Anyone listening in 2018? I remember when I used to play bassoon... after learning that instrument istg no other instrument was hard afterwards. Like brass instruments honestly are just the easiest things compared to this
as a bassoonist and a brass player I have to disagree with that statement. while double reed instruments such as the bassoon are some of the most difficult instruments to play, some brass instruments such as the horn are just as difficult. I mean sure the trumpet is easy but minus that they are about equal. bottom line anyone CAN atleast agree that the saxophone and flute are too easy and there are too many of those. not enough bassoon. sorry I have no idea where this comment is going lol.
@@alexspies8440 As a multi instrumentalist myself, who plays oboe, trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, violin, guitar, etc. I have to say that the brass instruments are much harder than the double reeds. Ok the double reeds are harder than the simple reeds, especially the bassoon because of the fingerings, but a combination of fingerings can produce only one note (or two in the case of flutes, even 3-4 or more in case of traditional flutes like the Romanian caval) . The trumpet can play from C2 to C8 without any key pressed, I think it is much harder to master than any woodwind instrument. Switching from one brass instrument to another shouldn't be so hard ,though.

I've been listening to this for over half my life my life; it was on my MySpace profile in 2007. On the other hand, it will never stop being funny to me that someone manages to sneeze in the first two seconds, right on cue. Might as well be in the score. Also, it took me 15 years to realize 4:45 is the Super Mario 2 Overworld theme, slowed down. I can't count how many times this version has gotten stuck in my head and brought me back to the video.
Annnnd now I have this comment chain to grimly remind me every time I return to this video. But I will not delete it and instead remember not to be an idiot.

I currently play tenor sax, bari sax, clarinet, piano, bass, electric guitar, and have just begun playing bassoon. Sadly, I sound no where as great as this quartet. I hope to learn. It's the most difficult instrument I've learned.
My entire school has agreed, Bassoon is the most epic instrument in existence. It's the only instrument I've ever had trouble with on first try, thus, I REALLY wanna master it xD This whole piece is so deeply beautiful. I grew up with Nintendo and Nintendo music so closely. 4:45, and I started crying :]
Fantastic!!! Brilliant! Great choice of music to perform. Sounds like nothing else. 3:04 is classic. And Stage 4 is SO SCARY! Especially when performed on the bassoons. I'm a band director, and one of my 6th graders became interested in playing the bassoon after watching this video. Nice work! Thanks for sharing your talents with us.
This is so beautiful to listen to. The instrument's tone and the precision of the note-playing make me feel like I'm sitting in front of my classic games. Very well done! I love the little giggles you induce every now and then too, it makes this piece complete! :)
Does anyone know if from 1:20 to 1:32 is an actual Mario tune or if he wrote that because it's magnificent and I listen to repeatedly to hear the last chord.
Evan Lloyd Actually, I'm like 90% sure it's a different song from Super Princess Peach, it's like the Toad Shop Theme or something. You know what song I had a really hard time finding though? The one right afterwards at 1:32. It's the Yoshi's Island (super mario world 2) song called Flower Garden. The description is extremely unclear about that. The song titles in the description are actually just quite bad in general. What's noteworthy though is that they actually changed the style of the song so much as to make it quite difficult to identify, but it still sounds just so impressive. I really like what they did with that arrangement.
I've been playing the bass clarinet as my main instrument in my school's band for the past two years (started in 7th grade, and am going to 9th grade this upcoming year). In 8th grade, I decided to take a second band class to learn the bassoon as well. I absolutely love the sound of bassoons, but mine was a plastic one and sounded terrible. My bass clarinet sounds far better and so I decided to play it throughout high school, even though I prefer bassoons. Unfortunately, wooden ones cost at least around $8,000 (although I've seen a few ones on Ebay for just $1,000, but who knows how well they really work). And my family has financial difficulties so there's no way we could afford one. :'( It was a miracle that we were able to find a high-quality $500 bass clarinet at a trusted music store... If anyone has any recommendations on how to get a wooden bassoon, help would be awesome.
+Jharmainyack Let's look at it this way: How many hours are you planning to play? If you are going to be putting thousands of hours into bassoon practice, then you should do everything you can to get a wooden one. The sound difference is well illustrated by this video: Plastic instruments sound like synthesized video game music compared with the rich character of the wooden originals. It would be far wiser to buy a second hand wooden instrument that needs to be reconditioned than to just settle for plastic. It's hard to sustain your enthusiasm for playing a musical instrument (especially one for which you will not be considered "cool" by most people) if you can't even enjoy your own sound. At least that was my experience when I played clarinet. I still have my old wooden clarinet- I can't quite get myself to sell it, even though I am sure I will never play it again. But I gave away my plastic one to an elementary school- many years ago. So the decision you need to make is how much effort you plan to commit to the bass clarinet and bassoon. It's not easy to get to be very good at both simultaneously. Anyone who is willing to put so many of youth's precious hours into either one of those instruments has my respect.
Thanks for the reply! :D I recently did some research and I found a barely used wooden off-brand bassoon for $1800 at www.charlesmusic.com/cgi-bin/theo?action=product&product_number=3-4-112 "Wood" something like this be worth investing into, or should I look for a Fox one?
Bassoons are just so cheerful sounding when played correctly! I love it! It reminds me of a giant creature you'd find in a fantasy world that you wouldn't originally find to be friendly (like a giant or an ogre) with an unusually pleasant disposition. like a friendly giant. idk. That's what they remind me of. just so amazing!
That was awesome! I can't believe that I didn't like the bassoon a few years ago.. I LOVE the timbre! Not to mention you guys have great tone! Also, where did you guys get the music? IS a a hand written or a store bought?
wow i never get tired of listening to this!!! i play the bassoon and oboe, and some single reeds and string instruments, and flute, and piano...and the more i watch this it blows the other instruments i play out off the water....bassoon players rock!!!!
I just started learning Bassoon this year, moving from Alto Saxophone. I switched because my school's band had two bassoons that just graduated and I thought they were epic, especially when they played in The Stone Guest. The increased chance for a scholarship was a bonus. So, I searched bassoon... and I find this. You have made a geeky bassoon player's day. I hope I can find a group like yours when I learn to play it better.

Anyone who wants the sheet music, let me know - I have a pretty accurate transcription of it. I would say my version is about 85% accurate. Not 100% because some of the parts were written by Guangyuan (the arranger, and the person playing first bassoon) and are not available. But nonetheless, let me know if you want a copy.
Cody Jeter wow are you really that dumb, brass is expensive so they dont use at instruments, you must be thinking of bronze, which is used to make guitars i think. idiot.. even william is smarter than you
+TheDucklets If you were actually educated in music then you would know that in band the trumpets, trombones, baritones, horns, and tubas belong to a family of instruments literally called the brass instruments. They are in the brass family not because of what they are made out of, but because of the way the sound is produced, which is by the buzzing of the lips amplified by the instrument itself. I was taught that in elementary school, moron.
Cody Jeter I don't think you understand who's the troll here, so please don't call me the moron 4Head also thats fucking easy to know you probably didnt know that saxophone isnt a brass instrument also oh wait no its a bronze instrument, just like guitars.
this is awesome!!! i didnt know bassoons were this beautiful sounding!!! it's like a trumpet, only , idk, richer, i guess you could say... this is amazing guys!!! excellent job!
OMG! The beat-boxer made my stomach do happy flips ^_^ This is an unbelievably amazing video. I've never heard any bassoons sound this great or happy, as a person below me said. I sincerely love this (:
You guys are great. This medley played on 4 bassoons by people who AREN'T expert players would come out as a bunch of noise, but you guys did it so well! Thanks for showing the world :P I'll have to show the bassoon who sits next to me in band class that his instrument DOESN'T suck!
The bassoon is epic. We really enjoy playing it,too! It's always great to play a variety of instruments so you can succeed in all of them, sort of like in this video. This was great!
You guys are amazing!!:) I've wanted to play the bassoon for a while but their so expensive!! I play the flute and whenever someone asks me why I want to play bassoon I show them this video!:) I luv you guys!!;)
Loved it!!! I'm in highschool and play the Bari-sax. I just started to learn how to play Bassoon last month and we had our concert tonight, the song I played Bassoon for was Whispers from the Heart in loving Memory of my friend Emily Jones. But I love the Bassoon, I'm happy I'm learning to play it!!!!
I started with flute in fourth grade but then in sixth I began to transition. I'm in eighth now, and I have to say it's a very neat instrument, nothing like anything else in our band. The fingerings are tough to learn at first, but the counting in music (at least at middle school) is easier than, say, flute. I'm glad I switched.
muy bueno che! me gusta mucho el fagot, y claramente se puede ver que no solamente se puede hacer música clásica, sino también divertirse con cualquier solo. Saludos de Argentina!
you guys are amazing! (and really cute! ;) loveloveloved the sound effects by the guy on the far left xDD i know how to play most of these songs on piano, and its really amazing to hear the same song on a different instrument~ loved all of it!! :D
I am so glad that I chose the bassoon. I am currently using a Fix II Bassoon and it is pretty good. I think one if te people there was using it. I an also glad to be part of a bassoon!
A double reed instrument is one that uses two reeds that vibrate together to make the sound that travels through the instrument. Oboe, bassoon, and english horn are all part of the double reed family
It is referred to as fagott in sheet music as this is the German word for bassoon, but it is not called that in the English language. You'll hear it all...but ignore it; it's good to be unique and it's a beautiful instrument. My orchestra teacher once told me that while people may not recognize the sound of a bassoon in an orchestra, they would notice if it was missing. You'll be surprised how much you notice the bassoon being utilized in modern day music and often in advertisements!

I don't play bassoon but I wish I did because I love the sound that they make. (yooo flutes anyone)
Raccoon Raxcoin Yee I play flute (Not my main instrument, but I play it)
I absolutely loved this. What a fun way to come together as a group and play.
Bassoon solos and just in general are so beautiful sounding.
Obligatory oboe joke.
Their button pressing is louder than mine when I player soopr maro witha video game controller lol
buttons, holes, flick keys who gives a shit
Cody Jeter wow are you really that dumb, brass is expensive so they dont use at instruments, you must be thinking of bronze, which is used to make guitars i think. idiot.. even william is smarter than you
jldriver02 lol feeding the troll
+TheDucklets If you were actually educated in music then you would know
that in band the trumpets, trombones, baritones, horns, and tubas belong to
a family of instruments literally called the brass instruments. They are in
the brass family not because of what they are made out of, but because of
the way the sound is produced, which is by the buzzing of the lips
amplified by the instrument itself. I was taught that in elementary school,
moron.
Cody Jeter I don't think you understand who's the troll here, so please don't call me the moron 4Head also thats fucking easy to know you probably didnt know that saxophone isnt a brass instrument also oh wait no its a bronze instrument, just like guitars.
2019 anyone?

There's nothing like a good bassoon quartet. Really nice sound. I'm quite jealous - I wish I had that music!
You guys are great. This medley played on 4 bassoons by people who AREN'T expert players would come out as a bunch of noise, but you guys did it so well! Thanks for showing the world :P
I'll have to show the bassoon who sits next to me in band class that his instrument DOESN'T suck!
This video is AMAZING! (well, more or less the sound quality and the people in it). Thank you for your awesome music! :)
This is just so amazing...
Word can not describe the epicness that is a double reed
Loved the added sound effects. XD Well done all around!
The bassoon is epic. We really enjoy playing it,too! It's always great to play a variety of instruments so you can succeed in all of them, sort of like in this video. This was great!
A musical performance and a comedy show at the same time!!! Genius!!!
this is adorable. I love the way bassoons sound!
AMAZING! im in the middle school band and this shows me that it is worth it to learn how to play the bassoon
Wow this is incredible... Who would've known that video game music could be so beautiful?
You guys are amazing!!:) I've wanted to play the bassoon for a while but their so expensive!! I play the flute and whenever someone asks me why I want to play bassoon I show them this video!:) I luv you guys!!;)
brought back so many memories from when i was little. gave me that wonderful Nintendo feeling again. thanks guys =]
Oh this looks so much fun to play! Awesome job, this makes me miss playing the bassoon!
this is so greatly composed....i think i'll marry it.
you guys are amazing! (and really cute! ;) loveloveloved the sound effects by the guy on the far left xDD i know how to play most of these songs on piano, and its really amazing to hear the same song on a different instrument~ loved all of it!! :D

my two favourite things; bassoons and super mario!
i just started the oboe this year, such a great instrument!
You'll be surprised how much you notice the bassoon being utilized in modern day music and often in advertisements!
guys it's oberlin, pretty top notch music school
i love the double reed sound. this group does it justice
That was awesome I just switched to bassoon this year it's so much fun to play and it has an amazing range
