My 5 year old granddaughter's favorite song and video. Everything Floor does in this song, my granddaughter emulates pretty good, specially the windmill and she knows every word. She has been watching this video for 3+ years. Every time she comes and visits she asks me... "Pappy, do you want to hear a story? It's Storytime." Her parents are not into metal and she can't watch it at home.

Nightwish is their own genre and no other band comes close to the level they are at. Never, in the history of music entertainment, have a set of skills and talent collided in such powerful manner. Tuomas is a true genius as a composer and with lyrics.

What most people dont realise is that the part when Floor does her “operatic” vocals was originally a backing track. Annette, who was their previous singer couldn’t do that part. Floor took over the lead singer role just 10 months before this performance. So at least 90% of the audience are hearing that part live for the very first time. The same goes for the end note of Ghost Love Score, she started doing that ending like 6 months before this show.
Even Tarja didn't sing everything live herself, for whatever reason. Floor uses them as backup tracks to amplify her voice, which forces her to keep the tempo very precisely. Floor would sing more tracks from the band himself, but Thuomas doesn't want that. In interviews about the new album he also had to make it clear that neither autotune nor samples were used but that all instruments were real.
Hands down, the most magical creature in this solar system (at least). Best voice, best presence, all packed in a single person. It's unreal, absolutely overwhelming. She's the One.

Listen to them almost every day, had never heard of them before and yet I live in Sweden and am married to a Finnish woman. Haven't seen them live yet, hope to get that chance someday. Had tickets to a concert in Finland but it was canceled due to covid.
If you like Nightwish (Floor), then you must checkout Epica ! (lead singer Simone) This is a huge good band from the Netherlands with world fame! (currently touring in Mexico) And checkout Ayreon! in several songs you can also see Floor and Simone. Epica and Ayreon will broaden your view of fantastic bands, singers even further!
New Sub from Germany. Great reaction. Did you already reach out for their new Album Yesterwynde? The band has evolved again. This album is like an old concept album by Pink Floyd, you might take the time to listen to it from the first song all thru to the last one. After about 50 times now it grew on me up to the 5 best albums I own - and I am 64 now and have about 8000 records. The last song -Lanternlight- is my personal song of the year 2024 by far. It is very, VERY different but exactly that is the reason. For me Nightwish has evolved to those rare bands, that create art without any consideration to what anybody expected or to say it the short way: Nightwish does Nightwish things. They have become my favorite Symphonic Metal band. They have a song called Sancta Terra with a live orchestra and choir and a special guest - Floor Jansen! You should start there.

I still think The Poet and the Pendulum is Nightwish's masterpiece. Find the live version at I think Wembley? As I am not a metal fan, I really like their latest album too Yesterwinde. Unfortunately the band does not perform live anymore (temporarily?). Floor Jansen is now concentrating on her family and her solo career. She will give a series of theater performances in the Netherlands next year. But I think it is in Dutch. I think it is together with her sister, Irene Jansen who can sing impressively as well.

I discovered Nightwish through reactions too, having said that I'll make a suggestion of maybe your next favorite band "The Warning" and they are superb live if you do them try Enter Sandman from Pepsi center CDMX ... they are a three piece from Mexico they're right up there with NW (JMO) You have been Warned ! PS we are an army too
Nice fun reaction with friends. Nothing like a little Nightwish to run up the room temp when the air temp is dropping. ... if I may : a few well-intentioned tech tips : - shock-mount of isolate the mic's mounting base... this way you don't pick up the knee-bumps on the table. If there is a 4th channel on the headphone pre-amp, sometimes that is a good place to pick up isolated, full-spectrum audio. And it gives you the opportunity to level the song-audio vs mic/commentary content in post. - try a direct feed for audio (rather than mic pickup) Right now the EQ rolls off fast below 200 Hz and kills the bass. - the compressor is missing with off-angle audio. It kinda sounds like it's a multi-lobe pattern, but everyone is seated between the lobes. You might try am overhead mic with a single wide lobe pattern... just a thought. Of course, the actual audio quality and capabilities vary from setup-to-setup.
Tuomas' keyboard pipes originally shot flames (you can see it in earlier concerts), but they dropped the effect pretty quickly (too close to Marco, who looks quite flammable.) They have enough conventional stage pyros to keep the show interesting - at least on an outdoor stage.
Welcome down the rabbit hole that is Nightwish, North Carolina division of the Nightwish Army. May I also suggest Distain by ReVamp which was Floor's band before Nightwish.
Just my $ 0.02 ... It sounds to me like your microphone/audio setup is working too hard on filtering out background noises, and thus cutting off your voices. Also having (probably) a single microphone for 3 people in that situation isn't ideal.
I was about to say something about it, but you already did 👍 Even just get a relatively cheap external mic. And most importantly make sure it is placed in the middle. You don’t need professional equipment this stage. And just do some tests with filter setups etc. to see what works best for you. Other than that, positively a nice reaction. Keep going. You seem like a nice bunch of people. We can never have enough of these. Curious to see where you stand in a year from now. Also curious to see your reaction of GLS, especially watching your daughter react. Don’t spoil it beforehand though. Just let her watch without further ado … 😎

I hope you react to Ghost River from the same Wacken 2013 show, too. And I think you should try to improve your mic setup because it was hard to understand your speak at times because of low audio quality.

She is certainly considered to be the finest singer in the metal genre, but she has so many singing styles and capabilities that she is often labelled as the best in the world - which I agree with. Floor’s ability to hit you in the feels elevates her above other singers as this lovely family will see as they continue their Nightwish journey.
@ I don’t consider her a metal singer I would consider a metal singer one who can do tremendous levels of harsh articulately as well as cleans like Tatiana or Alissa. I would consider Floor to be a very adroit cinematic singer and if we’re in that genre I would myself say Simone Simons is the purest and the best in that space hands down
@@jonathanratliff4780 There are so many sub-genres in metal and of course Floor is in a symphonic metal band so not many harsh vocals. Her previous bands were heavier and included some harsh vocals. I found Nightwish on Alex's channel as well right after he put out video of Ghost Love Score and was hooked ever since. Another band you should look into is Epica. They have become my favorite Symphonic Metal band. They have a song called Sancta Terra with a live orchestra and choir and a special guest - Floor Jansen! You should start there.
If you guys like Floor (Nightwish) then you have to listen to one of Floor's BFF namee Simone Simons (friends since their teens). Simone is the leadsinger of a Dutch band called Epica.

I still think The Poet and the Pendulum is Nightwish's masterpiece. Find the live version at I think Wembley? As I am not a metal fan, I really like their latest album too Yesterwinde. Unfortunately the band does not perform live anymore (temporarily?). Floor Jansen is now concentrating on her family and her solo career. She will give a series of theater performances in the Netherlands next year. But I think it is in Dutch. I think it is together with her sister, Irene Jansen who can sing impressively as well.

I discovered Nightwish through reactions too, having said that I'll make a suggestion of maybe your next favorite band "The Warning" and they are superb live if you do them try Enter Sandman from Pepsi center CDMX ... they are a three piece from Mexico they're right up there with NW (JMO) You have been Warned ! Nothing like a little Nightwish to run up the room temp when the air temp is dropping.
... if I may : a few well-intentioned tech tips :
- shock-mount of isolate the mic's mounting base... this way you don't pick up the knee-bumps on the table. If there is a 4th channel on the headphone pre-amp, sometimes that is a good place to pick up isolated, full-spectrum audio. And it gives you the opportunity to level the song-audio vs mic/commentary content in post.
- try a direct feed for audio (rather than mic pickup) Right now the EQ rolls off fast below 200 Hz and kills the bass.
- the compressor is missing with off-angle audio. It kinda sounds like it's a multi-lobe pattern, but everyone is seated between the lobes. You might try am overhead mic with a single wide lobe pattern... just a thought.
Of course, the actual audio quality and capabilities vary from setup-to-setup.

Tuomas' keyboard pipes originally shot flames (you can see it in earlier concerts), but they dropped the effect pretty quickly (too close to Marco, who looks quite flammable.) They have enough conventional stage pyros to keep the show interesting - at least on an outdoor stage.

Welcome down the rabbit hole that is Nightwish, North Carolina division of the Nightwish Army. May I also suggest Distain by ReVamp which was Floor's band before Nightwish.
Just my $ 0.02 ... It sounds to me like your microphone/audio setup is working too hard on filtering out background noises, and thus cutting off your voices. Also having (probably) a single microphone for 3 people in that situation isn't ideal.

Check your "noise gate" settings first. If your microphone is not too directional (vs omni-directional), you should be fine with just one mic.

Even just get a relatively cheap external mic. And most importantly make sure it is placed in the middle. You don’t need professional equipment this stage. And just do some tests with filter setups etc. to see what works best for you.
Other than that, positively a nice reaction. Keep going. You seem like a nice bunch of people. We can never have enough of these. Curious to see where you stand in a year from now. Also curious to see your reaction of GLS, especially watching your daughter react. Don’t spoil it beforehand though. Just let her watch without further ado … 😎
@@AlaskanReactions Probably your microphone is narrow angle (is it right term in English?) version that gets sound from one direction only and suppresses sound coming from side?
I hope you react to Ghost River from the same Wacken 2013 show, too. And I think you should try to improve your mic setup because it was hard to understand your speak at times because of low audio quality.

Great female vocalist for sure… The best in the world!? that’s a huge scope to be on imagination and one title that can’t be placed on any one person
She is certainly considered to be the finest singer in the metal genre, but she has so many singing styles and capabilities that she is often labelled as the best in the world - which I agree with. Floor’s ability to hit you in the feels elevates her above other singers as this lovely family will see as they continue their Nightwish journey.
@ I don’t consider her a metal singer I would consider a metal singer one who can do tremendous levels of harsh articulately as well as cleans like Tatiana or Alissa. I would consider Floor to be a very adroit cinematic singer and if we’re in that genre I would myself say Simone Simons is the purest and the best in that space hands down
@@jonathanratliff4780 There are so many sub-genres in metal and of course Floor is in a symphonic metal band so not many harsh vocals. Her previous bands were heavier and included some harsh vocals. Simone is my equal favourite to Floor and just gets better with time.
