      @@paullevine1813 As I remember the story that Tele was given to Mike Stern, from whom it was stolen.
      Maybe you’re not familiar with him but Stern is an AMAZING fusion player, and Roy’s influence can be found in a lot of Stern’s records.

      Hello, greetings from Germany. Is he the tambourine man from "down by the River" 1971?

  • @codaalive5076

    Getting pick at angle for harmonics every time is practically impossible for other people than Roy. Never heard another guitarist playing wah like sounds without wah, he used to do it on other recordings with standard Telecaster...

    • @knightfall9394
      @knightfall9394 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you obviously don’t listen to a lot of guitarists both gatton and steve morse do the wah thing with their tone controls
      and as far as your comment about harmonics billy gibbons gets those with ease

      @@knightfall9394 or got very excited by Roy's pathos, sound he got from Telecaster and modified Fender amps, certain songs out of this world although not many because he was much better guitarist than songwriter. Gibbons is not my cup of tea and sounds completely different, as far as i know he doesn't play with fingers, it is also this "high gain" sound heard very often. As a kid i felt in love with Jeff Beck's playing (first was concert with Ian Hammer), Slash for Gibson sound, Daniel Lanois is great producer making wonders despite not being very good at playing, etc. Nothing is wrong with being too excited at times, thanks for mentioning others.

      @saltykrug 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      You're damned right, he could show off anytime he wanted to. Fucker was flat ass amazing. What killed most of us musicians was knowing the guy didn't use any effects pedals but got all of those different sounds out of his hands some how.

    • @danielschaeffer1294
      @danielschaeffer1294 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@saltykrug Years ago I recall reading in an article in Rolling Stone that somebody asked Roy what he thought of Jimi. His answer? “Son, if you can play, you don’t need war toys. If you can’t, war toys won’t help.” He was pulling the interviewer’s leg, of course. He loved Jimi, but he was a very different kind of player. .

      @@danielschaeffer1294 Roy turned his amp up as loud as it could go. Put it behind the drum kit and faced it away from the crowd. That was his “tone”. But truthfully his tone was in his fingers. He was an absolute genius. Rest easy Roy. Sweet dreams.
