This was great! A few tips from a makeup artist: -please don't curl your lashes AFTER applying mascara! Even if it's dry, it can break or pull out lashes -Don't store an old mascara wand in an old tube, the tube can contain lots of bacteria and is almost impossible to clean completely -expiry dates are more of a guideline, but if the product is really old/the formula or scent changes, please get rid of it! -that palette of bronzer/highlight can double as a great basic eyeshadow palette! -even with acne, only a small portion of your face really needs full coverage. Better to start light and build up on the spots where its needed :)
it is a bit disheartening that a lot of “clean” and “sustainable” beauty brands have limited shade ranges and products that wouldn’t work for people who aren’t white :/ foundations need different undertones as well as shades. hair care as well! Not all hair types can handle the same stuff. I may just have to remedy this by starting my own brand🤷🏾♀️ love your channel❤️
I love that you stress that it’s okay to use up your existing products! I feel like so many people when they switch to “zero waste” just throw all the old stuff away so that they can start over. It’s really sad! I’ve been on this journey for about a year and I have stopped calling it zero waste because I agree with you in our society it’s impossible to live completely zero waste. I try to make smart decisions about what I buy so that it is as sustainable as I can acquire while still being in my budget. Again thank you for putting out reasonable videos that show how easy it is to live more sustainable.
Truthfully, same! I really don't like the term "zero waste" but as someone trying to contribute to sustainable living online, I felt like using the term is best for SEO but I'm trying my best to show others that sustainable living is really just about thinking outside the box, not striving for a number of items in your trash 💛THANK YA for being a magical human and caring for mama earth! Because I definitely know it can feel overwhelming in this world of others not caring quite as much. But we ARE making a difference! x
I hate when “green” companies package in unnecessary plastic! I love the Shea moisture black soap but it’s always wrapped in plastic :( I wish they’d just use paper. It’s still less packaging than a bottle or something but it just bugs me
write them!! I started doing that with companies and it worked once, they used paper for a product that was completely wrapped in plastic! 😊 the more people do that the more companies will think about changing stuff like that
Random question about the Shea moisture soap... do you notice it leaving a film on your shower floor? Ever since I started using it I notice a very thick film of soap scum on my shower. I’ve never noticed it before. It’s my most favorite facial soap and that’s the only downside.
ECOTOOLS! They use recycled or recyclable materials for their makeup brushes and other tools, and they are vegan with synthetic bristles and they are so beautiful. That would be my advice for anyone that needs any new makeup brushes. The one fault might be that they use quite a lot of packaging, but a lot of it is also recyclable, and you can get a set of brushes in the same packege, so no need to waste the packaging for every brush separately.
@@hopefortheworld5296 Where I've bought them most of it is cardboard. But yes, as I said before, the plastic might be a deal breaker for some. Honestly, I have never found any makeup brushes that are sold without packaging, they are after all personal hygiene products that I wouldn't want on my face if someone had touched them before me. And for me it is a lot that they offer products that are made of already recycled materials that I will use for the rest of my life if I take care of them. I wouldn't buy packaging free ones anyway if they were any less high-quality than those.
SO ECO brushes are made of bamboo & their packaging is made of recycled paper & their ‚plastic‘ window is made out of CORN STARCH!! you can get it at TK Maxx or at Amazon i think :)
This video makes you sit and and realize how many actual problems there are in the world, but it is so refreshing to see someone so transparent and open and their trials trying to navigate them. From inclusivity, to low waste, to accessibility, you hit points on all of them rather than only pointing out packaging or shopping local and completely disregarding shade ranges, etc-which are also equally important. It’s overwhelming to tackle all of these issues, but you’re doing a darned good job and it’s wonderful too see how far your routine has come since your last makeup vid! 💕💄
Also, I work with Aveda and all Aveda products are ethically sourced and made in the main manufacturing plant In Minneapolis with 100% wind power! They also have as much of their packaging to be PCR plastic if it does come in plastic! As a cosmetologist navigating this world is hard but Aveda is certainly trying to help!
Urban Decay makes eye pencils that have a tin cap and are wrapped in cardboard! They're a bit more expensive than drugstore stuff but they're smooth as butter, long-lasting and they have SO many shades. And they're cruelty-free! (BUT they are owned by L'Oréal unfortunately)
@@theopowell8815 NYX and Urban Decay are both owned by L’Oréal which is known for testing on animals, however the products from NYX and Urban Decay are all cruelty free.
There is a brush company called So Eco, they are cruelty-free and vegan. All their packaging is made using sustainable and biodegradable materials. And as a bonus they are very affordable, no brush is more than 10 dollars! I can guarantee they are amazing quality too, I would highly recommend them :)x
Hi guys! Just a quick note about *mascara bacteria.* OF COURSE you need to be careful when re-using your tubes! I sanitized mine very intensely before using it. I thought that was a given so I forgot to mention it. DEFINITELY be careful! 💛 But I also don't know why I thought it was okay to suggest that on the internet because there are a loooot of people on here and something can EASILY go wrong. Your eyes are VERY IMPORTANT and an infection of some sort is no joke. *I take back recommending it* and would like to recommend either cleaning your brush and storing it in something more sanitary of your choice, or using another more sanitary method that works for you! I definitely wasn’t planning on using this wand forever! It's just what has worked to get me to start consistently using the product for the last couple months (I've owned it for a year but was still using up old mascaras, and only started using it consistently for the last few). I'd like to find something better that is reusable and more sanitary for sure. That’s why I said in the video something along the lines of “I don’t know how long this brush will last but it’s working for now” x
@@alonememe I own 3 products total in my life that use beeswax (one mascara, one lip product, and one cream. And they're the only stereotypically 'non vegan' things I have in my life and each of them will last me YEARS!) and it was NOT a decision I made lightly. I did a LOT of research before I decided to do so. There were a bunch of factors that lead me to do this, and it was an ethical decision that I made for the bees and the other animals and our planet. I don't want to go into depth about my reasonings, because I feel it's best that everyone make their own ethical decision. I don't want to be a human on the internet who tells others how to live their life ethically. Especially because this one is a bit on the fence ethically. There are positives and minuses, and I just decided the positives outweighed the negatives. I suppose in sharing these products, I am ethically encouraging a little bit, but I just felt like if I made a whole video on it, people would just jump on what I was doing without doing their own research, just because I had justified it. And I wanted to let others make their own decision. I opened up about this on instagram a little over a year ago, and was surprised to hear that out of the comments I received, around 95% of those who responded and were also vegan, agreed with me. So I know I'm not alone in this one. There are definitely a lot of people who identify as vegan and incorporate bee product, and most of them use more than I do. You can take the "vegan" word away from me if you'd like, I don't need a word to define me. Because at the end of the day, the reason I chose to live the veg lifestyle was to be the kindest I can be to the planet and the animals, and my research showed me that it is more beneficial to support *VERY SMALL* quantities of bee product than not to economically support it at all. But again, it's up to each individual! Until zero waste vegan items are more widely available, and vegan wax is made more locally/sustainably/durable, this is a decision I am okay with. But I also think it's good to support small quantities of bee product financially and from the RIGHT PLACES to support a healthy bee population, so I dunno how I'd feel when that time came. Also, as vegans, let's be real, there are bigger problems out there than the bee industry, and our focus needs to be on ending the animal holocaust in factory farming for sentient non-insects. Don't forget there are people out there who are still eating animals multiple times a day, without realizing their impact on the planet and the animals. We don't need to attack people who are already on your side and nit pick at this one topic, we have to get a move on for the bigger picture. That doesn't mean that some of the cruel practices used in bee keeping aren't cruel, because there are some bad farms out there who are (and I would never support those ones. I suppose I was very trusting of the two brands I mentioned here.) BUT, i'm just saying haha.
@@SedonaChristina Wow, thank you for that honest and very detailed answer. I get your point of view, but I don't agree with it - for me being vegan comes before being zero waste (less waste to be exact). But I understand your arguments and I respect you for the fact that they are all considered and thought thru. I just was confused and wanted to know more about this inaccuracy of being vegan and using bees wax, that's all. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and angle on this topic :)
I love watching your videos so much. STOP, YOU ARE NOT RAMBLING!!! I appreciate how you are such a free flowing easy breezy sustainability/ ethical living educator (?) I never feel stressed or insulted or like I am not doing enough when I watch your content. I am aware of many things and have found my way around the healthy impact maze, as should everyone at their own pace if it suits them, but watching your videos feels like chilling with a friend. You share and we share and hopefully they will share, too.
I am a work in progress myself. Last week I bought my car wax in a metal tin as opposed to a plastic bottle. Every little bit helps to live in a clean environment.
Just looked at my makeup box and felt sad, seeing all my makeup covered in plastic 🥵 Thanks for this video , I’m trying to use less plastic ! One day at a time
Bésame cosmetics, which is the mascara she used, also has wood and metal lip brushes/beauty tools. They also have cream blush in metal tins as well, which is really wonderful. Usually their packaging consists of paper boxes and paper packing that you can use and/or recycle. Their brand is also very cruelty free/vegan/and a lot of the items gluten free. Idk if this helps but thought I’d share.
I like your attitude. A lot of approaches are like “if you can’t fit your trash for your life in a jar then you’re bad”. You are realistic, minimal trash options which realistically is all most of us can do,
found you through this video and love your channel! I'm by no means zero waste, but I've been slowly working towards changing habits to become more so. I actually switched to the No Bar conditioner you recommended in your hair care video! So thanks for the recommendation!
Ahhhh THANK YOU! 💛And also thank you for making changes! It's defo not about being perfect, and every swap you make is suhhh powerful! Thank you for giving a sh*t hehe 💛💛💛 I hope you love the conditioner! x
I'm really glad that you made it a point to recommend using up what you have. I've been trying for the last two years or so to not buy new makeup unless I totally run out of something and I still have so much! I wish I had a beautiful, clean zero waste makeup collection, but I still have a lot of plastic packaging and conventional products. This video was a good reminder that using up what I have is still much better for the environment than buying new makeup at the rate I used to.
A great way to recycle old mascara wands is to thoroughly clean them and then send them to animal rescue centers! They can use the wands brush out debris from the animal's fur.
Hey guys! If you are looking for other sustainable perfume brands check out The 7 Virtues. I work at Sephora and we just started carrying them. everything is vegan, cruelty free, organic and fair trade. I also really like this brand because they are female owned (yay ShEOs!!!) Also all of their oils are sourced from countries recovering from war or sickness, helping to rebuild the culture. They r so cool!! My fav scent is Vanilla woods but Rose Amber is really pretty too! Thanks Christina!! I slowly transitioning too a low waste lifestyle and you have o many good tips and tricks!
Oh my goodness YAY!!!! I love that Sephora is making clean beauty more accessible to people who wouldn't otherwise go out of their way to find it! YESSSS! I'll have to check out 7 Virtues! Thank you!! x
Thanks so much for doing all the legwork and research to help those of us interested in going cruelty-free! I moved to Besame cake mascara a few months ago and it's a learning curve for sure, but I love it! It's also easier to transport. I think Physician's Formula is also cruelty-free, although they do use plastic packaging. I use toothpaste tabs, bamboo toothbrushes, and refillable floss containers! One step at a time.
This is so interesting i've never thought about how much waste is made from makeup... Thanks for sharing! I also have never had my eyebrows done before haha. New subbie!
I think the point is a lot of people don't feel as confident without their makeups on. It's great that makeup can enhance your features and give you a confidence boost. However, you should also know without makeup, you are not a "lesser" you. Your friends like you for who you are as a whole person. You should absolutely feel at ease with yourself and be just as confident on the days you don't feel like wearing makeup.
I have yet to see any of their makeup, but they make good frangrances i have got to give a cool sniff sniff to in the store. Btw always remember to buy local first!
Eco tools and Elate cosmetics both make bamboo brushes that are a little more biodegradable than other brushes! Brushes will literally last a lifetime though, so I don't worry so much about what they're made of and just make sure I take good care of them so that I'm not throwing out brushes regularly, if ever. Thank you for this video! I subscribed to your channel as I'm looking to reduce my carbon and waste footprint
I love the beauty and simplicity of your makeup routine! I also use and love Beseme cake mascara, but I use mine a little differently. 😊 I take my cake out of the tin, and with my clean fingers, apply a drop or 2 of water right onto the cake. I use a clean, dry spooly/mascara wand to spin into the wet cake, picking up the mascara. After applying the mascara to my lashes, I use my gentle bar soap, water, and my fingers, I wash the mascara off, tap excess water off, and allow to dry until next time. It's very easy to travel with the clean spooly as well! 😁
I am so glad I am not the only one that has issues with learning to use sustainable mascara! I got one and just it would get everywhere... Thanks to you I will start practicing again! I have one that is similar, but it didn't come up with any instructions or anything, didn't know you need a little water
I’ve recently started using almond ash to fill in my eyebrows I literally take a lighter and burn the end of a almond and use a brow brush and brush the ash on my brows I saw it on beauty hacks on my snap story but I love it!
Pure Anada has a fantastic mascara in a metal tube (with very little plastic =the wand and probably the inside of the tube, I'm not sure). Gives that natural lashes but better look. It's my absolute favorite!
This was so helpful!! Since I’m only buying vegan/cruelty-free makeup now, it’s been a struggle to find ZW/low-impact options that meet those standards. Thanks for all the tips! 😘
First video of yours I’ve watched and I really liked it! Also I know it can be bad to use expired products but to everyone getting on the whole “using your makeup up that you already have” HONESTLY we ALL know we use expired products all the time. Humans aren’t perfect and using expired products won’t suddenly harm you without you noticing. If you notice a reaction then stop using the expired product. If not, then I’m sure you’ll be alright if you use an expired moisturizer or expired eyeshadows. Just a thought and my own personal note
EXACTLY! We all do it, and we all know it hahaha! Obviously don't use something that smells or looks funky at this point, but like let's be real, we should have common sense hahaha! Sending ya heaps and heaps of luv on this fine Tuesday morning! x
No one is pretending to be perfect but things can have very dangerous bacteria that you can't see or smell. so using expired products is dangerous especially if you arent sanitizing them with alcohol.
This is me stopping the vid to tell you... DO NOT PLAY WITH THE SHAPE OF YOUR BROWS!!! They are the most perfect shape and I will hunt ya down if you mess with them! No, not really, but just don't do it! They're my favorite part of your channel! 😂😂😂
I was thinking the same. In her teens, my sister over tweezed her thick eyebrows and now she has really thin eyebrows because the hair won't grow back. I once had a bad brow waxing job and they took off too much, and it never grew back the same. At most, clean up little strays that are way outside of "the pack" but leave the basic shape alone.
I love the Gabriel foundation too! I don’t find it very full coverage but I prefer light coverage anyway. I’ve used tons of natural foundation brands and actually really like this one a lot.
Sedona Christina, The foundation you mentioned has titanium dioxide in it, which is a very toxic chemical- used in white paints and lots of cosmetics- guys google it, the recent studies showed that some toothpaste companies had been adding it to reach maximum whitening effect and it caused cancer. Also, even if it doesn't bring lots of damage when applied to skin (since you are not inhaling or ingesting it), the titanium dioxide form they use in production is nanoparticle form - this form cause big damage to animals and nature around the production factory since it gets exposed to air and gets inhaled more by animals, rather then when in nature the dioxide in a bigger size and can't be inhaled that easily.
thank you so much for this video! I am on a zero waste journey and my makeup collection has been the hardest part for me. Obviously i'm using things up first but I want to find low/zero waste alternative to replace them with once I run out that ACTUALLY work. This video gave me some good ideas. The only other problem is that I live in New Zealand so sometimes the good brands don't ship to my address, or charge excessive shipping fees :(
ohh yeah i know that’s tough, hopefully you’ve found some good low waste beauty swaps but if you need any more recommendations, head over to my channel, i review lots of low waste beauty
I'm so happy you made this video, I need to get new products because I ran out of a few and was looking for more sustainable options and this was definitely helpful. So far I've switched to aloe vera gel for eyebrow gel and made a brow powder/eyeshadow with activated charcoal and cacao powder :D
I've been trying to cut down on my waste over the last couple of years and this video actually made me feel like it is far more achievable than I had previously thought for my level of makeup. You did good, girl! Also, since you were talking about the term 'zero waste' being unrealistic I was wondering if you've heard of the low impact movement, it's basically following the principles of sustainable living/minimal waste/less consumption whilst admitting that zero waste is unattainable (:
I honestly found this super helpful. Recommendations aside, this is a super great reminder of mindfulness and gentleness for ourselves and the planet. Much love!
I love the idea of melting the soap into a tin like that! That’s really the only think that was holding me back from using the soap brow technique everyday, thanks! 😊
Thank you for this! I literally did not even think about how wasteful mascara is, which I go through tons of, but omg it dries up and gets thrown away and there’s no way to recycle those tubes, if thousands are getting sold that is so much plastic out there! Will definitely look into cake mascara!
I’ve been looking for swaps for when I run out of my makeup! Thank you so much for the video. It was super helpful. You’ve been so helpful in my journey to lower my waste. ❤️
Please do not bother messing with your eyebrows.....they are beautiful and im jealous of them!! I love the shape, your natural colour! You are very lucky that you DONT have to shape them; ive messed mine up so many times then had to go through growing them back out.
I know that it isn't exactly beauty related, but I am super excited to announce that plastic shopping bags are now BANNED in New York State! A lot of people are complaining about it (and you can tell where their priorities are at), but this is just step one to cutting back on plastic and waste. I can't wait til things fast forward a year from now to see just how much it has helped!
I'm fairly certain that style of mascara you use now is how mascara was originally used back in the day. It's neat to see it used that way today. I may make the switch and keep my fave wand like you did. 💜
Tj Max has good deals on eco tool brushes sometimes and some makeup gurus I follow get their brushes at art supply stores! Love young blood mineral makeup and 100% pure too! Def will try the soap brow, never heard of that! Great video!!!
I used to have skin like urs. I have excellent skin now. I used raw honey to wash my face everyday (if I had makeup on I removed the make up first). Once or twice a week I would do a honey brown sugar scrub. For the breakouts I would use baking soda mixed with water to make a paste put on blemish; let dry and repeat every day till gone. I mixed in a few other things as well but generally thats what worked. Thanks for the video!
Hi, I like using Vaseline on my brows, after bathing, and before makeup. I recently discovered Vaseline after a recommendation from a dermatologist... and I like it for my whole body, and I love it. Maybe not so "green" but it works and no smell or inflammation from it.
I came across your channel just now! And I would not have guessed that you do not get your eyebrows done. They are BEAUTIFUL! I don’t get mine done either. Just once lol I got them waxed and I regretted that immediately.
Sis you taught me some shit! i f-ing love this type of makeup vibe because i dont wear a ton of makeup and i save everything and im always trying to give things a second life. im obsessed with packaging and im definitely trying that solid mascara trick
Your eyelids are amazing. I’m so envious. I have the worst hooded eyelids which I never had up until about a hear ago. But anyways. Once I use up what I got I’m making the switch. Gunna be hard since I don’t wear much makeup anymore. But that’s why I love this look u did. Very simple and pretty
If you wanted to decrease how much makeup you own you could also tint your brows and lashes! (* I'll be doing that soon and I'm super excited) Also, for scars and blemishes I've started using Burt's Bees herbal complexion stick. I've gotten rid of some of the scars I've had for years in almost a month! Worth a try and wonderful video ☺️
the eco stuffs advices are so incredible! sometimes I do have concerns about the new eyeshadow but for now I feel there’s just too much same shades, we don’t literally need to buy that much pallet just because one or two shades in that pallet pops up my mind!
New here so not sure if you’ve covered this, but L’occitane does makeup recycling now. They take any brands, so you can just drop off the plastic part of the makeup you have there.
Finding an spf that is zero waste has been a struggle for me too. I have very sensitive skin, and have to avoid coconut oil if I’m putting it on my face, because it makes me break out so badly! So far, all of the zero waste spf’s I’ve found have coconut oil. 😒
My sister makes her own. She uses bees wax. That I know she doesn't add coconut oil for sure, but I'm not sure what else she puts in it, but it works wonders. I also know that carrot seed essential oil when diluted is spf 28-40. It has antioxidants that help protect skin cells. I hope this helps.
Jacqueline Aguirre spf is really important and skin cancer shouldn’t be taken lightly. Due to not knowing how effective homemade spf would be (not burning isn’t a good measure because you could still be getting uva exposure which is dangerous without burning) I wouldn’t recommend home made spf
Glad to see I am not the only one trying to find more sustainable makeup and personal care products. In terms of shade, there are some brands that have a wider range, like RMS, Kjaer Weiss or Alima Pure. Those three brands are quite good sustainability wise.... RMS has quite a few products in glass with metal caps containers. Kjaer Weiss products all come in refillable containers. And Alima Pure's new range also comes in refillable containers. As for brushes, I like the Urban Decay brushes which at least the last time I purchased were made from recycled plastic and aluminum. Otherwise, Ecotools are relatively good (although the brush fibers are plastic) with bamboo and recycled aluminum handles. Any other brush that is just bamboo or wood with goat or pony hair would also be sustainable, but obviously does not work for vegans.
I love that you and I are the same with mascara - I have always been particular with my mascaras too and looove the dramatic look. I have been curious for a while to try the Besame and as my mascara from Elate just finished I think it's time to give it a try.
eyebrow pomades can also be good for an eco brow option! Just look for one with a glass container and a metal lid. The only downside is just buying a eyebrow angle brush
Thank you for making this video!! I am in the process of using up not only beauty products but all bathroom products before getting new zero waste items!!!! Much love
I honestly don’t think you even need foundation, ur skin is so beautiful. I stopped wearing foundation becuz it didn’t look like real skin and now I just use some concealer, liner, mascara and lip stick. The lesser the better for me ;))
Most of rms’s products come in glass jars and are pretty good in my experience. They’re especially good for lip products or if you’re looking for a dewy look. They’re also multi use so you don’t have to buy so many products
How have I never noticed that your eyelashes are so long?! They're so pretty! 😍 And that mascara looks like a great alternative to plastic ones. I'll have to add it to my running list of replacements for when I finish up my current products
Aveda is known for using natural ingredients, also all of their packaging for hair skin and makeup is either glass or recycled plastic or cardboard, I know their eye pencils come in little cardboard boxes. Aveda is awesome 👌🏼
love this video... I'm telling you this for experience, DON'T do anything with your eyebrows, I did it on my wedding because it was part of the makeup package and my brows are not the same anymore
I use pretty much exclusively Elate Cosmetics now as I recently fell in love with them, the bamboo/glass packaging is great and they ship with paper or recyclable plastic packing materials! Also I’ve always had acne and oily skin and their makeup is ideal for my skin personally.
U can use a spoon to curl your lashes . My mom used to work with a model and eyelash curlers weren't a thing yet . So she would use a spoon and it's so simple too.
wish i could give this video more than one like :,) this planet NEEDS people who are willing share their tips about living a more eco-friendly lifestyle. thank you.
Pretty soon I'm going to make time to binge-watch most things on your channel lol I'm seeing so many videos I want to click on but don't have time at the moment lol. I love it so far!
Please don't use the old tube! Bacteria can build up in there, and is almost impossible to clean out. I use the Besame mascara, and the reason it's hygenic is that you can clean the wand after each use. I really enjoyed this vid, just want everyone to be safe. Styes and eye infections are no joke!
I totally get what you're saying! I clean my tube out once a month with a cleaning brush and I do so really in depth to make sure I remove everything! I thought that was a given so I must not have mentioned that 🙈
I'm really glad to see a lot of people commenting about this because when bigger youtubers unknowingly spread dangerous practices it gives me so much anxiety thinking about all the people who do that and think its okay
Haaa, I just recommended Besame Cake Mascara on another video of you discussing the Elate mascara. So embarrassing. Of course you've tried it! And you even do what I do, using your old mascara wand (although supposedly one shouldn't store these in the old tubes). Your eyelashes look amazing in this vid! Anyhow, I know most "makeup people" on this platform would freak out about that hand-me-down brush, but honestly... So long as you're cleaning, sanitising, it's not shedding its fibres, and you're happy with the result/don't want or need an MUA-quality finish (make-up doesn't have to be perfect for everyday unless you want it to be), then it's fine! Keep on using beat-to-death brushes to be more sustainable IMO. I honestly *don't* see cause to send that to landfill, unless it really, really, meets no more make-up needs. But even then one could repurpose it for cleaning or something that I'm not clever enough to come up with. I just think this is SO refreshing in a world of beauty videos/commentators that are incredibly judgemental about anyone owning anything other than perfect brushes. I never see creators using brushes that look imperfect or old in any way. Not even for their own make-up. Maybe they're just hiding away in a drawer somewhere, but I can't imagine they see any use if they get new ones so often. I dunno. I get the logic for an MUA naturally, but I just don't think it matters to Sedona, and that's the point. I don't think it would matter to a lot of people. People who aren't very invested in make-up and just want to even out their skin tone or add colour to their lips. Dunno if I'm making sense. Way too long a ramble to communicate that I love something.
Brow powders and pomades are also really good options because they last for so long! I have a two year old brow pomade that I'm only just getting close to finishing
So excited to try some of these products when mine are used up which may be a few years 🤪 because I don't wear it that often. You have a beautiful end product. Thanks for sharing!
I stopped wearing makeup due to the fact that I didn’t like how it used animals products &/or tested on them &/or was not environmentally friendly (green product & green package). However, I really miss wearing makeup somedays and would like the option without feeling like I’m adding to all the bad things in this world. When I used to were makeup it was minimal as I would only use some eye shadow and mascara. Can’t wait to see what you have for these options. Now onto your video! 👁👁
You can spray rubbing alcohol over your eyeshadows etc. So they will last even longer. The expire-date is ment for the "very worst conditions", e.g. relating to temperature etc.
This was great! A few tips from a makeup artist:
-please don't curl your lashes AFTER applying mascara! Even if it's dry, it can break or pull out lashes
-Don't store an old mascara wand in an old tube, the tube can contain lots of bacteria and is almost impossible to clean completely
-expiry dates are more of a guideline, but if the product is really old/the formula or scent changes, please get rid of it!
-that palette of bronzer/highlight can double as a great basic eyeshadow palette!
-even with acne, only a small portion of your face really needs full coverage. Better to start light and build up on the spots where its needed :)
Yeah I was thinking about the expiration thing when she mentioned the eyeshadow that she has had for years.
Rutele and the lip chap she used on her hands before putting it on her lips 🤢🤮

But we ARE making a difference! x
It's not impossible, everyone just continues to live in a city mindset instead of buying things from local people and scavenging from the earth!
I hate when “green” companies package in unnecessary plastic! I love the Shea moisture black soap but it’s always wrapped in plastic :( I wish they’d just use paper. It’s still less packaging than a bottle or something but it just bugs me
EcoTools too have horrible packaging, it's kinda sad :(
Audrey ugh i love those soaps too but hate the plastic!
write them!!
I totally agree!!! 💛
Vanity planey do to! But yeah ecotools are a great brand!
Yes but they package everything heavily in plastic. Can someone please recommend a better option?
I’ve bought eco tools brushes, I do like them. However not all the packaging mine has come in is recyclable..
Amma K I was going to say this! My powder brush finally died (tragic... long story) and I got eco tools and omg. So good.
Ooooooh! THANK YOU! I’ll have to check them out! 💛
Eco tools? I can't find anything for SO ECO :(
Sophia Loren and target
and walmart!!
Sophia Loren and ULTA
Isn’t it about time ALL beauty companies stopped using so much packaging?! - especially plastic!
YESSSSSS! I feel things changing for the better (very) slowly, but surely. I’m hopeful for the future!
@@hannaholenik6207 I looked this brand up and it seems legit. I like how they even publish reports of their sustainability for every couple years!!
@@SacredCrone they are really good liners. It stays in place.
I'm a little out of the loop, what's wrong with L'oreal?
theo powell they test on animals 😔
@@theopowell8815 NYX and Urban Decay are both owned by L’Oréal which is known for testing on animals, however the products from NYX and Urban Decay are all cruelty free.
There is a brush company called So Eco, they are cruelty-free and vegan. All their packaging is made using sustainable and biodegradable materials. And as a bonus they are very affordable, no brush is more than 10 dollars! I can guarantee they are amazing quality too, I would highly recommend them :)x
Ahhhh omg I need to check them out! THANK YOU! 💛
“Allow yourself time to figure it out & you will” ooo girl that’s my new mantra ✨
hehe 💛💛💛
We all out here slowly learning and growing and that's whats important, right? It's about the longterm. Sending ya heaps and heaps of luv! x
Hi guys! Just a quick note about *mascara bacteria.* OF COURSE you need to be careful when re-using your tubes! I sanitized mine very intensely before using it. I thought that was a given so I forgot to mention it. DEFINITELY be careful! 💛
But I also don't know why I thought it was okay to suggest that on the internet because there are a loooot of people on here and something can EASILY go wrong.
Hey guys, you can clean & sanitize your tools with alcohol.
So you're using mascara with bees wax but still call yourself a vegan? I'm confused.
@@alonememe Sending ya heaps of luv! I totally know what you mean though! It's SUCH a hard topic. It really drove me nuts for a long time 💛🙈
I love watching your videos so much.
Just looked at my makeup box and felt sad, seeing all my makeup covered in plastic 🥵
Thanks for this video ,
I’m trying to use less plastic !
Idk if this helps but thought I’d share.
aestheticallyaspiring where can buy the cosmetics?
aestheticallyaspiring
It’s also based on vintage makeup
@@Lovfaby online, and they also occasionally pop up at Sephora :)
The mascara is one of their only vegan products unfortunately but I have been eyeing their mascara for a while now.
Yes. I’m going to work on this too.
New subbie!
I really love her channel bc she has accepted that she is in no way an expert and just tries to do her best
I think the point is a lot of people don't feel as confident without their makeups on. It's great that makeup can enhance your features and give you a confidence boost. However, you should also know without makeup, you are not a "lesser" you. Your friends like you for who you are as a whole person. You should absolutely feel at ease with yourself and be just as confident on the days you don't feel like wearing makeup.
in addition, lush cosmetics has a wide range of low waste / zero waste make-up.
You’re one of the prettiest people ive ever stumbled across on TH-cam oh my god wtf😭😍❤️❤️
Origins makeup counters takes all kinds of makeup empties and I believe they give you something in return for recycling!
oooooh! I love hearing that! Maybe I'll try some of their things in the future. Thank you! 💛
Do they take other brands' containers?
This was so helpful!! Since I’m only buying vegan/cruelty-free makeup now, it’s been a struggle to find ZW/low-impact options that meet those standards. Thanks for all the tips! 😘
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! TOTALLY AWESOME VIDEO!!!! A MUST-WATCH!!!! GREAT VIDEO AND THANKS FOR SHARING!!!!
Oh how amazing! I’ve been wanting to start a channel based on sustainable beauty brands this is so great
First video of yours I’ve watched and I really liked it!
Awe hahaha! THANK YOU! Well now I definitely can't touch them haha 💛🙈
I have been looking for a new foundation for the LONGEST time! I’m gonna give Gabriel a try... thank you!!
So glad I could help! 💛
I love the positivity and the encouragement to make progress. I’m not zero waste but I like the idea of taking steps toward it or to at least try.
I honestly found this super helpful. Recommendations aside, this is a super great reminder of mindfulness and gentleness for ourselves and the planet. Much love!
Thank you! Sending ya so much love right back 💛
I love the idea of melting the soap into a tin like that!
For zero waste mascara i highly recommend La bouche rouge or the Izzy zero waste mascara! Both have refill options
I’ve been looking for swaps for when I run out of my makeup! Thank you so much for the video. It was super helpful. You’ve been so helpful in my journey to lower my waste. ❤️
New viewer , your super sweet self love pep talk in the intro has gained a new subscriber 💜 Thank you for being a breath of fresh air 🥰
Omg yesssss please do a video on making your own setting sprays ❤️❤️❤️
yay! i've been waiting for a video regarding makeup for so long!
Hope it was helpful! 💛
Sis you taught me some shit! i f-ing love this type of makeup vibe because i dont wear a ton of makeup and i save everything and im always trying to give things a second life. im obsessed with packaging and im definitely trying that solid mascara trick
Love your philosophy and self love. Plus great recommendation of products, thanks for sharing:)
Worth a try and wonderful video ☺️
thank you!! you are on fire with these uploads recently
the eco stuffs advices are so incredible! sometimes I do have concerns about the new eyeshadow but for now I feel there’s just too much same shades, we don’t literally need to buy that much pallet just because one or two shades in that pallet pops up my mind!
New here so not sure if you’ve covered this, but L’occitane does makeup recycling now. They take any brands, so you can just drop off the plastic part of the makeup you have there.
First video i am seeing of you, subscribed lets go! You seem so freaking awesome! Definitely need more of this in my life!!!!
I know elate makes some AMAZING brushes. I’ve had mine for two years and they’ve lasted with gentle washes ❤️ love what you’re sharing though!
This is something I never really thought about as a makeup love and environmentalist. Thanks!!
I've never heard of that kind of mascara, I'm definitely going to try! Thanks so much for sharing!
For sunscreen SPF, I like the brand Mad Hippie. It is a little 'white' but I just add some of my make up to it and I find it isn't too white.
Finding an spf that is zero waste has been a struggle for me too. I have very sensitive skin, and have to avoid coconut oil if I’m putting it on my face, because it makes me break out so badly! So far, all of the zero waste spf’s I’ve found have coconut oil. 😒
tiredapplestar have you tried just simple Shea butter? But be careful I think it stains white clothing... although it washes out perfectly 🙈
Suze Maa Shea butter is not a reliable or safe form of spf.
Have you tried mychelle sun protection? They have tinted mineral spf in glass bottles. I got mine at Whole Foods and sprouts
A really good spf that always works as a primer is the Beet the Sun by Krave! I've been loving it so far.
I love that you and I are the same with mascara - I have always been particular with my mascaras too and looove the dramatic look. I have been curious for a while to try the Besame and as my mascara from Elate just finished I think it's time to give it a try.
your brows are perfect, don't let someone ruin them!
Hehe thank you 💛
eyebrow pomades can also be good for an eco brow option! Just look for one with a glass container and a metal lid. The only downside is just buying a eyebrow angle brush
You’re so pretty thank you for going Zerowaste and tackling our serious waste issue 💕🌎
Thank you for making this video!! I am in the process of using up not only beauty products but all bathroom products before getting new zero waste items!!!! Much love
SO happy it was helpful! 💛
I honestly don’t think you even need foundation, ur skin is so beautiful. I stopped wearing foundation becuz it didn’t look like real skin and now I just use some concealer, liner, mascara and lip stick. The lesser the better for me ;))
This is so great, thank you! It keeps me inspired to stay on my make-up no-buy :)
So thrilled you are enjoying your magnetic Pro Palette + highlighter!
It would have been better if they shaved them instead
I use pretty much exclusively Elate Cosmetics now as I recently fell in love with them, the bamboo/glass packaging is great and they ship with paper or recyclable plastic packing materials! Also I’ve always had acne and oily skin and their makeup is ideal for my skin personally.
U can use a spoon to curl your lashes . My mom used to work with a model and eyelash curlers weren't a thing yet . So she would use a spoon and it's so simple too.
wish i could give this video more than one like :,) this planet NEEDS people who are willing share their tips about living a more eco-friendly lifestyle. thank you.
this was really interesting! ive never heard of some of these products and im really interested in trying them out !
So glad it was helpful 💛
I thought that was a given so I must not have mentioned that 🙈
@@SedonaChristina Phew!
Can I by any chance put my mascara wand in a pot of boiling water over the stove? I feel like that will help kill bacteria?
I'm really glad to see a lot of people commenting about this because when bigger youtubers unknowingly spread dangerous practices it gives me so much anxiety thinking about all the people who do that and think its okay
@@shubi2339 Wouldn't the heat break down the plastic and release chemicals?
Your hair looks so pretty in this video 😍
Thank you! 💛
Brow powders and pomades are also really good options because they last for so long! I have a two year old brow pomade that I'm only just getting close to finishing
Absolutely love this! I always learn something new in your videos. I will definitely check out the zero waste companies that you mentioned!
So excited to try some of these products when mine are used up which may be a few years 🤪 because I don't wear it that often. You have a beautiful end product. Thanks for sharing!
You’re gorgeous! Thank you so much for this. Beauty & makeup is the most intimidating part for me on my low waste journey.
OMG, you are such a Natural beauty! you give me a kind light hearted vibe, gorgeous outside and inside 💟
Oh my god, same here! One of my eyebrows always seems higher than the other-glad I’m not the only one lol
Ahhh so glad I’m not alone too! The uneven brow club! We’re the unique ones hehe 💘🦋🙂
Makeup does expire tho so I would be careful
Yes of course! However some products are marketed to expire a lot sooner than they really do 💛
You can spray rubbing alcohol over your eyeshadows etc. So they will last even longer.
The expire-date is ment for the "very worst conditions", e.g. relating to temperature etc.
