My grandad had a mark1 gti , my dad had a golf m1 cabriolet, mk2 g60, mk3 vr6, mk4 gti, mk5 gti, now he's in heaven but the legacy goes on , i have a mark 7 gti and i cant help but agree with this guy right here, i challenge anybody to find such an all round solid package to beat this, its impossible...

I drove the '18 R yesterday and I'm not sure if specs are different over here in USA but it felt pretty much the same as my '17 in race mode, you seemed to think the '18 was much quicker? I live in the States - have just ordered a Golf R - should be getting it in about 10 days or so. Over here they are special order and you get what you are given !! No test driving allowed. I am getting the Black on black manual.... Seeing your review reinforced that I think i have made the right choice (have had 5 golfs previously since 1983).... Thanks
Great vid. Just bought the 2013 model year "R" for the mountains here in Alberta, Canada. Looking for those snowy days on the way to the ski-hill to give the AWD a real test.
Great video. The R is the best daily, interior is top notch, great ride for the street and tight build quality. The RS has the power and trick GKN twinster set up, plus has a really taunt suspension. Much as I like the RS for its power and handling, as a daily prefer the R.
even for the track, with better tires (which everyone does on track), and probably something simple like a tune... the RS falls behind the R. they both handle fantastically, but the R loses a slight notch to the torsen's awd response time (you're talking portions of an inch of slip in difference for response at these speeds, and at higher speeds, the haldex responds quicker closing the gap between the two). even for the track, overall i'd still recommend the vw for pretty much everything, especially quality and long term usage.

Used to own a Sirocco R and loved it before it was totalled in an accident and was a bit on the fence about my new Golf R MKVII and if I made the right decision but after watching this review I am convinced I made the right decision. I've got one and it's a great car. Performance in a stealthy package. Insurance is much cheaper than for the WRX I had before and the cops don't even look once at you.
Love your review style Ricky. Really love the r and agree that it is a super "do it all" daily driver. Would be a bargain in comparison to the M2 or '12 Targa4s that are also on my list. Got to be a manual though. I will be watching your other reviews. Perfect length and content. REALLY well done. Thanks.

That sunroof makes a huge difference in the car's looks.
