Excellent head to head tests. You should have tried to patch the leak using the spray itself, it would be interesting to know if these can be used to seal a dripping leak. Like a leaking shed roof or a water tank leak. Perhaps if the product was more viscous / thick it would adhere and provide more surface area, maybe a different nozzle.

Thank you for the review, me and a few friends are looking for something to paint a rectangle on our curbs to then stick reflective address stickers on, We're all tired of these people coming around, swearing they're using rubberized base spray and after 5 times paying for it, the addresses only stay 1 to 2 years max. I can replace the stickers every year.

    Hi!
I think you should temporarily apply some simple tape from the inside in each bottle, then apply the spray and remove the tape after.
That would help to fill the holes much easier using only one can each.

This was a good test for comparison. Most practical applications, such as roofing, would not involve submersion but just protection from spray, splash or drip.

  • @JustMe-gw4xj

They leaked because when the boxes warped it obviously made cracks in the boxes that's why they both leaked out, the flex seal probably cured more quickly than the gorilla so it was harder faster so when the boxes warped it cracked more so when you put the rocks in to hold the box the gorilla was slightly less cured so the partially cured spots it cracked in made a sealed tighter on contact, which means at least the flex seal cures faster and possibly harder which I believe is a win for flex seal, and judging by the other tests this is correct. ¡¡¡ALSO YOURE SUPOOSED TO HOLD THE CANS UPSIDE DOWN AND GIVE A COUPLE QUICK SPRAYS SO THE AIR CLEARS THE NOZZLE SO IT DOESNT CLUMP, AND AFFECT COVERAGE WHICH IS ESSENTIAL IF YOU WANT IT TO WORK!!! ¡¡¡SORRY FOR ALL CAPS!!! AND ¡¡¡EXCLAMATIONS!!!SO HERE'S SOME SMILEYS TO BALANCE OUT THE VIBE!!!😃😀😄😁😆🤣😂☺️🙃🙂😉❤🍆💦, woops the last two auto filled, I swear I never use those for any reason other that eggplant or hydration based discussion, Samsung and Google are gonna hear about this I assure you.

That's pretty impressive for both products, considering what you were attempting to seal and the requirement of holding water under pressurel. I suspect that for waterproofing surfaces and joints that have minimal gaps, along with surfaces that do not flex and expand but remain immobile, the products will last, hopefully through a rainy season. I just ordered the same Gorilla product from Home Depot, as my usual source from Amazon would not arrive till after a significant rain event here in Los Angeles. Thank s for the video.

    @gwrulzmylife 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Round holes are great and all, but fixing real world applications, like cracks in a bucket, the gap is minimal.
For holes, I'd probably do the tape, then spray over the tape.

Good stuff, I just bought a can of Gorilla to treat a section of slide floor on my 5th wheel that I replaced due to rot. I was looking for the fabric that comes stabled to the floor when new, but a local dealer told me they use Gorilla patch and seal on and under the floor. So I will try that and after seeing your video I am confident that it will hold back the moisture under the carpet.

I am surprised either held up as well as they did.
The warping of the boxes likely introduced a crack where water could seep out, I saw that coming with all that water, too much pressure for flimsy cardboard. I wonder how they would have held up at 1/4 full…
The bucket test was interesting. Since only the outside was sprayed I didn’t expect either if them to keep the holes plugged under the pressure from the water. Very neat.

@@Kevin-kf5dn Especially the flexseal box. The flap was open by almost one inch, while the gorilla was touching the second layer of card board, and the spray mostly covered or sealed them. I think the flex seal was only holding the water from the outside spray.

Comparing the 2 boxes isn't a very good method. Before I continue, please understand the context. I am not here to complain or insult or anything like that. I am just providing my own feedback without any hostility.
The issue here is that the experiment isn't controlled enough. 2 cardboard boxes have enough differences and inherent properties to cause the comparison to be more than just 1 spray versus the other. One of them may have gotten less
Coverage than the other, or a flawed application, etc. It feels like after your initial application and curing, an extra step would have been useful: inspect the outcome and check for weak points or incomplete seals, and then provide a few more applications. Those flaps on the inside bottom should have been adhered to the rest of the bottom, as they introduce points of uncertainty. I believe that due to the inherent nature of cardboard boxes, these extra steps would help make the experiment be a more controlled one. You can take the concepts and ideas behind what I said and extract them, and apply them to the process your own way to isolate the comparison down to spray versus spray, so that the boxes themselves won't influence the outcome.
As for the bottles with holes, I believe that the flaw was in your application method. Spraying a hole wouldn't be the way to seal it. The hole should be covered on one end with something that the spray can't adhere to (such as sticker release paper or wax paper, perhaps?), with a piece of waterproof tape larger than the release paper (to seal around the paper), and then spraying on the opposite side of the hole. That way you will have something to hold the fluid across the span of the hole as it sets. After the fluid dries and sets, you can remove the tape and release paper (the idea is that the product wont stick to the release paper and wont be ripped from the hole once you remove the hole-covering release paper), resulting in a securely-attached rubber film sealing the hole. It can afterwards be tested.

I've found using tin foil or chrome adhesive tape, then overspraying with either product can seal many problem areas including window sills that may be breaking down. Chrome adhesive tape is VERY sticky and tough.

I found this video while looking for some kind of spray to spray on my tall, older, wicker plant stands. I’m going to spray them a different color and then seal them somehow to help with water damage. They’ll get wet, I don’t want to be gentle with them and have to be careful with the watering. I’m going to look and see if the Flexseal comes in a clear.

the experiment is interesting as an intellectual exercise, and I know their ads use the Flex seal spray on screening to create a solid barrier, but the holes in screening are much smaller than the ones you drilled. the right tool is needed for the right job, and a spray seal isn't it, in this case. it doesn't really provide any useful comparison in a real world application.
i do like your videos, though, and the flex seal tape comparison on the bucket holes was very compelling.
perhaps compare the products on some actual plumbing pipes; around stripped threads on a sink trap, or cracked PVC.
i have subscribed, and i look forward to seeing more.

I have called flex seal customer service three times. Each time I speak with them they inform me their products do not work together. What that means is I can't use the paste and then paint over it with either the spray paint or the liquid paint. One will not bond to the other. Have you found that to be true? You have showed spraying several coats of the spray paint, which indicates it will bond to itself.

I am not trying to find fault with these products just giving you my experience. I am a master plumber and come across homeowners who have tried to use sprays on leaks (water supply and drainage) . Never works. At best slows it down. The down side is you spend money and time on a futile effort to only have to call a plumber in the end. I will spend even more time and your money dealing with the mess. Most cases i have to completely repipe the area where they used the spray. It takes more time and effort to try with no avail to clean this stuff off. The sprays do have a use but not on your plumbing. When i see this stuff on pipes now i tell my customers it needs to be replaced and in some cases even the sink.

Jeff, your killing me. Your cardboard box test is so full of holes. Meaning it was a horrible thing to test on your end. I like some of your other tests.

The cardboard test was challenging, but duct tape over the bottom and open areas before spraying should have solved the problems.

So personally I prefer the leak stopper rubber flexx as you get four more ounces per can and it's almost a dollar cheaper.
I'm doing up my almost classic truck and some white wall in my tires on a budget so really my main concern is how smooth the overall finish would be once it had dried😊
The technical performance of them I'm not even paying attention I'm just freeze framing in the best lighting at the highest video quality and zooming in to see how it looks😂

I know the gorilla spray is self-leveling, so as long as your tires are flat on the ground, it should work well. Test first.

This was not a good experiment at all. You wasted so much time and silicone. All you had to do is to crack the bottom of the water bottle and apply one coat of the silicone
to see it could seal it. That's it.
