Currently doing a nuzlocke (black2, but still applies), and the lillipup line also has surprisingly high stats. You get return and the silks carg very early. Stab silk scarf return hits ridiculously hard for such an early game setup. My stoutland has been carrying the nuzlocke since I caught it back in flocessy ranch
The Lillipup line is definitely a great mon for a Nuzlocke. Intimidate automatically makes a Pokemon worth considering in a Nuzlocke. It helps shore up Stoutlands decent bulk, as well as providing some pivot utility even if Stoutland can't contribute directly in a matchup. STAB Work Up + Tackle/Take Down is absurdly powerful in the early game, and like you said, its damage scales well thanks to STAB Return/Silk Scarf, Crunch for Ghosts, and the Elemental Fangs from the move relearner for additional coverage. It's just a very splashable Pokemon in general.
I know this is 2 weeks later, but it also helps that Stoutland can learn Surf. Helps round out the move set so you can deal with rock types and Golurk.

I’ve always said that the two most important encounters to get in an early game bw nuzlocke are Lillipup and roggenrola. Lillipup has stab base 50 power tackle, and access to take down before the second gym, where it will have evolved into a Herdier with intimidate as well. Roggenrola is specifically so that you don’t have to sack a Pokemon to Lenora’s retaliate watchog, as it’s one of the few Pokemon that can withstand it.

I’m a sonic fan so when I saw the anime and saw that Sandshrew and Sandslash can roll up into a ball like a spindash, instantly fell in love plus the design was just so good, I always named mine Knuckles due to the shiny form.
My first game was White, and being young, i just used one pokemon. When my snivy struggled at the first gym, I just started using only lillipup. So I beat pokemon white with nothing but a hilariously overleveled Stoutland (it was in the high 80s for the elite four) and a couple of mooks to tank hits to allow for mid-battle healing.
Stoutland is a beast regardless of speed running or not, truly took me aback as a kid catching that mf probably ten minutes away from the toys r us i bought the game from and him turning into my powerhouse
Smart! Stoutland is an excellent late game all-rounder too and became one of my favorite Pokémon (I used it in final fights in three different games too)
I stand by switching the starter out for lillipup...cause one time in Pokemon white I thought what would happen if I used a different pokemon I think this was in 2011...and in 2020 I played through white 2 and chose to use lillipup hence why Stoutland became one of my fave pokemon...I will always stand by that pokemon line ✌️
They do, but the settings only turn off the animations for moves. The "sending out your Pokémon" animation is always present regardless of your settings. ❤
Love the mind of speedrunners. "If I enter this area facing backwards it avoids eye contact with this specific NPC which makes the speed run faster because if I make eye contact the NPC closes their eyes and that animation makes my walk animation go .001 slower which by the end of the room saves me 1 second on the speedrun" and then they glitch through the floor to the end credits
For Nuzlockes I actually really like having Snivy. Coil/Work Up with access to Leech Seed makes it a deceptively powerful sweeper. Plus it gets Giga Drain, which can keep it healthy for sweeps too. And Leech Seed can enable other setup sweepers for matchups Serperior isn't good against The Lilipup line is really good too and nearly guaranteed encounter. Intimidate on a beefy body with good Attack that can setup sweep with a Work Up or two. Kinda like diet Gyarados, except it gets STAB on Return.

I actually did this as a child on my B&W playthrough. Didn't know it was a real strat.
“For some reason”
Almost as if a fucking game is not designed specifically to be speedran
Stoutland is a beast regardless of speed running or not, truly took me aback as a kid catching that mf probably ten minutes away from the toys r us i bought the game from and him turning into my powerhouse
The dog is made of fur and therefore floats. It is the ultimate floof
Funny how a little detail they added for effect like this makes a vast difference in speedruns.
I remember as a kid, I did do a run where I used lillipup as a starter cause I liked it so much
Lillipup also can have pickup, which is always a good item to have in the early game of a normal playthrough
Smart! Stoutland is an excellent late game all-rounder too and became one of my favorite Pokémon (I used it in final fights in three different games too)
Shiny hunting starter snivy makes these sounds all too painfully familiar.
Lillipup is very adorable too, I always use one (Also because it can be my surf mon)
What's funny is that when I was young I went through most of the game with Lillipup with snivy just hanging around in my party for BW2
It’s surprising to me that it took speedrunners any time to figure out that this animation was longer
Man pt1 and pt2 was the best games of my childhood
Lillipup can also have the ability pickup which can be really good at the start of the game for speed runners.
I'm glad to know that Lillipup is the best starter in the game because a small fraction of players use it for a very specific play style.
Dang those cries are nostalgic
My play was unusually good when i caught a Lilipup and used him as a main until i stopped playing at the first route
I will never give up snivy. My homie is literally so smug and I love it 😂
So your telling me when I did this as a teen when the game came out it was actually optimal. My poor Oshawatt never had a chance.😂
I would’ve assumed speed runners turn animations off but I guess there’s probably different types of speed runs to do in Pokémon
They do, but the settings only turn off the animations for moves. The "sending out your Pokémon" animation is always present regardless of your settings. ❤
I knew my boy lillipup was the real deal. Ever since my first playthrough of black and white I used him and he was amazing for such an early pokemon
Agreed. I got Tepig when I played the game, but instead ditched it for Riolu.
Lilipup also has a brutally strong movie in Tackle which was buffed. With STAB it’s a heavy hitting move for the beginning of the game.
I love that puppers, it was with me all the way to the Champ in White 2
another positive is that Lilipup looks so cv nty when you put them in your handbag
And Leech Seed can enable other setup sweepers for matchups Serperior isn't good against
The Lilipup line is really good too and nearly guaranteed encounter. Intimidate on a beefy body with good Attack that can setup sweep with a Work Up or two. Kinda like diet Gyarados, except it gets STAB on Return.
Black was one of my first Nuzlockes ever and is why Stoutland is my favorite pokemon
Stoutland getting the respect he deserves ☺️
