I find myself doing a lot of things that most people pay others/contractors to do, most recently a backup generator. My basic feeling is that I will do a better job than the average pro. This is not because I'm better, it's because I care, and it's mine. Now my point...I have never seen this level of time & care taken for someone else! 8:35 NO ONE would ever know, but you still do it this way. I am beyond impressed.

could you cut the burned out section off that old barrel and rechamber it in 300 WSM or other??

Dear Sir - Krieger, Bartlein and Brux make dozens of new barrels each and every day - why mess around with old, used junk?

Yes you can. It's an easy fix to set the bbl back if the throat ONLY is bad.

Any machinist that takes 20 .005" passes...........should be a gunsmith. Just to clarify......there is ZERO advantage in taking 20 small passes instead of say........030......030.....030......010. I would argue you are creating excessive wear and heat into the tip of the cutting tool. If the machine is rigid enough and you keep the tool cool........take as much as you can to save time and wear.......they make finish passes for a reason.

Zero advantage that YOU are aware of. A smart man tries EVERYTHING and then does what produces the best results.

@@quarterminutemagnumshow does taking that many passes make any difference than what the man who builds a pretty decent rifle above says?

@@austincook3735 Agree. Sometimes perfection is the enemy of progress. Retired toolmaler of 45 years here. We used to call that picking flyshit out of pepper.
