    Good advice. I do have a suggestion that you make a separate video for "After you pass the CPC" Letting new CPCs that passing the CPC, being a huge step, is step one of many in getting your career started but not the final one. What surprises a lot of new coders is when they go for coding positions, companies want to give them a coding test that catches them off guard. I myself as a CPC ran into this a lot during my job searches. I was also a coding supervisor at a company for a few years and we had the same policy. When I would interview and tell them we had a 25 question coding test, the response was "What?! I already passed the CPC exam!" I think it's very important to bring up situations such as this.

    I'm beyond grateful for content like this! I took a medical billing and coding course from my university and earned a certificate in Medical Billing, but that was a couple of years ago because I have since completed an Associate's degree in OTEC. So, now I'm prepping for my CPC exam. Watching videos like yours help take some of the mystery away from the test so I'm not so anxious about taking it. I've taken some online practice tests, and I've done well on them, but that's just not enough for me. Having experienced coders laying out exactly what to expect makes the whole thing a little less daunting. Thank you so much. I'm planning on scheduling my exam in a couple of weeks, and as nervous as I am, I'm excited too, since passing it opens up a world of opportunities! So, thank you for your videos! And good luck to anyone who is also getting ready to take their CPC (or any coding certification, for that matter.)

      I'd say to purchase the practice exam bundles and take those repeatedly. After not studying for months, I got a 54% my first time taking the practice exam. I've been taking practice exams every week since the new years, and I got a 96% on the last one. I just need to work on my speed, but they really do help to prepare you for the exam. I also purchased the review guide from AAPC, which has 10 question quizzes at the end of every chapter, as well as a 50 question exam at the end. Hope this helps!

    So I just have a general question on if I should pay for the school or if I should just get the $880 box set I’ve been in medical billing and coding for almost 20 something years. My mom was a certified professional coder and she’s who I learned from a very young age. I started entering charges and posting payments over the summers in high school at 14. I feel I’m extremely familiar with CPT codes and ICD 10 codes, and the correlation between the relationship of how to code and understand the relationship between CPT code and ICD 10 codes and modifiers but my hindrance is I spent 17 years in podiatry, and I just now started billing and coding for pain management, and I feel a little out of my depth. My mom who wrote a book on billing and coding in the 80s when she worked for Lake Worth Medical Center passed away in 2021 from pancreatic cancer so I don’t have her as my font of useless information anymore and I feel like I don’t know as much as I should if you were in my position what would you do?? I am a 43 year old woman I love medical billing but I don’t wanna waste $3000 on some thing that I feel I know very very well when I could spend less than 1000 with some study prep and do pretty well, but what I’m really looking for is to just be at the top of my game with some thing that I have loved for so many years.

    I took the CPC exam online and the proctor told me to stop reading the answers out loud. I was so nervous and have a tendency of “figuring” out an answer by reading it out loud. How embarrassing. 😅 so guys if you take your exam at home just be quiet don’t speak lol 😂

    Thanks for this video! I have a question about the case analysis, what does the online set up look like? I have been using the aapc practice exam and it's so confusing to have to click back and forth and even worse on the test not be able to write anything down. It slows me down and I feel like an in person exam on paper might be a better option

    RN here looking to make a career change. Do you have any recommendations on how to do so? I know you may not be too familiar but I figured I would try! I see for the certification you need 2 years experience to sit for the test, but with my background in healthcare I still can’t seem to find too many jobs without the certification even if I would take a prep course

    • @michellepenguin1
      @michellepenguin1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You do not need 2 years experience to sit the exam. However, if you don’t already have the experience, if you pass the test you will be a CPC-A, where A stands for apprentice and there are some requirements for you to get that off your license. My instructor said the apprentice status is not really a detriment to you being hired. Good luck! I did a class through my local adult school that taught me anatomy, med terminology, and billing/coding. My class is about to end and I am getting ready to start scheduling my cpc exam

    • @ContempoCoding
      @ContempoCoding  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are still permitted to use the 2022 book but may be at a disadvantage due to code changes. The exam will be based on 2023 codes starting January 1. I would direct you to the guidance provided by the AAPC:
      www.aapc.com/certification/faq.aspx
      " What year's books should I use?
      Since the code sets for each coding book are updated every year, it’s essential for coders to have the current year’s books/manuals to ensure accurate performance. Reporting wrong codes can lead to denied claim submissions and substantial penalization. It’s clearly very important to get an education on the annual code set updates and to obtain new code books every year.
      All AAPC exams are based on the current calendar year’s code sets, so we strongly suggest you use the current year’s books. The previous calendar year’s books may be used on an exam, but you would be at obvious disadvantage doing so. The upcoming year’s books are not allowed for exam use. The exams are updated every January for the new code sets. Examinees using their second attempt in the next calendar year will not be permitted to take the previous year's exam.
      Note: Please make sure you are now using ICD-10 CM or ICD-10 PCS when needed."
