It's so interesting how differently people's ironing processes are! My mother taught me to iron the collar first and then the back yoke, then cuffs and sleeves. and finally the body of the shirt. The first thing we learned as children was my dad's handkerchiefs before we started on garments when were a little older and she trusted us using the iron.

Just found yr channel, what a dear heart! My need to wrest clothing purse from Mum to avoid the inevitable Laura Ashley frilly blouses..led to a lucrative Sunday job ironing for a petite wearer of said frilly blouses & her beau's sea island cotton dress shirts. I can iron & quickly 'cos she only paid for 2 hrs each week but £5 per hour 😅 (an enormous amount in 1980)

My mother taught me how to iron as a small child and have loved it ever since!, I also like washing and seeing it blowing on the line.

I was taught by my military father. First iron the back of collar, then the front collar. Then the front, back and second front. Finally the sleeves and cuffs. ❤

this is so useful! key takeaway was that you don't iron both sides of the sleeve? shows I must be doing it wrong! thanks xx

My ritual was to iron everything on Sunday afternoon with my Laurastar continuous steam iron: hubby’s & my business clothes; daughters’ school uniforms etc. The final tripod rack of beautifully pressed items (no starch just steam& water spray) was very satisfying. Meanwhile, hubby was downstairs cooking up the roast, beer in hand, footy on tv - who said men can’t multi task 😉. Nowadays we’re retired, so has the iron 😊🌻

I love ironing! I have a morphy Richards steam generator and wouldn’t be without it. I’m on my second one now. I pay about £250, but they are worth every penny x

Such a great video, Charlie--as always! It would be nice to see how you organize your shoes. Also, any tips on decorating for the holidays using a cottage-style Christmas as inspiration. Oh, it would also be nice to see something about how to downsize/store holiday decor. : )

I think that it was the book "Home Comforts" which described ironing as the "Queenliest of Household Arts". I would mostly steam the frills. Also I would put them in the dryer for a short while which cuts down the ironing by half, at least, provided I don't forget to pull them out after a few minutes.

I love to iron as well - ever since watching the ironing scene in Dr. Zhivago with Laura and Yuri 50 years ago!!! 😆. However, my mother taught me to start with the back of the shirt - go around the body, do the shoulders, sleeves and collar last - I think your way is better, sorry mom!

PS - Do you have a video on how to iron sheets and tablecloths - I struggle with these. For the sheets, a woman I knew that had servants in her youth, showed me how they did the sheets - they iron them on the bed! Does this make sense?!? 🤷🏻‍♀️
