    I was hit by a motorcycle in 2009. It broke my femur-head and shattered my hip. My face was crushed and I had a TBI. To top it off, I had a broken arm. Multiple surgeries, kept me 5 weeks in the hospital, where I developed pressure sores and a blood clot. Months of physical therapy and speech therapy. I can certainly relate to what Brooke has gone through. I also had PTSD pretty bad. I didn’t want to leave the house for fear something would come out of the blue and hurt me again. People say my recovery was a miracle. I always have pain, but I’m out of the wheelchair!

      How terrible! I sure hope you recover and enjoy life again. You poor thing. I guess it was certainly not your time to go. I’m sure it’s difficult to wrap your head around but maybe there’s something important left for you to discover in this life.

      You did not even injure yourself, I would be so angry at the motorcyclist. I see stupid motorcyclists every single day doing such idiotic things. I am not talking about Harley riders or people just riding down the road. I am so sorry you got hit,, there is no excuse for that and I would be very wary of getting hit. I drive a car so carefully and defensively, I wish everyone would. I do not want to ever hit a person, and have them suffer as you have.

    I’m happy she’s recovering and that she’s been sharing this. As an almost 50 year old, she’s making me really see how careful I need to be with even the little things because it can end with an injury like this. I physically cringe when I hear about her injury. One of my fears.

    • @annecaulder9495
      @annecaulder9495 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay, she's 56 years old and she should know better. I'm a tad younger, but I hung up my rollerblades several years ago. There's menopause and bone density loss. Also, she fell four inches to the ground and thought she was going to die? I took a terrible fall last year off my bottom step, and at no point did I think I was paralyzed or would die. Broken patella, likely, but not that I would die. What a drama queen.

    • @n.harrington9298
      @n.harrington9298 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@annecaulder9495 I think that thing launched her when it went out from under her, and she fell with such force that she easily could have damaged her spine, so yes, paralysis would be my first thought, too. And she thought she might die when she had multiple complications in the hospital. People die from hospital infections. She admits it was a stupid, careless mistake. Why call her names? Looked pretty serious and painful to me, and her recovery has plainly been arduous.

    • @patty-cf7jj
      @patty-cf7jj 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. When I was 53 I broke my hip just tripping over something which catapulted me and fell on my hip on a carpeted floor. Ever since then I’m very careful with everything I do. I work out but I don’t do anything that could possibly cause a trip or a fall. When I first heard of her accident I thought why was she even doing that at her age?

    I was in physical therapy, having all of the same treatments that Brooke is having. It's not only for rich folks, commenters. If you don't have insurance, it's a different story. But this is what the ACA was supposed to be all about, GOOD coverage for ALL Americans.
    My family made the choice to get decent insurance, we don't regret a penny of it, since it's covered most of my treatments.
    I'm glad that Brooke is doing well, walking down those steps is a huge leap! I know, it's still painful for me to do, but I can, and that's the best feeling ever.

    • @jml4774

      Too bad the republicans kneecapping the ACA at every turn. If only all the politicians would get onboard for decent healthcare coverage for everyone. My idea: No politician (senator or congressperson) gets healthcare coverage until everyone gets it. Tell them, "Go back to the table and hammer out what you want for yourself and then work to make it happen for everyone."

      This is why the US needs national healthcare. The ine thing she didnt have to worry about was how much is this costing. It make recovery easier when you dont have the hospital admin coming in saying your insurance wont cover this or that. My ex had a neck fusion and they kicked him out of the hospital on the 3rd day. He didnt have any home care or even a proper bed or walker etc. they ended up having to do the surgery a second time because he didnt heal properly. The second time he stayed in the hospital for a whole week.

    Brooke: I fell crossing MacDougal Street and my right elbow hit the rim of the first stair on a small flight of stairs fully shattering my right elbow. Surgery done at HSS ( 6 hours) with a Trauma surgeon and physical therapy 3 times a week for 10 months at HSS. I am a fighter and did everything I was asked to do and did not slack. I am right hand dominant so it was critical to me to do the very best I could to make this right. I am permanently disabled -but not terribly noticeable -because of the nature of the injury -not because of the surgeon -who was phenomenal. Good luck to you and just keep doing what you are doing. There may be secondary issues like PTSD going forward ----don't freak out ---it is not unusual ----but don't be surprised and don't let it throw you! All the best ✨

    After menopause (and age 55 is post-menopause) most women naturally put on weight. There is a reason for this. A fall down the steps can be the difference between a sore bum and a broken femur. I slipped and flew down a set of stairs at 62. Because of the extra padding, nothing was broken except my pride.

    It's all about mindset and the fight to stand up and keep going and you've gotta push hard and fight hard

    You definitely take more time to slow down n smell the roses

    I'm glad to hear that she's recovering, but I'd hope so with her resources. She is very fortunate that they were able to get her Staph infection under control. There are a lot of videos on others who have lost limbs are a result. Again, good health care says a lot. Keep working hard to get back on both feet.

    Serious injury reveals you like Brooke said and I would like to add, it also reveals those around you. I was very depressed because an injury I had revealed the character of someone I love. Thankfully I recovered, my knee will never be the same again but I can walk and I don't have a limp but do have mild pain in the injured knee and it's slightly difficult to get up from a seated position on the floor.

    I had a total knee replacement surgery around the same time. No family allowed during inpatient rehab. The staff was totally negligent. I still cannot bend my knee, even after a manipulation under anesthesia. Doing another 6 weeks of PT. Praying I will get my mobility back. The rehab facility was just awful. They told me to stop asking for ice for my knee. A nurse yelled curse words at me for crying. I had bleeding bed sores from lying in my urine because no one answered the call bell. They didn’t treat it. I’m a vegetarian and consistently received meat. I lost weight. There’s much more. If my leg cripples me, I’m considering a lawsuit. Pandemic - no relatives for advocating = disaster. I hope Brooke was treated well.
