The baby was probably sick and on its way out. Poor thing. Sometimes these birds are traumatized in one way or another before they get to a rehab, via falling, getting too cold and for too long, being abandoned and not having food, illness and so on. There are many factors that could be at play here.
Yeah you're right. I saw a video by Robert Fuller and he tried to rescue a kestrel from its nest once and he was able to warm it up and feed it perfectly and it still died later on. @@mariagricius8994
