Thanks, I made sure that the bassline was clear in this, you can barely hear it in the original (I know that was Jason) so I took the bassline from the "And Justice For Jason" version. I don't think Cliff wrote all of To Live is to Die but he certainly had a strong influence on it. I did a bit of One on mandora and mandolin on my Facebook page as well, I'm a big fan especially of their 80s albums.

Viral videos on YT only really happen on a big channel with loads of subs, or very rarely something which really catches mass market attention, usually silly things or perhaps crazy cat videos! More likely to get a viral video on Facebook as the sharing is much more powerful. I had a viral video there but it was hosted by ClassicFM, who already have a large following to start it off. @@Quatrapuntal Well, let's have faith! 😊 And yes, I do know the continuous frustrations TH-cam causes, I have a tiny chanel that's struggling to be noticed, but I'm doing what I love, so that's already a win for me.

Thanks glad you enjoyed it. AJFA was such an immense album and the first real heavy music I had heard when it came out so has a special place for me as well. Quickly then got into even heavier stuff like Death and Morbid Angel but that won't work on the lute!
Yes that would, but it's an acoustic interlude really, not exactly death metal! It's not really possible to do the faster riffs without a plectrum which would completely change the sound, also with no distortion I don't think it would work.
@@AlonaWolf I've never seen them live but have followed them since And Justice For All in the late 80s. That was the album that got me interested in metal so more meaningful, that is why I chose that song. I lost a bit of interest after the 'Black' album and they turned into a rock band!

fascinating and brilliant. and mysteriously points to the archaic influences of Metallica's compostions. Our ancestry lives on in us whether we know it or not!
Like many classical guitarists and lutenists, I started by playing melodic riffs from Metallica when I was a kid. This video beautifully pays homage to this epic piece from Justice for All and I congratulate you on this perfect rendition!
Thank you, I thought that other lutenists might turn their nose up at Metallica! I think the first thing I ever learnt on the guitar was the clean part from Sanitarium. I think that Justice... was their best album, certainly in terms of sophistication and musical interest. I lost interest a little after the 'black' album. Did you ever get into even heavier styles? There is some really complex progressive stuff with incredible musicianship, but some find the extreme metal a bit too much.
@@Quatrapuntal I began with ''One'' and ''Justice'' intro, that was quite hard the time! And yes, Justice is more progressive and complex than the 3 previous albums. Anyway, I hope you will soon publish more videos, your music is so inspiring that I'm now thinking of a left-handed Theorbo! Kind Regards from Québec :)
Thank you, it is difficult not to get discouraged sometimes so helpful when people say things like that. I liked Megadeth as well, though particularly the earlier albums that had Chris Poland on, he's such a great guitarist and has a very individual style in his solos. This is one of my all time favorite albums, it may be a bit too extreme for you but I love it! I was lucky enough to see this line-up live in about 1991, the main guy died about ten years later. @@Quatrapuntal Both! I'm a relatively new lute player but it's been my dream to play some of my favorite metal bands on the lute so you are an inspiration!
@@Melody-zp8qe there aren't that many people that are into both. Softer bits like this work well but I don't know how well something which is all heavy riffs would work. What kind of lute do you have?
@@Quatrapuntal I have an 8 course student lute from Early Music Shop! I definitely won't be shredding on the lute but I was thinking of something like "Mine is the Grandeur..." from Dark Tranquility or some of the softer Opeth songs. I've still got a long way to go before I'm there though!
@@Melody-zp8qe those lutes can be quite badly set up which makes them harder to play. Lutes in general are more prone to buzzes etc. with more strings than guitars, so you have to be very precise with the left hand. It might be worth asking a lute maker to look at and improve the set up if you're serious about learning it, it can make quite a big difference to playability. As the renaissance tuning is similar to the guitar (but higher in pitch - G rather than E) you should be able to play many guitar things on it.
Now, that is something! From someone who cannot bear the almost totality of popular (but at the same time guilty of arranging some of the same) I liked both the video and the playing. Very good and it does work on the bandora, though I could not quite get it why the coda is so different from the rest. I realise this must be part of the original, but still...
The original is almost 10 minutes long, this is pretty much the last third. The last part here is a heavy riff (makes a bit more sense with distortion and drums) which is heard at other earlier points in the song. The whole album has complex structures and development, which is rarely heard in most popular music but more often in metal. I get pretty bored with repetitive and cliche ridden pop songs, but this kind of thing has plenty to stimulate the intellect! Have a listen to the original.
I just saw your Chapman Stick videos, wow that's really impressive! I couldn't get my head around playing like that, did you come from guitar or piano? Well done on the TH-cam channel as well, not easy to get anywhere and get that many subs I know. We should do a collab!
@@Quatrapuntal Thanks for checking out the videos! I think a lot of people will really enjoy your channel and I did see the popular Classic FM post (which is how I first heard about you). Would be happy to consider collaboration ideas!
I guess with the guitar the melody and bassline are tied together because they are both often fretted with the LH, on the stick and in fact baroque lute the two parts are more separate although achieved technically in different ways. Does anyone play it flat like a pedal steel guitar? Then it would be even more like a piano. Yes I wish I had got on TH-cam earlier, years ago there were way less videos and less creators to compete with. You could also rack the views up pretty easily, now it’s much harder. Since 2018 the algorithm and monetisation policies were changed and it’s watch time rather than views that counts most. It was to stop people just refreshing to build up views or using bots etc. I started mine in 2019 and it was supposed to be for the original music which is my main interest, I ended up doing the baroque and other videos to build it up. I have done remote collabs before (the baryton video and acapella vocal piece When the World Turns Again) and have another on the way, not sure what would work on those instruments.
