How does mineru level up?
sages wills or wearing minerus helm@@The_Bus_Photographerofficial
For anyone who doesn't know, mineru's special armor is the zonai set, and mineru will also have a mask on her
I'm more than 250 hours into the game and still didn't know that until now! This game is full of surprises. Nice profile picture, by the way.
@@Fiucha8893 thanks dude. Nice pfp also
Thanks for continuing to educate us and for making it an adventure to learn. 👏
As in the Zonaite Helm/Waistguard/Shin Guards?
I forgot it wasn't common knowledge that the zonai helm is the corresponding sage headpiece, so thanks for commenting this!
2:14 Bomb arrows in hot areas? Dang, Sidon's ability is more useful than I thought.
I'm getting an itch to pick up TotK again with this new information
When I discovered that sage avatars wear their respective Divine Beast helmet when Link does, I was like "Yeah, nice touch". But I did not think about testing if there was an actual change in the combat mechanics.
3:34
@@Dionysos_____AltersI think he got that
One semi-important thing to note about Yunobo is that he actually has weight. It typically doesn't affect much, but it can do things like skew the angle of a hoverbike.
Yeah really annoying as well as his constant rolling sound so I have to turn him on and off constantly.
He’s literally a ghost why did they give him physics
This game has such good and such bad things about it
If I remember right, all of them have weight, they will actually weigh down objects if they stand on them. But yunobo is the one most people will run into since he's the only sage that is designed ti attach to vehicles
Thanks for covering how Mineru's fusion durability works in particular in this vid. There's been a surprising lack of readily available info on the non-Zonai fuse materials, even this far after the game's release
most BotW info wasn't discovered for years on out, so it's still the beginning of a long journey!!! Thank you though I'm glad this has helped 😄
You forgot the ultimate sage ability: the Kohga super ultra mega slam! It does 1 billion damage and freezes all enemies, and also heals link fully while providing a shield and a big Kohga robot for him to walk around in!
SPOILERS i haven't gotten there yet 😭
*1 Kohgillion damage
Dang is this the secret 15th sage you get after catching mew behind the truck and having a dad that works at Nintendo? That's crazy that they added that
@@_ikako_don't forget to hold your switch upside down at 3 am after beating the elite fo- I mean, after defeating all the temple bosses 100 times each!
Regardless of if people think they're useful or not, getting the sages felt magical to me. Felt like I was actually assembling a team to fight Ganondorf rather than just running at it alone with Link.
yeah, and when all sages plus link are beating the crap out of a ragdoll enemy on a corner is probably the funnies shit i've seen in a game for a long time
@@blar2112 Always fucking loved that. Felt like a real "GET THEM" moment when it happened.
I got Tulin first and just loved how that little dude 1: is WAY better at keeping up with you because he can fly 2: has a REALLY easy to trigger ability that DOESN'T require me to walk up to somebody 3: loves to just nail headshots. More than once I've flubbed a flurry rush only for Tulin to dink the monster in the head and ragdoll it. Love that little guy, he's always got my back.
@@Starflooflenever heard anyone say it, but tulin is a GOD at headshots. it got so bad i began to almost fully rely on him to stun enemies so i can clobber them with no thoughts
@@StarfloofleI was _so_ scared that Tulin was going to be an Annoying Kid Mascot type but, not only is he actually incredibly useful, _when he's a ghost he shuts up_

*gets on Zonai device:* *_Yunobo automatically engages_*
*draws bow:* _“Press A to use Riju’s Lightning”_
*pull out shield:* *_Sidon water bubble automatically activates_*
They did this for the first game! Why stop here? 😭
I like this but how would you use them in open world / combat? Like breaking rocks with Yunobo or using Tulin’s gust in combat to blow enemies away.
@@WalidNusseiri the standard way would exist as well.
@@WalidNusseiri The same as always? Tulin's gust can only be useful when paragliding and the player can just grab Yunobo when they're not on a zonai device
Seems like a no brainer right.
Maybe they did it because they wanted the player to feel they are actively engaging with the sages, I mean a part of the game is the entire world of hyrule fighting the upheaval together so maybe that was what they were thinking.
These "little things" can do so much for immersion.
Watching your sages in combat then running up to them to ask for an ability, their help.
From the moment I found my first Divine Beast helmet and saw that the sage was wearing it as well, I knew that it must be something more than just a (very cool) visual nod, but I had no idea what the specifics of it could be. I'm very happy to see this as one of the first Stats of the Kingdom, thanks a lot!
I had too many questions when using the sages in this game, figured it would be a good early topic to look into!! Thank you congele 😄
I love the feeling of having a party of friends with you. It feels like what it must have felt like to be working with the champions back in the day. I always wished we could have experienced that in game; seeing everyone have Links back.
Also I’m so proud of all of the OG 4. they feel like true valuable allies this time around. Add Mineru (though I don’t love the mech mechanic) and it feels like link doesn’t have to be a lone wolf anymore.
indeed, though this is marred slightly by how all of them disappear when Link enters NPC zones for some reason. Don't wanna freak out the norms with your ghosts and robots I guess. Mineru also has some pretty heavy gameplay-story segregation no matter how you look at it.. as they gave her the excuse to not actually be with you and talk (I guess it would break some immersion that she didn't participate in conversations) by having her stay behind and do research.. but rather than getting a ghost of her (which would make way more sense) or a ghost of her mech, you just get.... a copy of the mech. Like her spirit has been trapped in a cell phone for untold millennia, and she doesn't even want to go see the world? But also, the mech-copy still ACTS like a ghost, and can teleport (I mean so can the original body, clearly just for anti-frustration purposes) and hides from NPCs. very odd.
Tulin is the best Sage out of all of them. Getting a random headshot that knocks enemies to the floor makes groups of enemies so much easier to deal with. Not to mention his gusts of wind in the early game can be the difference between making it to a far off sky island or sky diving back down to the surface.
This is really good to know. I love these videos.
I even forgot about the helmets despite having discovered it myself.
Also, I never thought about using Sidon for Moldugas. Enabling bomb arrows in heat and buffing electric arrows makes Sidon's ability much better than thought.
Idr thinking about the last 3 either... Though I do think I used them that way on occasion.
To be honest though, the difficulty reaching the sages mid-combat as they run away from you means it typically isn't practical to use the sage abilities mid-fight.
If there's enough sages active chances are at least one of them is close by!! It's fun adapt in the moment by using the ability of the most convenient one
@@Croton Yeah tulin blowing materials over a ledge while you are trying to collect them.
Serious design flaw using the same buttons for sages and collect materials.
@@StinkyremyI mean, nothing is stopping you from just quickly going onto the menu and turning him off
I get not thinking of it in the moment but I'm not sure what other button you could really use for it tbh, I guess it could be a menu option which is a solution but I understand not doing that and more just go going for using it in the middle of a battle. At the end of the day I don't think it's that big of a problem, just try to remember to turn him off when you're grabbing stuff. I understand it's kinda anoyying, but hm I understand you can't change the controls if I recall but maybe they could do something like that.
At the end of the day, again, I don't think it's that big of an issue
I understand why it's anoyying though, can't deny that
But everything can't be perfect I suppose
@@Soleihere It is a design flaw as I said. Tulin is the most useful of all the sages and turning him on and off is nit really viable as he will be used so frequently, its not like the others that are situational, yonobo when you go in a cave with heavy rocks that need destroying for example.
What they should have done was instead of going up to the game and pressing a button, they should have had a dedicated input for it, like hold the button or something.
@@Stinkyremy holding the button would really work actually, I think that's the best way to go about it.
Who else never thought of making a caving segway to exploit Yunobo's charge...?
i was far too niggardly with my zonanium and capsules. I really should have spent them more often for purposes like that.
@@KairuHakubi "niggardly" "zonanium" wtf did i just read??????
It's really good to know that Yunobo's ability actually gets a buff when he does.
Sometimes I wish the Sage powers were more easy to activate, but this video reminds me they're pretty amazing regardless.
Also, why the re-upload?
Inconveniently at our service
reuploaded due to an audio issue I had to sort out!
Yes, they are. Sometimes it is relaxing to just sit there and watch them bully the enemies for you.
(Rewritten from before the reuploap)
They really should've had an L button ability that lets you just pick a specific sage ability mapped to a button instead of the useless map slot.
@@MFG1243IMO Riju and Sidon just needed something similar to Tulin where there's a prompt as you glide, except it's when you aim and holding parry
@@MFG1243 This makes the most sense of all the suggestions I have seen as when you aim with a bow, are on a device controller, are blocking and while gliding L is useless.
That would have been the perfect button to use for the sages, but I guess they didn't want to confuse people and didn't want to overlap buttons.
I loved your Stats of the Wild vids for BotW and was so glad to see you’re continuing them for TotK.
My son and always share these with each other as soon as you post them.
Keep doing what you’re doing, man!!!
Thanks for doing the research on this...although I never have the sages turned on because they annoy the crap out of me. 😂
they're fun and all....until Tulin gets antsy with the wind gusts on a pile of loot
@@CrotonNah, Tulin is such a good boy, we can forgive him for just a mistake.
@@Fiucha8893 at least until he knocks my gloom spear into the river!
@@general.catallion_8054 That's what Recall was made for.
@@Fiucha8893 this happened over in the jungle area next to sheer drop-off into a river, luckily the spear only landed next to the river, but i was panicking for a moment since i really wanted one for my collection.
I love the sages in TotK, they are all much, much more versatile than the champions abilities in BotW. If only you could activate them easier, people would surely appreciate the value they bring to the table.
I actually like the way they fight with you during combats more than their abilities. Even if they don't to much damage, it feels nice to have somebody in your side.
Yeah it’s really the activation problem that screws them over. If they were activated more like the BotW abilities they’d be much more useful. But as is I’m not going to keep track of and then *chase down* Sidon or yunobo in the midst of battle. I enjoy sniping enemies in stealth so riju is probably the combat ability I use the most, but it’s still annoying to have to chase her down just to pick off a boko camp or whatever
@@sparkysheep you can call them over by whistling which MOSTLY fixes the problem for me.
@@sule001but then all 5 come over, you cant single out the one you want. Doing a champion like activation would have been 1000 times better.
@@sule001 The sages are nice and i like them, but they do need a rework.
Outside combat they stick close to you, getting on the way when trying to pick up stuff and such, i cry every time i remember how many stuff i lost becasue Yunobo blew them out ot Tulin bley them away.
Then, on combat, when you want to use their abilities, they go on they own to fight monsters, and calling them they ALL come at the same time, making it a pain to activate the one you want at the moment.
I think that they should have done theit abilities more situational or a system to call a single sage and make them jump straight to you like Yunobo coming back so you dont have to wait for them to walk to you, or being able to activate their powers straight away, for example, when aiming with a bow and arrow you can press a button to charge it with Riju ability.
BotW and TotK are some of my favorite games of all time, but i still think that the sages needed a bit more time in the oven.
Oh neat!
I thought those helmets were only aesthetic. :O
Also I learned recently that you can throw Sidon's water beam. That bumped up it's ranking for me, but I'm still not willing to chase him for it. :P
Double bonus! 😎
I love throwing the beams too, like a much more powerful master sword beam!!
If you whistle all your sages will run over to you. Helps so much when trying to get Riju or Sidon to use their ability and not run half way across the map over a Red Bokoblin taking a nap.
Totk and botw will always have a special place in my heart just for all the little details they put in. And the info behind everything. Love these two games
That's a very Nintendo thing to do. I lost the count of how many easter eggs I found when playing Mario Odyssey.
It's starting to make sense why they removed the ability to see enemies' health in this game.
I always put a cannon on Mineru's arm and then forget about it, until I'm running past a few Chuchus and then there's explosions everywhere XD
it adds an element of *surprise* to every fight!
@@Croton Mineru's been out of commission for ages, understandable that the girl wants some explosions every now and then! XD
I have an idea for Zelda's moveset if she was available as a sage. Her ability when you use it is an upgraded version of the recall ability. It will rewind the entire world for 10 seconds and have a 60 second cool down. This ability reverts all items and NPCs to where they were 10 seconds prior, but keep the damage, and will automatically use this ability if Link is about to take a hit that would kill him. She wouldn't "attack" enemies in the same way the other sages do, but instead dealing raw elemental effects and buffs to Link. Sort of like throwing elemental fruits and eating food with effects.
I probably put over 150 hours into my first TOTK playthrough when it first came out and I barely used any sages other than Tulin. This was almost entirely due to not understanding their abilities. After watching this and your Pristine Weapons video I'm itching to do several more playthroughs of equal or longer duration.
Stats of the Kingdom definitely is my most favorite TH-cam series of the last two years!
As always, a really interesting and very helpful video, thank you Croton
Thanks Orca glad you enjoyed! 😄
Thank you very much for publishing this information
I've been looking for it all this time
Those arrow tricks with Sidon’s ability blew my mind. Thanks.
This was awesome and informative as always thank you! Stay safe we love you
1:13 Yessss, I was wondering about this! Was wondering if the lightning attack overrode or "ate" the arrow, glad to know it doesn't.
2:20 I also didn't know these 2 arrow facts, very useful!
2:45 Interesting minor arrow fact
Great video as always!
THE HELMS AREN'T JUST AN AESTHETIC THING???
Thank you been wondering about this and patiently awaiting your video 😊
Always appreciate you Croton! Great video and thanks for what you do!
Appreciate you too man! Thank you 😄
Sidon's ability is OP, it's the only reason I was able to beat the Fire Temple when I was too lazy to grind up money for fire resistant armor. It also helped a bunch during the stupid light puzzles before the Lightning Temple. Water shield is literally able to save your life in multiple ways while still adding to your damage output in nearly any instance where you aren't attacking with a shield or a zonai mech/tank.
This is fascinating, thank you! I want to know *all* the stats!!
Quick note... I'm not sure about the maths on 24 increasing by 50% giving 35...
It's only 35 instead of 36 because of the weird rounding rule of 2h weapons in this game; anything with 2h or spear weapons could possibly be off by an integer
Glad you enjoyed the video though!
Thanks, man. Really helpfull. Speedrunners can start taking notes
Awesome Video Bro!
You’re awesome dude. Thanks for this. I had no idea the helms and sages wills stacked.
Croton never disappoints us with all these videos. Keep up the good work the vids are very entertaining!
Sidon's ability is much more useful than I thought
Thank you a ton! I usually disable every sage save fot Tulin, since I find them to get more in way than they actually help me - especially Mineru
But you can do so much fun stuff with these guys :D
imo, all the sage ability in totk (beside Mineru) is on par with all champion ability in botw, even better in many scenario but totk make it extremely bothersome to try to use it (beside Tulin while gliding). If only they map all the sage ability onto button like how champion ability did in botw or just add it in as an option on the wheel instead of having useless thing like map taking a spot on the wheel. I really hope someone just make mod to fix the way to use sage ability or someone already did?
I see why it's hard, considering only one of botws abilities had a unique action (holding jump for revalis gale). Urbosas and daruks abilities were just added on top of previous actions, which I wasn't a fan of and prefer the sage way of manually activating each ability
There is that useless wheel slot used for the map though...if that could have been changed to an ability of your choice that would have been cool!
@@Croton i get why not everyone enjoy how botw champion ability work so that why i think they should just make sage ability as part of the wheel and we can use it like one of our ability, allow us to custom the wheel would be nice tbh. I know a lot of people dont use amiibo so amiibo and map slot can be switch out with 2 sage ability (my pick would be Riju and Sidon)
That's a good plan!! I assume the abilities could be favorited from the key items menu (just like how they can be turned on or off) which would add them to the wheel!!
I play with amiibos, so I'd probably save the one slot for sidon
@@CrotonOh I hated Daruk's and Urbosa's abilities! I would waste my Protections with the most random bokoblin attack and then have none left for a guardian. And don't even get me started on Urbosa's Fury, that thing alone made me stop using charge attacks all together just in case I needed the ability for later.
Off topic, but Mipha's Grace was also kind of bad, since it removed all challenge in the late game. I never saw a Game Over screen again, and that takes part of the fun.
I much prefer the more versatile and fun sages, I just wish they could be used more easily (without being invasive like the champions)
Sidon's ability is the most practical as stated it makes you take no damage from attacks once, protects you from heat damage, can be used a projectile with the three weapon types, and giving you the wet buff for shooting bomb arrows in volcanic area or always producing a electric discharge with fused electric materials. Its just ridiculous how good Sidon is, always knew Sidon was the best and I don't regret going to Zora's Domain first.
Me playing tag during combat against enemies with the sages just to accidentally activate Tulin’s ability and blow away all drops on the ground into the water 500m below
thank you Croton for making these types of videos. I have one suggestion: make a Tears of the Kingdom run with a randomizer or any mod in a stream
Wow, never thought of them that way, great for informing us in things Nintendo failed us to tell
*Looking at you Aonuma*
Except for Tulin, it felt like the Sages acted as distractions only. It didn’t help that when they weren’t holding off not-attacking, they were running away from you, forcing you to spend the battle sprinting after them mashing the ‘action’ button.
I think a lot of people fail to appreciate how clearly hard they worked on making them do two things that elevate them above other similar helpers
1. they get out of the way whenever they're blocking your view
2. they don't attack constantly, but seem to use strategy.
Huh, so Sidon's ability isn't as useless as it has been made out to be (aside from his base damage/combos)
Sidon's ability is awesome. I always use a pristine zora claymore with Sidon's ability to take down lynels and gleeoks.
All these things sound nice, till you realize you have better versions of it.
That shield sounds cool, but you have to stand there doing nothing as many actions will consume it, which means you saw the attack coming and could just use anything to counter it. If you want to use it to attack it isn't as good opener as others and in mid combat you can get hit stealing it from you.
The environmental use is offset as heat not effecting Link is solved through items or clothing which means you don't have to worry about managing a bubble constantly especially if you find something hostile. And the one niche use of letting you use Bomb Arrows in some new situations is nice but is also offset by the fact you have many types of arrows you can use.
This, when you compare it to the tools you have, is effectively useless most of the time outside of extremely niche situations that almost never come up unless you're going for an specific build or challenge.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 there will always be people that hard disagree no matter what new information is given. To each their own. 👍
This is making me want to start playing Tears of The Kingdom again, and start experimenting with the rpg mechanics.
Thanks for your effort
Bro... I was so confused when that pack of Bokos dropped a ton of meat. Then I realized that one had the backpack on :D
not really a stat, but it's probably good to note that Link can fire arrows when he's on Mineru's back
Omg croton you so epic good vid
Tulin's damage buff is super interesting! Nice find.
This guy is the best explainer in the world legit
I wish there was a way to continue upgrading them past the Sage’s Wills. Maybe it takes quite a few rare items to craft some item similar to a Sage’s Will. I’m used to grindy games, so if I want my Riju to do like, 500 damage per swing, I’d be willing to grind resources for that.
all i could think about towards he end was how much i miss botw because of the og shrine battle music
I wish they did more damage. I don't really use the abilities other than Tulin and Mineru because they help with traversal.
Just in time for my new Totk no map + all recipes play through!
No wonder this game took so long to make. It’s so minutely detailed.
i have think about they can use other button instead of button a, Riju will activate her lightning when you pull the bow, Yunobo is throw button, Sidon will be lock on or block button, and Tulin will be charge the jump button when on land but if fly the jump button don't need to charge. and can cancel those by pressing run button, except sidon ability. and this work without they must staying near with you.
seriously, botw champion ability work like this
I don’t like the sages ability at all, but I must recognize it’s a more well thought and carefully made feature than the champions ability
Tulin is my personal bodyguard with his headshot capability being near constant
4:12 is the most satisfying clip lol
rlly nice
I just have 1 question, in the final boss fight and enemy horde, are the sages reverted back to level 1? As Mineru changes back to the level 1 colour scheme and none of the sages wear their helms.
Thanks
Tulin is so broken... He gets so many head shots, which provides so many opportunities to get big damage.
I feel dumb, I got TOTK the day it released and never really used the sage's aside from DPS, I never thought about using sidons water shield to help fight moldugas
I think I might just put some work into my Yunobowling
i also think about if the sages are playable. like they have their unique fighting skill and ability.
After watching, what I’ve discovered is I didn’t use the mech nearly enough. Whenever I get up to a new play through, I will use her way more.
I feel like people did not take into account how the camera zooms out when you use her. Anyone who's played Monster Hunter or similar games knows that camera-zoom is massively misleading when it comes to running speed. She LOOKS slow, so people think she is, but she covers very decent ground even without the fan, and climbs slopes effortlessly. she's no horse or motorcycle, and certainly no hoverbike, but I find it's usually worth hopping on her back when going some distance on foot.
Tulin, my nephew, my ride or die, my right hand, where would I be without you? 🥹
please make more 👍👍👍
you know it makes sense that Riju's ability would basically be a weaker form of Urbosa's lightning considering she's so much younger and probably weaker but it still kind of sucks to the point I've never used it.
But Croton, what are the stats behind the mega-ding scale?
MINERU CAN FLY I WISH I KNEW THAT BEFORE
well, she can glide a little.
Why is the thunder line in zelda so cool
I wish cannon damage scaled with the game a bit more
I can't help but wonder how Sidon's skill damage works with zuggling. Like does it only use the damage of the weapon actually equipped or does it use all their damage? Probably the former.
yes!
I did not know wings/balloons did anything on Mineru!!?!
What is the most efficient way to farm for zonite?
This is fascinating, especially because I can't _stand_ Mineru, and didn't use her almost ever :"D
Reupload ?
Finally
I was fusing gloom spears to Mineru before watching this video. I didn’t know they had good durability. Do gloom clubs have the same 15 durability?
I believe 14 - so close enough!!
One thing that will never get old is when people make a video on TotK and use BotW music
I left a comment before about the math at 5:28. Is that supposed to say 50%?
The damage increase is additive - so 50% more than 20 is 30, and 100% more (50%+50%) than 20 is 40!
(In the visual the second arrow is going off the first arrow in an attempt to imply this)
Oh I understand. That visual confused my brain 😅@@Croton
I tried my best 😂
Oh shoot Sidon is way more useful than I though
Sidon's shield is the lamest sage ability at first glance, but it has some really interesting use cases otherwise.
I absolutely love this, but I feel like I’m even more confused now 😵💫 (mostly because I’m an idiot, not because you didn’t explain it well enough)
Hi carton
I don’t care how much damage they do I just want them to be useful
Uh oh, reupload, what happened?
What is your favourite sage and why
Mine is Yunobo because I hate mining with weapons and bombs
What's with the reupload?
Wait, THERES A PURPOSE TO THE DIVINE BEAST HELMETS SHOWING UP ON THEM?!?!?!?
