That ending, where he's crying, was recorded in the moment. He made everyone leave the studio, but told them to leave the mic on.

@@izzillidizzilli6188 NF asked the producer, Tommee Profit, to leave the room because this was such a personal and vulnerable moment like he said in a 2017 interview with Idolator.
It’s real. I mean, that’s really me crying. My producer left the room. For like five minutes I just talked on the microphone. There’s so much stuff people didn’t hear that we took out, of me just bawling and talking about memories. It was very therapeutic for me. We picked through the stuff that we felt was the most important."

When hes with his mom and says: "you started crying, telling me this isn't you, couple weeks later i guess you were singing a different tune"
I interpret it as HER saying the drug addiction isn't HER and that's why she was singing a different tune weeks later when she took the pills for the last time.

A lot of reactors seem to miss the point of the "This isn't you" line. I always take it as his way of saying she said "this isn't me" and is why he followed with "I guess you were singing a different tune". Like your reactions and you got a sub.

This reaction earned you a sub. I can't ever listen to this song without crying. I have never struggled with drugs but with severe depression & PTSD from an abusive 1st marriage. I had music playing one night while I was in my bathtub and about to overdose...this song came on!!! I stopped what I was doing. Called my husband (husband #2) and told him he needed to get off work. I got help & luckily still here for my husband and 3 daughters. My biggest wish is to be able to tell NF how this song saved my life. I still struggle with depression but it is manageable. So I have been a huge NF fan since. I didn't post this for anyone to judge me, so if you don't understand what depression can do to you...please don't judge me. I have had many tell me I was being selfish. When in my mind I was going to release them of me being a burden.

I hope the best for you. I'm only 12, but I suffered from depression and major anxiety (10% depression and 90% anxiety I would say) and life was very hard. This happened when I was only 8!! But know it is contained but some days i feel anxious and nervous of what will happen. I feel NF when he talks about this sensitive subject. I love listening nf and Twenty Øne Piløts because of there style and meaning behind those lyrics. I'm glad it wasn't as bad as others (such as suicidal depression.) I hope the best for you and anyone in this world. Stay safe

I think the part where he says "I brought you some to listen to, and you started crying; saying this isn't you." Is actually referring to his mother saying this drug-addiction isn't the real her. Since he follows it up with "Couple weeks later, I guess you were singing a different tune." meaning she went straight back to her pills after saying she's better than that.

Damn... I'm already a huge fan of yours. NF's video reactions are by far my primary, followed by Eminem and Bill Burr. But, bro... your awareness is unreal to me considering the fact that you didn't live a life anywhere similar to his, from what I can tell. But your insight, at least from my perspective, is so spot on that it's hard to even describe. What really hit me... 1: The Fresh Prince video. I have seen it sooo many times growing up and have never once been able to keep from tearing up. 2. The fact that you echoed the very thing I've thought (since I very first heard this song) about, "I just wish I would have picked the phone up and called". On my 12th birthday I called my dad. Found his name in the phonebook. Very short story... he could have cared less. It's a memory I'll never forget, only worsened by the fact that he's now dead. I'll never get closure. The fact that you picked up on what Nate said, and was able to go that deep with it... Your parents must be incredible and your soul, beautiful. No homo. Lol. Very much enjoyed the first two reactions of your journey, and will definitely be there for the rest. Continue tearing it up, bro

This song makes my heart hurt for him, and it motivates me to be the best mom I possibly can be. It hurts to know that kids go thru this. It’s ugly. My heart breaks for them. I never ever ever want my kids to feel this way about ANYONE in their life. I want to protect them. Whew. This is too real. Your reaction and breakdown put my thoughts into words.

The line about a lady in the corner watching and taking notes is about supervised visitation with his mother. Probably because of her past drug usage, there is a supervisor to watch the visit with his mom in order to make sure nothing bad goes down.

"you started crying, telling me this isn't you, couple weeks later, guess you were singing a different tune"
You catch a lot of bars and meanings, man, even some I don't see. But she was saying "this isn't me" not "this isn't you" as in "imma get sober" not "you ain't a rapper".
Either way, love the reactions, man.

I don't know why today I decided to finally watched this reaction bc I've been avoiding it but when I heard it the first time I was a wreck for a minute and seeing the video today and listening to it again brought it all back. I can't help but cry for everyone who's gone through this and pray for their healing. I lost my mom so I feel him and his pain when he says how could you leave us and my mom was always there even with the pills being present but even though I try to never think about this type of stuff I appreciate Nate's courage to let us in and put these feelings and thoughts into words.

I absolutely love all your NF reactions they're very inspiring they make me want to listen to every song that he puts up it really puts stuff in perspective that skips over your head when it's going so fast. You made a comment in this video talking about your dog always being on the couch my opinion on that is a greyhound loves to run getting a boosted board or something like that to where she can stretch her legs would increase both your Lifestyles needs and desires

“You started crying, saying that this isn’t you.” This was immediately after he’d shown her some of his songs. Given how intimate and personal they always are lyrically, this seems obviously to mean that they affected her (listening to them) in some way. Most likely because they touched on his experiences growing up with a drug addicted, negligent mother... And it’s this that makes her emotional and defensive. His you said “this isn’t you” was from his perspective- meaning that she was crying and saying “this isn’t me.” In effect, blaming the drugs/her addiction for the kind of mother she had and had not been. Hence the follow up of “I guess a couple weeks later you were singing a different tune”- she was back on the drugs.. So his point being “I guess this is who you are after all.”
