I LOVE this…. You show us all your steps, right or wrong.
THAT is why I’m still subscribed.
Thanks!
It would be cool if they made another case that combines the UPS and M.2 SATA hats - that would work nicely for a tiny home server.
Me too! I actually requested this to them last year!
I've been looking for a case solution for a UPS under the pi (Pisugar 3 Pro), Ice Tower on top & an M.2 somewhere in the case. That really is the holy grail of Pi4 cases in my opinion. Unfortunately it just doesn't exist so I'm stuck with the diy cardboard box case I made.
ty for uploading this informational content and its entertaining
That's a very nice little case! I'm still quite happy with my ArgonOne M.2 case; but if I didn't have it, this one would be tempting, especially for a 'server'.
and adding some (ornate) metal block on the ArgonOne just helps passive cooling
0:53 yes, it's a pitty that the cyan case didn't have metal threads for the screws; if you design your own case (for 3D printing) you always put holes to accept the metal threads; it's even easy to install them using heat (although PLA melt faster than ABS) by pressing them down the hole.
But for applications that doesn't require too much strength and even better, not much assembly/dissasembly, you can get away with a screw directly into the plastic hole.
Those OLED demos are from the luma project (luma.oled, luma.lcd, etc.), a nice set of libraries for running small displays with pure python. The "Space Invaders" demo is playable with some minor changes to its code.
Excellent review, as always. I like this case, although I don’t like LEDs in cooling fans, either here or in desktop PC cases.
Thanks for the review. You may have said in the review, but it seems to me a good value. I have one coming and also have to rob my Argon 1...
The US Micro Center stores have just had loads of Pi4 4Gb delivered and sold almost straight away and at the RRP, I haven't seen any UK vendors getting the same stock, some US commenters on other YT sites are claiming the dearth is over (after one delivery)
I saw them all stacked up on Facebook. 👍🏻
Probably a challenge for them when the pi4 are so limited in availability.
The case looks wonderful and having the m.2 module drive is an improvement for having large drive with the transfer rates offered by the USB3 vs the USB2
I like that. Thanks. I followed your Amazon link.
It always looks easy online. You did a great job of the assembly. I will check back to you older one to see if there are any tips on the scripting etc. I have had some annoying things happen with mine. I get a Starburst effect with the Led's vs a Rainbow, I can get the oled to show when I do a direct Python3 go at the .py files but the loaded scripting that is suppose to be installed at startup seems to no like my unit. I used a different user name, but changed permissions in the install scrip and gpio access. Am dealing with tech support at this time and just tinkering. All and All a great unit, love the built in m.2, and as one of your patrons mentioned, the ups unit and this is a great server......may have to set up an external one! THX
Assembly blunders admission and recovery quite helpful. Inclusion of GPIO Pin Adapter? Did you forget to install it, or am I making assumption. Speed Test remarkable, definitely the SSD advantage wins 5 starts.
Sad I am, an upgrade with both UPS and SSD Daughter Board not produced.
Sad as well for a lack of a Safe Power Off button and relocated external SD card slot. That gaping SD access hole in the end panel, less than sharp appearance.
Very helpful your pointing out 52Pi Wiki.
This is exactly how I'd put it together
Some rather critical reviews on amazon mostly in German for some reason. One saying you can only install raspian on m.2. Surely not true ? So my 256gb 2280 m.2 card is ok for this as it is with my Argon one case ?
I haven’t tried others. If it didn’t boot this may be a fix

@@leepspvideo ah ok can you maybe try another os like unbuntu even Windows 11 ? Also it seems you can't easily swap over the M.2 ssd without dismantling everything ?
Now if they can make the raspberry pi.
Can you configure the OLED on the new bookworm Raspbain OS? Or just Bullseye only still? Yet to find instructions anywhere for Debian process. I tried the instructions the 52pi wiki page had but they did not work to display anything while before on Bullseye it worked fine.
awesome little case Lee but the display is so tiny i wonder if they have bigger displays and just cutting out a bigger hole and fitting it in there is definately a lot space there for a bigger one...
These tiny OLEDs are very common and inexpensive. As a status display, it’s fine. Beyond that you would have to upscale the case to accommodate a larger display. Which is totally doable if you you’re into diy and 3d printing 😁.
Hello Lee, are you aware of any PoE hats that fit with the 52pi cases? Or do you have experience building your own "´Frankenstein" version? Would love to see a video on it if you have the parts? I am doing lots of searches but can't find anything. I was wondering if the Waveshare PoE hat without the fan would squeeze in the case somewhere and use GPIO jumper cables to extend to the appropriate points? What do you think? It's my first Pi project and I'm aiming to build a server with PiHole, VPN, NGINX for a basic website all in Docker containers. I have the 52pi Tower case to put everything in but PoE would be great. Best wishes.
I always get emails about a new product from Raspberry pi website, but why NO raspberry pi 4's?
Got the case. Happy with it. Still looking for a good luma python lcd py file to only show the temperature and fan speed. Alternating... with a big font. I am not a programmer...
More excellent work. Thx
What filament is the case printed from? normal ABS does show up layer lines but carbon fibre composites and wood composites dont.
First great video
what is the solution if I want UPS and M.2 SSD?
could you not have updated the firmware so as the pi with no sd card boots into pi imager and then you could directly install onto the m.2?
I’m sure it’s already up to date. I am so used to using imager within an os.
Thanks for video. I recently got a WY-Pi keyboard case by Raspberry Pi Plastics, which I quite like though a few missed opportunities - Wondering what your thought on that are...
I was thinking it was going to be overpriced, but at £19.99 it looks like a great deal.
If you didn’t already have a Pi I guess you would get a 400 which has amazing cooling. I’ll mention it in pi news. 👍🏻
@@leepspvideo Price is rather good as it comes with a bt keyboard and a fan.
The feel is nice and quality and fit was very good. It's missing documentation but eventually figured it out especially fan connection. Only issues are there could have been better drive solutions and not easy access to gpio pins.
But it looks and feel quality.
Can we use the original RPi4 power supply 5.1V 3A for this or do we need a higher current power supply to feed the extra power requirement that the SSD need's ?
I was using the official Pi 4 adapter
Damn... Now I want to take my 8GiB out of the ArgonOne M.2....... That was my ultimate case, but This thing looks sweet
is the deskpi mini sata "hat" included with the case? i can't find that thing online
Do you mean the m.2 board?
@@leepspvideo oops yes m.2 - i haven't seen any variants with usb rather than with a sata connector
@@kuchesezik yes it’s included
Hey Leeps!
Could you help me find a PoE board that is compatible with any of the ICE Tower coolers?
I have been searching for months. If you find one that you think will work I would be willing to take a chance and purchase it or donate the cost to help out the channel!
Thank you for the awesome videos I really appreciate keeping up to date with Raspberry Pi news and hardware releases!
So I have to ask, did the scripting that was in the user manual work right out of the box on your setup? I am still have weird things happen on mine. I have gone back and setup as per user etc......still a bust. The tech support have been responsive but not helpful. Will continue to tinker. THX
I haven’t used it enough to know. I have many different Pi cases
@@leepspvideo figured it out, had to take out the sound as it uses the PWM and was causeing the issue that I was having. now the solution to the problem has changed the problem, OLED and LED's are working as per....
Hello, Is this case will fit the RP5 or we need to wait special release? thank you
You would need to cut a bigger hole for Ethernet
Raspberry Pi 5. What Pi 4 cases still work?
th-cam.com/video/MyTRzIOel2A/w-d-xo.html
So it's either m.2 or UPS, not both. Shame, would be cool to have all in one.
What is the M2.SATA that you used?. An NVMe will work?
amzn.to/3vrM7jR
Nvme isn’t supported
I am running bookwork on my pi4 and also havea different user name other than "pi" . I get errors all over when trying to install this. any ideas?
You pick your username and password on first installation
@@leepspvideoi did that but im running bookworm so the install is different. I finally did the option of installing all at once and it worked.
I never did get the little displays to work..
Sigh
These ones look so cool, like a toy
Imagine one board designed for the case and take CM4
What M.2 SATA drive are you using?
Looked at the video again and found it.
@@EdSym1 amzn.to/3SeiPiu
If you can find one.... (priced normal)
The M.2 SATA adapter from Geekworm has serious problems with RFI interference and wireless networking, even the V2 of the board.
It prevented BOTH 2.4G and 5G WIFI from connecting.
You didn't even mentioned the price!
I included links. It depends what country you are in
Transiting data from an sata nvme via usb3 is heresy.
An nvme sata can have transfer speeds of 500 mb and are even more expensive than nvme. For me this is a waste of money.
It’s not nvme it’s M.2 Sata the drives are not that expensive. The Pi won’t run faster than usb 3 speeds.
I still think it’s a nice neat package and we’ll priced considering what it comes with.
@@leepspvideo Yes of course and I did say SATA
Thanks for the answer.
@@leepspvideo I think now you can install and boot raspian from a usb 3 flash drive so not much point in using an m.2 SSD. Same speeds etc

Bonita forma de gastar tu biyuyo lindos pisa papeles ya que en un año serán eso jajaja 🤣 jajajaja
This is comically large
The fan is nothing else than a gimmick.
Are you joking? An RPi 4B can get very hot and, especially if running at 2+ GHz, definitely benefits from a fan in most cases.
@@virtuallifeform "They can get very hot" - FALSE! I am running my Raspberrys 4 with passive cooling and never had any issues. Furthermore, they do slow down automatically when overheated.
@@snax_4820 I have several, and yes, they can get quite hot. A heat sink with a fan will always provide better cooling than a heat sink alone. And there's no point letting them thermal throttle if I'm overclocking them to begin with.
@@virtuallifeform …no, he is right…the fan is a gimmick…. All it does is keep the RPi from throttling…quite a gimmick…
He would rather let his machine run slower… his choice….
Very nice. Is it possible to turn the leds on the cooling fan off?
