- How's it going BDT squad?
As you know, we have been documenting my brother's B8.5 S4 on the dyno. It's now time to install an upgraded heat exchanger! As I was going through this install, I was a little unimpressed by CTS's lack of instructions, and the O ring situation, but other than that is was a smooth install!
We hope this helps some of you with your next s4 upgrade, if you have any questions let us know down below!
There will be a dyno video coming soon with the result, but until then, Stay Tuned!

Lmao calling me out for an American bolt! Love ya man, keeping my car top notch!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thansk for the video. Just installed my B8 S4 heat exchanger. The elbow is to connect the piping from the downward pipe on the drivers side to the original pipe. I also had to do the ADS cooler install.
How did the install go? Any remarks to be taken in consideration. Waiting my CTS HE to arrive and install it on S4 B8 with ADS
@@evobeshinsky4977 It was super simple. I didn't have to cut anything. Just make sure you get the placement of the cooler right the first time, not too low or high and centered.
All right guys .... 🍻
I'm getting a CTS Turbo HX for my B8.5 SQ5 and was wondering how the CTS Turbo HX is holding up for you guys?
Zero issues 3/4years later. Great product!
So I’m interested in this particular HE just because it has its connections on opposite sides like the OEM but only on the b8 cars cause the b8.5 have them both on the driver side. I’m pretty sure this could effect recovery time with the increased distance & volume of cooolant with the stock cwa-50 pump, all the other HE have them on the driver side.
I will say they had previous versions that were thicker. The new version was thinner, but maybe it's better at dissipating heat.
@@boostdynamictuning well I’ve been in the plumbing & hvac industry for around 6 years so I’m familiar with flow&airlocks an doesn’t make sense to add more length of hose to the system that already heat soaks fast you want to shorten the length if anything especially with the additional volume of coolant in the system I feel the small pump will struggle an I wonder why they decided to make it differently then every one else.
I just bought a CTS heat exchanger. In your opinion is it a good product?? I haven’t had it installed yet
I have seen the merx hx. It did seem thicker but no data to prove difference.
@@boostdynamictuning 👍👍. I appreciate you responding.
How long did it take you to install?
2/3 hours
Maybe a stupid question, but those mounts use self tappers. Why are you drilling?
Send a time stamp please so I know what you're talking about
@@boostdynamictuning Sorry, 5:30.
what tool are you using to pressure test the system? cant find it online..
Matco sold me the tools :)
Why did y'all go CTS over MERC Racing or PLM?
I've run CTS stuff on all my cars. They have high quality products. I will say though. This heat exchanger doesn't look as thick as my first heat exchanger I bought from CTS.
@@boostdynamictuning I also use some CTS products but definitely sticking with Merc for my heat exchanger, may even run their S6 exchanger as apparently that’s become a thing now. Also your brother didn’t want the crash bar blacked out? Anyways, good video man
@@bryanlyle3046 thank you! Apparently the s6 exchbager is amazing. Personally I don't see how, but the data shows it.
My brother is lucky and has a black cover for the crash bar. It came with the front bumper upgrade.
@@boostdynamictuning ah I see that’s convenient, appreciate the responses, keep up the videos!
@@boostdynamictuning and if he changes his mind and ends up wanting a S6 exchanger that would make for one hell of a video comparing a major aftermarket S4 HX compared to an aftermarket S6 HX
Has the heat exchanger a flow direction ? Can you connect it wrongly?
how is this campare to the divorced setup
I can't give you solid comparison as I've never went divorced. Don't want to guide you in the wrong direction. I will say having hx and being dp is a huge difference.
