  • Before we move on from the innate immune system, let's go through all the cell types one by one, so that we can better understand them. Let's start with macrophages, which are long-lived phagocytic cells. They play a pivotal role in recognition, phagocytosis, and degradation of cellular debris and pathogens. Let's learn more about them now!

@@Teqnifiiwhy? Dave is university lvl. Kurg is for total laymen. Him and his team have to dumb it down. Dave is good at teaching and your probably not a total layman. Also Dave hires folks as needed. It is the difference of entertainment vs educational. While both are both they focus on slightly different points. In a nut shell, Dave's focus is helping students understand the information. Kurgs focus is helping young and layman understand via fun videos. Wile both are entertaining and educational the detail isn't the same

@@borttorbbq2556 as I say, Kurg is funded by millionaires, so they're going to emphasize anything that drives up hype surrounding products and treatments that investors peddle. I phrased it a little strongly, obviously they're not going to make shit up, but the grain of salt required to watch Kurg is significant enough to merit at least a follow-through internet search.

I think this raises an important point, look how many cells are required for many lives to be lived and they all help us in some way or another and I think this also reflects our social lives as well. We all serve some purpose in society, while that purpose maybe negative in some they still do it and I think it tells us that we need to become immune to our own social problems.

"We all serve some purpose in society"
I can't agree with that. We might all have a role we play, but that does not mean we have a purpose.

Macrophages are also responsible for the permanence of tattoos. The ones residing in the skin eat the ink particles and that's why they don't get flushed out of the body.

Professor thanks for video, however you missed one the most advanced targets on M2 macrophages, which is the mannose receptor CD206. Early in the video you mentioned carbohydrates, but failed to carry through identifying CD206 C-type lectin, primarily present on the surface of macrophages and immature dendritic cells, which will internalize mannose (carbohydrates) delivered using a dextrin spine/backbone, mannose moiety and a Dx radioph or Thx payload like doxy, which is really important in TAMS and other inflammations to minimize offsite toxicity, etc

I watch your videos to help remind myself that I am incredibly ignorant of most of the topics you present, regardless of my frequent consumption of science related content. Please, don't ever make these videos dumbed down to the layman level, as that type of explanation suggests that our understanding of complex things is just something some people figured out, instead of the obvious building knowledge upon knowledge that the learned and determined intelligent minds have worked to understand our world.
