Without the guitar it has a very different feel to it. It's much calmer, controlled, but still rousing. Saving this for when me and the guys are next playing the F-14 on DCS. Put this on as the canopy comes down and we start rolling to the runway for a combat air patrol. Get lined up on the runway and put the full version with guitar on, light the afterburners and start riding for the danger zone.
OMG I’ll be 59 this December, this brings so much joy to my heat. I was 22 and would frequent my brothers house. I would stop by with my girl and watch Top gun EVERY weekend. His wife has passed, love you so much Carol. Their 3 kids were running around spilling popcorn and the VHS was blaring Top Gun. A long time ago was just yesterday. Fun memories, thank you! 😊
I was a USAF crew chief on F-4 Phantoms while stationed in England....I'd love to hear this with the jet noise from the opening in the movie without the danger zone music
For some reason I purchased the movie on Apple TV this weekend. This opening track was so: waaaaauw!! I watched the movie when it came out and was overwhelmed. I still had that feeling today! The movie still stands well against many of today's block busters, perhaps even better because there is less CGI, it's all real. Well almost :-) Great musical performance by Harold Faltermeyer
I remember as a 5 year old boy hearing that 8 bit anthem on the NES as the Konami logo came on the 25in tv in our living room. Having that rectangle controller in hand man the memories. Just wonder piece of music.

I came back after watching Reelz Top Gun #behindthecloseddoors today, it's 2020 now. I've got a fond memories of this movies since I was a little. The movie was totally brilliant and I just love it!
Este intro es épico y esperen a ver la nueva versión que se hizo en la nueva película top gun Maverick simplemente el mejor intro de la historia del cine tan real como te puedas imaginar.👍
Thank you so very much, I have waited since I was a young boy to hear this very version, because I never did before and I'm not sure when they finally released this. I always wanted to hear it as it was featured in the film to capture the same emotion and the guitar ruins it.... thank you again so much for posting this!!!
this was awesome I've been looking for this theme for quite a long time , hearing it again makes me think of an old dear friend , working on models of F-14 Tom cats, the carrier Enterprise, and of younger days.
out of strange irony, these tunes become once again relevant in present 2014 wth the Russian/Crimea crisis .......... wake up people, the 80's had great tunes to boost morale cuz' we'll need @ some point in time along the way as this and other similar turmoil begin to escalate.
Nicely done! Thanks for uploading! Hopefully, Faltermeyer's score will be released alongside his and the over-rated Zimmer's score for the upcoming *Top Gun: Maverick* next year.
I dunno about you guys, but this is what this tune reminds me off: Stinger (I THINK that's his name [Bold guy?] =p): "The communications ship USS Layton has become disabled and wandered into enemy territory. A rescue operation will begin within the hour. Your mission is to give air support for that rescue. There are MIGs in the area and tensions are high. If you witness a hostile act, you are to return fire. ... Gentlemen, this is the real thing. This is what you've been trained for. You are America's best. Make us proud." I may be English and I may not like some American films but Top Gun? Now there's a film I could watch 5 times in one day xD [Well...Maybe not FIVE but yeah....I hope you know what I mean! ;D]
For me, it's the sunrise on the aircraft carrier scene at the start. I think this soundtrack and that camera work would make anyone want to be whatever the guys were doing when they grow up. If I had this tune in my headphones while walking to my mall job in the predawn, I'd probably still be happily walking to a mall job in the predawn... As it is, I look back 30+ years to when this movie first came out. I'm the only whistleblower to bring down 3 corporations in 40 years, won't die despite my best efforts, some commendations and medals. I should be a 2-star admiral by now, but I'm an... analyst... This version used on the intro to the film wasn't it? And the bit where Maverick is "casting" off the memories of Goose when he throws the dog tags into the sea, and where you see maverick testing the weapons and fuel pylons on the aircraft before he climbs up the steps to the aircraft thinking about the loss of Goose and what he has to do in the mission for real!
The Bell always gives me goosebumps.

The instrumental version to me is the best. Gives you that calm vibe as you warm-up.
The version with guitar is also an instrumental version.
Your not alone
was so sad that this was never on the soundtrack not even the updated re-release when they added a bunch. thank you for posting
I was a USAF crew chief on F-4 Phantoms while stationed in England....I'd love to hear this with the jet noise from the opening in the movie without the danger zone music
this was the opening theme of the film.... pure awesomeness...should be considered an "anthem" for cinema & and audio sound tests
As iconic as the original is this one without the guitar is on a different level of awesome
the opening of this movie always made me smile and send shivers down my spine!
The afterburner shot of the F-14 goes well with the transition of the score. “Goose”bumps

I love the guitar version since I am a lead guitar player myself, but it is nice and ear cleansing version that sound"s clean and clear

Same. You can’t heard the riser melody with guitar. This version is 100% match with the beginning of TOP GUN. Nice music!

I'm glad that TOP GUN used the version instead of giutar version. This version is so emotional and Inspiring, But the guitar is good as well!!
