Took me way too long to put two and two together though 😂

I'm not a rapper by any means, however I write poetry- so when I first heard this song,...let's just say (like the other NF songs) it hit hard. Some of my best poems are about dark things, and I've had to have that conversation in the sense of,..wanting to have that struggle continue to control my writing and works, but at the same time, you don't want it to keep controlling everything else.
it's a give and take- create deep, meaningful pieces, but at the cost of getting other things in your life controlled by fear.

Nate's music is the MCU of rap. So many story threads and callbacks that literally stretch entire albums. Characters that grow, change, adapt. It's incredible to piece together.
Once the journey is done, you should react to NF - Remember This. It's not complex as such, but you could literally pause after every bar, it's just straight facts and it's some real motivational shiz

I love this song because I see it as fear’s last attempt to try and control Nate knowing that Nate no longer acknowledges him. Fear, being a liar, comes at Nate with all that he’s got attacking him from all angles, pushing every button he knows will trigger Nate.
There is one line where fear says “wake up and take your own advice, you’re just mad cuz you know I’m right” which paints a picture that Nate is pissed off during fears bashing, not because Fear is right but because Nate’s tired AF with all of fears lies. Like you said it’s an abusive relationship and Nate is donzo with it.
I don’t think you’ll ever get tired of this song because it allows you to imagine the convo in your own way in your own head.

NF throwback references to this segment of Mansion so many times in Intro III. It's really subtle, but when fear says "Come on, let's go outside! Is this what you wanted? Both of us out in the open? Let's do it then I mean, why are you doin' this?" That's specifically meant to draw you back to the lyrics about how in order to get fear out he'd have to open the door. Then again in Intro III, Fear actually goes and directly like SpongeBob mockery voices what NF said in Mansion by going "HEY, I'M NF! Is IT Me Or tHe FEaR TAlkInG?! Huh?! WHAT A DUMB QUESTION!" The crazy storytelling that NF weaves between all of his content is mind-boggling!

When he's talking about digging the grave and how deep his music is.... "Rap about it for 3 minutes...Hey, that's pretty deep isn't it?" That always makes me think of how emotionally deep his songs and thoughts can be, but also just how deep of a hole he needed to dig to bury fear.
First time on your channel. Like others have said, great breakdown. Absolutely love the no frills approach and the detailed descriptions. You're also the first person I've heard to react to this song, and reference My Darling. That's the first thing I thought of after really listening to Intro 3.

Also, may I just say your view on the fact that people with mental issues are afraid of the version of themselves without it... that's a bar! At least from my point of view (I've been going through various stages of depression for over 10 years now and only in the last 2 I've worked up enough courage to actually push myself to deal with it). And just like you said, this is what draws us in to Nathan's music. He doesn't sugarcoat it and tells it as it is. Yeah, you push it away in its own room, you eventually get it out and try to kill it but... who are you without it, at the end of the day? Still searching for the answer to that question ("The search" reference *wink wink*)

I love Ernest reaction at the end...before the cat meow. His mind is blown and is wrapping around what just took place. I found NF the week he released Mansion and had no idea how much hype would follow. He is amazing and never disappoints. I have to take time with every song to grasp the long journey he is taking us on. Every song and album are done intricately. Each song pointing to another and about how real he is. The reason he will grow to be the best and reach millions of ears is because he is real. He hides nothing and hangs it all out to dry and for everyone to see. His Journey will drag others out of the mud (life) and get them on their feet again. Truly an amazing artist.
I think he meant anger is in the basement not Johnny. Like when your really mad it feels like it's coming from your core. Just a feeling in the gut that just radiates and builds till it blows.
