      It's a testament to the strength of the film. What should be a normal summer cookie cutter comic book movie turned out to be a micro character study on real mental and psychological issues and the toll it takes on people. Apply real legit mental health issues to meta humans and you can see the real dangers AND beauty of people who want to be loved and heard. I may be looking into more than I should but I like a movie that can be fun and tackle real issues without coming across heavy handed.

      I think Waller has been constantly dealing with enough deluded idiots in the squad, that she’s regretting the whole thing. That look on her face when she’s in her office with the ice pack on her head made me wonder. Is that a, “Where am I going to bury those goons that just took me down with a 9-iron,” look, or a, “I knew I should’ve called in today. i think Diablo had a very interesting character arc. one of my favorite lines of his was "Im a man, i aint no weapon. Ima die in peace before i raise my hands again"

    • @brucelaborin2124
      @brucelaborin2124 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I think King Shark has more happen in his arc, than in most of the Marvel AND DC movies put together. I was shocked at how much depth they gave a throw away character like him. My best friend always talked shit about the King Shark character whenever he showed up in some place or another. She wasn't talking shit after the movie. This whole movie was like how Steven Darabont described Bladerunner: "Bladerunner was like this huge gift box that someone gives you, and you open it and the gift itself is THIS SMALL (gestures with both hands like he's holding a walnut). It's not that the gift isn't precious, it's just that the two don't go together." Basically, what I'm trying to say about Suicide Squad is that this movie looked UGLY in the trailer, and I was revolted by the character designs, and just how washed out the imagery was. Then I saw the movie, and the tag line "from the beautifully ugly mind of James Gunn . . .", made complete sense. With one poignant point he made overall about beautiful presents can come from ugly places, he immediately all encompassed the entirety of its characters and themes with that sentiment, in a myriad of ways. It's like an onion, peel after peel brings so much. This is possibly the greatest of the superhero genre, at this present moment.

      @krangitebacon5039 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Cam-vs4fd was that really an arc though? or was that just his character showing through the film? the character development you're referring to is going from a dangerous burny burny man to someone who refuses to hurt people, but i thought that happened off screen in the past with his family. unless im missing stuff that happened during the film, thats backstory, not character arc

    Dammit, now I'm going to have to watch it, because it sounds like Mr. Gunn is in rare form. He does have a knack for humanizing characters, literally in this case, considering that teammates where on the menu for Mr. Shark prior to that entire affair. It is kind of funny that big things for James in his superhero flicks are family, found family, and friends, when those tropes are usually in short supply in most action flicks. I also loved how after being told Ratcather wasn’t Nom Nom, he asks not only the group what is Nom Nom, but himself too. You can really see this after the final fight when he asks the group “Nom Nom?” while pointing at one of the bodies.

    He did literally just try to eat her.
    It's the concept of; you suddenly find yourself in a cell with the biggest baddest bubba in the whole prison. You'd better try to make friends, cause you have to sleep sometime.
    So she tries to get him to empathize.
    She can't overpower or even outrun him for long, since they're forced to remain in proximity as a team.
    It's really the only card she can play, unless she wants to die of sleep deprivation instead.

    I just finished this great playlist, and what can I say: thank you very much. This is my all time favorite movie and I always find it a little frustrating to hear people just say "it's a fun movie with good action scenes", when in fact Gunn's real strength is to tell the story of these seven (eight with Starro) outsiders who, after a life of manipulation, must learn to become independent.
    I hope Gunn does more spin offs, at least du Harley and Ratcatcher II.

While he is trying to find his way out, rat's attack him from everywhere. As a matter In fact Rambo In that movie is alone abandoned by soceity with his mental issues, from the war.

    I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw the subtle emotional complexity of King Shark. Most are just going to view him as the big dumb guy on the team but Gunn and Stallone really nailed on giving Nanaue a touching background character arc that I think deserves more credit. I also really related to Nanaue so maybe that helped in me spotting these things.
    One-shot that really got to me was when he's on the ground, he lets out a tear because the little creatures betrayed him. Then when the soldiers began unloading on him, his reaction was to simply curl up and take it. That is just heartbreaking, he's like a little kid suffering abuse and he doesn't understand why. Again...I related to him. So I cheered him on when he finally snapped and murdered that one soldier.
    Another one that I know a lot of people will mostly view for comedy is his scene with Peacemaker. He makes the little figure out of the explosive and it's cute and humorous but when he turns around after planting it, he's left alone in the room. Poor guy was just trying to be a good friend and he looks so sad standing there alone like that.
