I haven't seen a bad review for this bike . I'm going to be looking for my first bike soon . I had my heart set on a Bandit or hornet 600 . But then I seen this bike and it's my #1 pick
I had a Bandit 1200 and toured around North America on it in 03. Had an amazing time and loved it. ADV bikes weren't available back then, but I probably would have gone for a CB500X like bike if they were available.
Totally agree about the foot pegs. I’m planning to get a custom seat to raise my body, then raise the handle bars. I’ve been traveling full time for the past 2 months and put over 25000km on it. I’ve had no issues with it. Great bike!!
Did you try a peg lowering kit like from MotoWerks? It lowers more than one inch. We use that with lower pegs from Twisted Throttle on our Versys and no probs so far.
@@jamestaylor8476 It also has least impact on seat height. As long as stock seat height is comfortable, then lowering pegs and raising bars helps most geometry issues.
@@ADVMoto You mentioned versys x300. What would be better first bike. I want to keep it for some time if possible. I heard great things about versys x300 except seat but that can be easily solved. I'm mostly worried about reliability.
Perfect.......I had a BMW R 1200 GS a few years ago.....great bike on the highway....too big and too heavy offroad....simple as that....this Honda CB 500 X will be more suited to Dual Sport guaranteed....Big is not always better.....
Can't agree more. The market and media tend to move headlines toward the ultimate this or that, that can do everything. Fact is they are like shoes. Different shoes for different uses. Bikes like this fall in a sweet spot for many.
Excellent.....I have been riding since I was 17....I'm now 60...my Harley Fatbob is perfect for me in Australia...just a cruiser.....I will buy a Honda CB 500 X for my adventures in Thailand.....perfect for the road conditions and nice and light....Big Dual Sports Adventure bikes are useless.....only good for freeway cruising...other benefits include excellent after market accessories....cheaper service costs...all round a great machine from all the positive reviews...
Its absolutely crazy how much california looks like where i live in the south of spain... i swear you could be driving outside my town hahaha. Well thank you for the review and all the best my scenery brother!
What the hell is with ADV riders thinking they have to stand up everywhere? I’ve race Pro motocross and desert and the only time you stand up is going over whoops and jumps. You can’t ride your bike fast by standing. You have to sit to hit and come out of corners hard. You squat going over whoops and on a straight you’re on your seat tucked for speed. It looks ridiculous seeing a group following each other standing like if they’re on a trials bike. Is it something riders with half ton BMW’s started and caught on?
ADV bike isn’t the same as a motocross bike. You stand on adv bikes through SOME corners. Unlike dirt bikes, they have big tanks and in order to get enough weight on the front tire, you get up on the pegs. You aren’t able to sit way up on the tank like on a dirt bike. Although how you stand on the pegs matters for performance, not talking about just getting a rest or some wind etc...., and most adv riders stand up way too straight.
I’m 73 the only time I stand up on my KLR is when my ASS HURTS OR MY LEGS CRAMP !!! That doesn’t mean I don’t lift my butt when I ride over bumps. OF COURSE IVE NEVER RODE IN THE DAKAR .
I took my driving lessons on a cb500f and it kinda hurt my bum after an hour and my hands from leaning forward. I do love the engine and the build quality so i think the cb500x is the way to go!!
I just picked up a 2019 version in 2023 I was going to get the new version but I just decided to go with the 19 model because it's a little more simple and I do mostly Street riding I just prefer an adventure bike because of the riding position & if I ever do want to take a dirt road I guess the bike can handle it. I had the Africa twin adventure sport but it was just too big & heavy didn't need that much of a 🏍️💨 then I picked up a CRF250L rally that's absolutely a stud of a bike I don't know why I got rid of it just not quite enough on the 🛣️... To be honest the 500 feels like the sweet spot I only put the 16 🦷⚙️ & I live in Phoenix people go VERY fast the bikes a little stressed out cruising at 80-85 mph but if you slow down to around 70-75 bike feels perfect. (& Better ⛽ mileage) Some people say it's a little on the heavy side but I think that makes it feel planted & great bike
I found dirt peg s help my DL650 even on the street (rain/wet) , good review would like to try one . Rubber mounted bar s would have to go, it s only a 500 how much can that thing vibrate?
This bike looks like a great way to spend a day, and if you ever get a chance to try those Bridgestone Battlax AX 41 tires, do it. They improve the off-road ride like you wouldn’t believe.
Not an easy decision! I'd base it largely on the type of riding you mostly plan to do. If you're leaning more off pavement and single track, then go 300. If you'll still mostly ride pavement or hard pack with some gravel here and there, the 500 is a great choice.
I rented one in Northern Thailand for a week. It handled the twisting mountainous paved roads great. The gearing for this type of riding was perfect but I would gear it taller for North America. Off road I prefer my KLR 650. I agree the pegs a too high and the instrument panel is hard to read, other than the speedometer and gear indicator. I loved the adjustable windshield. It's easy to ride with sufficient power and wonderful fuel mileage. All in all a great affordable adventure bike.
Hey Rapid, not sure what the question is. They are all good bikes and have their own merits. It really depends on what you want to do. THe CB and V300 are all more highway capable. The RE is a bit slower on the highway, but probably more fun and capable off-road as well as costs 1000 less. Best thing to do is ride them and see which fits you best.
@@ADVMoto Just thinking there needs to be a comparo that looks at all the small displacement adv bikes. On road and off, accessories available, dealer support, cost. All that good stuff.
Wow, amazing routes you have in CA! I've had my 500F for less than a year and as much as I wanna like it the ergonomics are not as fitting as I'd hoped for longer rides (too cramped at 5'10 and wind blasts are more than I expected). It's my first bike and I just got my license last year so no dealer in their right mind would let me take one out and no demo rides here in Ontario. Trading in for the X later in the spring! Taking a bit of a financial hit but live and learn.
Agree, it's really the street bike pegs. The bars and saddle can always be changed out. If the pegs can be lowered about 1.5 to 2 inches it would help alot!
Have you rode the bmw 310gs? Wondering how it compares Love my GS. I was not sure between the GS and the cb500x but went with the BMW due to less weight and similar power. Both seem to be awesome capable bikes!
Have only done a couple minutes on the 310 but for around the same price, it would be hard to beat the build quality of the CB500X. I love thumpers, but parallel twins are by favorite multi-cylinder configuration...esp for higher speed travel. The 500X isn't as light, but you may find that and it's wind protection an advantage on highways. It really depends on what you're riding needs are. Lots of good bikes out now!
@@ADVMoto what is the top speed on it? Mine is right at 99mph on the GS, comfortable 72mph on interstate and wind hasn't been an issue but I am upgrading to a full sized windshield Soon!
@@SolivagantJourney To be honest, we never got to open it up to top speed and those numbers are not released by Honda. 200lb rider with no luggage I was doing 65mph at around 5k in top gear. Redline is around 8.5k. Any way you slice it, a good multi-cylinder motor with about 50% more displacement (the 500 is actually a 470cc) will be less stressed at highway speeds. Smoother too...
@@ADVMoto oh okay I gotcha. Well I would think the stress is probably about equal to the GS bc the GS doesn't have to pull as much weight. As in the power to weight ratio is comparable but regardless both should be awesome bikes!!! Thanks for the info
