This is a progmetal homage to Dream Theater's Dance of Eternity, considered the most complex song in popular music with 108 time signature changes. BABYMETAL one ups DT with overlapping time signatures, dance, and vocals.
I think this is a clip of their live show at Tokyo Dome. So total stage production is great. I am not so familiar with music. But I think this is a kind of progressive, industrial, or power metal song. Progressive songs are rare for BABYMETAL. Other than this, it is about FDTD, right? It is difficult to dance with progressive on the beats, but because it's BABYMETL, this kind of production is possible. From Japan.
I don't know why people insist on asking you to react to types of music you've repeatedly said don't like. I believe you when you say progressive metal is not your thing, but I guess they think they can change your mind? I'm glad you gave it a shot and appreciated the musicianship and performance, though. Even metal genres I don't like can be enjoyable when Babymetalized. I think that's one of their superpowers.
This is much more Prog than Power Metal, which is the genre that Danny has said he doesn't care for. I don't recall him saying that he doesn't like Prog Metal. To quote an @MikePortnoy Tweet: "Actually LOVE the new @Korn…and am BLOWN away by what you've played me of @BABYMETAL_JAPAN! "Tales of the Destinies" is full-on PROG METAL". Loved Prog Rock back in the mid 1970's, during my teenage years and then came along Punk, Heavy Metal, New Wave, Ska, Disco, Electronica, Dance, Techno, Trance, etc, etc and I forgot all about it as a genre through the 80's 90's and into the 21st century. Then I listened to this and had to go and relisten to some Genesis, King Crimson and Yes and try and reappreciate the sounds. The result? This actually sounds more complex and interesting than any of the tracks I've heard from those Prog Rock giants so far! Go Babymetal! 🤘🦊🤘. This was the only time they performed this song and yet they learned a whole choreo routine for it - such hard workers at getting the performance right, even if it's only for the one time.
Thanks for your honest opinion, as always, I appreciate it more than a fake 'wow, this is the best stuff ever recorded!!' reaction. Of course, I listen to this track with a different set of ears. As my musical background is deeply rooted in prog rock / jazzcore / free rock / Zappa, I love this. No surprise, I guess... The only part of Tales that I would call power metal is the chorus, but that's rather short and is played only twice, ha ha. Also, you're right in that the major scale and mode that the composers chose for this (is it mixolydian? I'm not good at this) is very 'heroic', like most Dream Theatre or Yes songs are, and I usually prefer darker and more dissonant tonalities (read: King Crimson), but I guess we can't have all the good stuff in just one song. ;-) Tales of the Destinies is the first half of a two track suite, with 'The One' being the chillout segment (but still very much Dream Theatre-like, and still in the same key as before). That piano you heard at the end is the transition to The One. If you're interested, there is an official live video of that, and it's more ballad than power metal, rest assured. The other two songs I keep recommending, I hope I didn't spoil them or keep you from listening to them by labeling them power metal, because that's not what's important about them: 'Road of Resistance' was recorded with the help of two members of Dragonforce, and you can definitely hear that, but it's an incredible anthem, and you might appreciate the performance. 'Akatsuki' on the other hand, I'm not sure it's accurate to categorize it as power metal, at all. Because if it were, I wouldn't like it as much, obviously. :-)
This is one of their songs that takes time to open, at least for me..took my time with it, listened rarely but suddenly something clicked, and realised how complicated it was..all that talent making it.. still not my daily or even weekly song, but now i enjoy listening it.
I've never got into this song much either, but I grew to appreaciate it more with time. Maybe you should check some of their more melodic songs, like *The One* or *Shine.*
Good reaction - I guess there may be some elements or passages with a resemblance to power metal in this, but I wouldn't label it as a power metal song, I'd have called it prog metal personally (but all the genres overlap and some I don't know what they are at all). I used to like some prog rock back in the 70s (early Genesis, Pink Floyd, Rush to a lesser degree) but that was not the same as Dream Theater's style of prog metal which I am not so keen on. But as another reactor once said "This is like Dream Theater - but done well" (he was not a fan of Dream Theater either lol).
Full on 'Prog Metal'. One of their biggest Headline Concerts to date with 2 nights each of 55k in attendance at the Tokyo Dome. Funny how a lot of people say they don't care that much for the Vocals but its the Music that really draws them...here, it seems that its the music you don't care for but rather its Our Girls that save the day!! LoL!!!! Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!
It's a shame one of their best songs is a power metal song. Maybe you will try it anyway? Its called Road of Resistance if you do watch it make sure you watch the"Live from Japan Version" Even if you don't end up liking the song you will love the stage performance on that one.
As someone who use to watch "Dallas" and "Falcon Crest", you are right that the section does have a similar melody to those type of tv show theme songs! You have a great ear! Just like how you caught that one melody similar to the Buddy Holly song!
This was performed at the Tokyo Dome in late 2016 so the girls are 3 years older than in the Legend 1997 concert. I love your description of some of the themes sounding like the opening to soap operas....so Falcon Crest meets prog rock. I think this is Kobametal seeing just what he can get away with and pushing his creative envelope. The influence of Dream Theater's "The Dance of Eternity" is very obvious and it could have been a complete failure, but Babymetal bring their own unique talents to it with the vocals and dancing and The Kami Band are awesome. It either took a lot of guts or hubris to do this and Koba/BM pull it off spectacularly well...it's my favorite song and so I hoped to that Metal Galaxy would continue on the prog rock road, but I was a bit disappointed when the road turn out to be more like "World Music".
Before I discovered BABYMETAL, Dream Theater had been my favourite band for many years. But just liek with BABYMETAL, I can totally understand that they are not for everybody. Even at their concerts you can tell that there are predominantly musicians in the audience. But of course, even among musicians not everyone is a fan of complicated arrangements and heaps of meter changes (not sure if that's the correct word). You are wrong about the girls' ages, though. This was at the Tokyo Dome in 2016, so the girls were 18 and 17, if I'm not mistaken. Legend 1997 was in 2013.
Perfect reaction and don't worry about not liking the song. Music is subjective. You were still able to appreciate the girls performance and the musicianship of the Kami band. Personally, this is one of my least favorite song, although it grows on you after a while🙂. But I'm still able (like you) to appreciate it overall.
Danny....a suggestion....buy the blueray disc of this concert. It is totally worth it despite the ridicilous high cost including shipment. I can promise that your wife will love this magnificient show and later on will "steal" the blueray package😉🤘.
Good reaction! Babymetal has been around for 10 years, and have done 3 studio albums and 3 live ones, and have toured heavily allover the world. The cuteness and the heavy is a match made in heaven, and every song is different!!!! Congrats on the subs!!!!
This is a very progressive song and mostly of the time this song is recommended for people to get some level of flavor on Babymetal before to hear it because it might not be the taste for everyone, but if you like progressive you're gonna love it for sure, althou is way harder for the girls to dance this song and wasn't performed many times but The One loves it for sure. Talking about The One, it seems there's a fuzzy issue about last message at Budokan live concert, which for me mislead the real future of the group, it reads like this: *Metal Resistance finally comes to a close after a 10-year battle. The "10 count gong" making the end of the battle will eventually turn into a signal of departure. The 3 metal spirits that have been shining since 2010, even if they were to leave Earth, woul continue to shine forever in our hearts and across the Metal Galaxy, a legend turns into a myth wich turns into a LIVING LEGEND... What lies ahead beyond the end of the stairway to becoming a LIVING LEGEND is something Only the FOX GOD knows.* It was said many times by the girls the they want to continue with the band/group, they're gonna have a livestream announced by mid year (26/6) and KobaMetal leaked 4th album is on production, also the hint about Stairway To Living Legend and previous reference about "next chapter" was said throughtout the live concerts and special interviews many times so i don't get the fuzzy but anyway, whatever it comes it'll be good for me T_T #LIVINGLEGEND #OTFGK #BABYMETAL \m/
I don't *like* TOTD. I respect TOTD. :p I'm more likely to listen to Iine just because the mood strikes me. Which would be never. Still, I watch all the reactions, cos yeah, it's an experience and it's fun to see other people experience it, too. (I just don't dig prog in general. Tho there are a few exceptions. There are always exceptions.) Su does hit some killer notes in this one.
Apparently the music "Sounds like the intro to old soap operas like Dallas." W T F. Go back and listen to those intros. And then, please, never comment on social media again.
⚡ 💀 💕 / 🌟 🌟 🌟 @MikePortnoy Tweet: "Actually LOVE the new @Korn…and am BLOWN away by what you've played me of @BABYMETAL_JAPAN! "Tales of the Destinies" is full-on PROG METAL". Seriously, this song is way more Prog than Power Metal, so I really can't fault someone for suggesting it. I think both 'Road of Resistance' and 'Arkadia' are great BABYMETAL songs, but since they are much more in the Power Metal zone, I haven't recommended them to Danny. Also 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai'. Which is a shame, since BABYMETAL's Sonisphere UK 2014 performance that concluded with that song was a huge breakthrough for the group. And of course 'Road of Resistance' is a textbook example of great audience control. : )
Yeah if it's something I really can't appreciate anything at all about I just turn it off and stop the recording(and it happens now and again) so no problem att all suggesting stuff.

I wouldn't dismiss Babymetal's power metal songs. It's Babymetal, they put their unique spin on it. You should give 'em a chance!
東京ドーム1日目しかチケット取れなくて、2日目と曲が被る事ない告知だったから1番聴きたいこの曲やってくれと願っていたらやってくれたので感激だった!
そして、ベビメタ熱燃え尽きたw
🤘🦊🤘awesome🔥🔥🔥
Thanks!
Danny....a suggestion....buy the blueray disc of this concert. It is totally worth it despite the ridicilous high cost including shipment.
I can promise that your wife will love this magnificient show and later on will "steal" the blueray package😉🤘.
Thanks! I don't know if we have a blueray player even?!
@@dannytheswedishmusixian1513. Buy the DVD then😉
I greatly appreciate your HONEST reactions to BABYMETAL videos! GREAT REACTION! 🦊🤘
Thank you 😊👍🏻 I wish everyone felt the same 😁
Good reaction! Babymetal has been around for 10 years, and have done 3 studio albums and 3 live ones, and have toured heavily allover the world. The cuteness and the heavy is a match made in heaven, and every song is different!!!! Congrats on the subs!!!!
You must be the first person ever to say "Pretty much like I pictured it" after Tales of the destinies 😂
This is an acquired taste. A kick ass intro for the song they made for their fans.....”The one”
👍🏻
This is a very progressive song and mostly of the time this song is recommended for people to get some level of flavor on Babymetal before to hear it because it might not be the taste for everyone, but if you like progressive you're gonna love it for sure, althou is way harder for the girls to dance this song and wasn't performed many times but The One loves it for sure.
Talking about The One, it seems there's a fuzzy issue about last message at Budokan live concert, which for me mislead the real future of the group, it reads like this:
*Metal Resistance finally comes to a close
after a 10-year battle.
The "10 count gong" making the end of the battle
will eventually turn into a signal of departure.
The 3 metal spirits
that have been shining since 2010,
even if they were to leave Earth,
woul continue to shine forever in our hearts
and across the Metal Galaxy,
a legend turns into a myth
wich turns into a LIVING LEGEND...
What lies ahead beyond the end of the stairway
to becoming a LIVING LEGEND is something
Only the FOX GOD knows.*
It was said many times by the girls the they want to continue with the band/group, they're gonna have a livestream announced by mid year (26/6) and KobaMetal leaked 4th album is on production, also the hint about Stairway To Living Legend and previous reference about "next chapter" was said throughtout the live concerts and special interviews many times so i don't get the fuzzy but anyway, whatever it comes it'll be good for me T_T

I don't know how to distinguish between the deferent styles of metal. But I thought they sounded good, even if I don't know what they are saying.
It's progressive metal, not power metal. For power metal vibes go for Road of Resistance. Kitsune up! 🦊🖤🤘
This ain't power metal it's prog bruh
One of the most complicated song I ever heard. But normal people like me,still can enjoy it.
Well done Babymetal. 👍👍👍
Apparently the music "Sounds like the intro to old soap operas like Dallas."

Go back and listen to those intros.

@MikePortnoy Tweet:
"Actually LOVE the new @Korn…and am BLOWN away by what you've played me of @BABYMETAL_JAPAN!
