You're correct in that the FPC cable is not compatible. FPC Side A -> Side A (Same Side) is like going 1,2,3 -> 1,2,3. FPC Side A -> Side B (Different Side) would reverse the pins so going 1,2,3 -> 3,2,1. So the order is in reverse. That is why it wouldn't detect the drive.
It looks like the tower case would be ready for the X1002 combo if they just lowered the mounting pegs by 5mm and included some longer screws. The screws would need go go through the Pi5, the X1002 with it's built-in standoffs, and into the mounting holes in the tower case.
Thanks Lee for the update and review. 52PI Has really stepped-up their game! I always liked the way you pronounce A-Lume-A-num (US) ….Al-You-Mini-um (UK)…when I 1st started listening to shortwave pre internet the BBCWorldService pronounced just like you…and I went crazy trying to figure out what’s that new metal the U.K. Has?…😂! Have a great day!
With the undermounted Geekworm nvme mount, you can heat up the small mounting pegs to desolder the joints. Once they are out the openings are usually the size of most mounting pegs so it may fit in there. It would be a bit tricky getting it in, but it should work to out one in.
Nice video, Lee; however, the PI mount in the case can be removed. The inner bottom of the case with the standoffs mounlded in can beremoved by unscreewing the 4x Counterunk screws on the bottom. You could then 3D print a new base with standoffs or, as I am going to do, reduce the size of the standoffs.
I have the Pi4 version of this case. Very happy generally but my display has been showing stats for ages now and I've experienced quite a bit of OLED burn-in. The custom display PWB carries all the fan wiring so it's not a simple replacement.
I fitted an nvme board into my tower but i had to cut the inner base down. Had to be precise for so the ports lined up perfectly but I managed it. I’ve not managed to get the led display working yet. Could you do a video on how you did it? I’d love to try some of those displayed you have on yours in this video.
I’m hoping there’s a Pironman style case coming for the 5. I have the 4 in the Pironman case which I currently have but I do not want to go through the ordeal of tearing it apart 😅
100 mm ribbon cable is available from Pineberry Our custom ribbon cables for HatDrive! have impedance control and are specifically engineered to support PCIe GEN 3 speeds on the Raspberry Pi 5. The bundle contains 3 ribbon cables: 25mm, 40mm and 100mm. The cables are compatible with all our boards.
Not sure if you already have this in your collection, but do you have any videos validating some of the raspi 5 cases (housing) that fit with the nvme adapter? Geekworm X1001 or any other adapter that you see useful. Great work.

1.Maximum current for PCIe wire is 1A, and voltage is 5V. 2.If you find that the SSD is not working properly, it is possible that the power supply of SSD is not enough, then you need to check the current requirement of your SSD to decide whether power the SSD separately. 3.Maybe the flat cable is too long
Love your channel Lee... Q: Could you mount the nvme (hat or base) in the rear of the Mini Tower case vertically; parallel to the display wiring above the rear opening?
No Conway's Game of Life on the OLED display? Missed opportunity there. 🤣 It's a nice case but it needs to be able to take the Pimoroni NVMe base unit to be worthy of my purchase. The whole point of a case like this is internal SSD! It is a glaring oversight on their part. I do have a small portable SSD drive that could be external to the whole thing using a USB 3.0 port but, again, it defeats the whole point of having such a case. Disappointing as it is so much cheaper, and probably easier to find, than the Pironman 5.
I really like the tower case. But I am unsure If I can run a display cable out of the back, what do you think ? Would it need to bend in a weird way. Or just work ?
@@leepspvideo thank you :D I found a 3D printed version of a tower case for the Pi. Will see how hard it is to make it fit a 2,5" SSD + adapter. If its too much of a hassle I will get this case. Worst case I take a dremel to it. And make the hole a bit bigger ^^
@@leepspvideo wanted to give you an update. As I think you would quite enjoy the case design ! :D There is a tower style case on thingiverse. Maybe I can get some interesting shots of its cooling performance with my Flir photon 320 and post it in a make ^^
Nice case and I love the little screen which would be nice if in color. Too bad they do not have one that has a nvme hat built into it. I would probably get one then since I would find it hard to go back to just a micro sd card after using a ssd drive.
I'm disappointed that the X1001 mount won't work in the mini ice tower. the m.2 SSD is much faster then a Micro SD card even though the m.2 SSD is only running at 25% of rated speed due to PI 5 bus limitations. I am booting off the m.2 SSD. The Micro SD card is being used somewhere else. I guess I will design and build my own case using my laser cutter engraver and use the parts from the mini ice tower to make it work! 😀

Ive got the Argon Neo5 NVME case and its really good. Better than the official Pi5 case and is very good at keeping the pi 5 cool even overclocked.

With the same tower case I mounted my Ai hat on the outside where the sd card is, and works great that way
A bit over the top for my use case, but nice. I just wonder why the screen isn't RGB.

The Edatec supplies power as well as pcie, could be the answer. The pcie I was using does have a power connection I might be able to use.

Possibly, but I really want a solution that allows me to instantly swap drives
my temps with overclock were about 70C but with some old cpu fan that i connected to 3.3V it ran about 10C less

It would need to bend slightly. The hole at the sd card slot end of the case is pretty large. You could also go out of the side by the hdmi’s

so metal screws on that first case won't hurt anything if the contact the back of a Pi5 board at those two points? Looks like a design fail to me.
