decided to rent a bassoon made of I believe redwood as the ones my school supplied were plastic beginner ones that produced quite the unpleasant sound. It was much harsher than the wooden one I use now. Thanks for all those tips by the way.

    I've always wondered how classical players choose their main instruments. I mean I play in a metal band and I play the lead guitar because in metal the lead guitar is king, my friend plays the drums because in metal the drums are essential but no one wants to play the bass because in metal no one gives a damn about the bass player. So I guess that in classical music everybody wants to play the violin or the piano but why choosing the bassoon or the oboe or the trombone. I mean I love the sounds of those instruments don't get me wrong, I'm just wondering how and when someone decide to choose those instruments instead of the other aforementioned more famous instruments.

      I think they only get as far as "weird double reed instrument" in their heads. If it's not something they ever really think about, it's a natural mistake -- after all, they've managed to name the most closely related common woodwind. It's only if you know both instruments it seems insane.
