The strawberry cake song represents every American worker who struggles to get by, and is shut out of the prosperity that their own labor gives to others. Stealing the cake is the defiant, but short-lived gesture of guerrilla class warfare that we all wish we had the guts to do, but fear the consequences. Because in real life you usually don't get to sit under a bush and enjoy the cake. Instead you are punished, while the people who stole your labor stay rich.
Now I understand that that picture of him in the bushes was not about him being high eating cake but it meant something special. (Although he was probably still high lol) but this song was beautiful and made me tear up. His way of singing & songwriting always tells a story that you can visualize and really feel. I appreciate this man so much ❤️
ER hat mein Heranwachsen beeinflusst und ich hoffe ihn in der Ewigkeit persönlich kennenzulernen. Ich mag ihn einfach - damals und heute, den jungen und den alten Johnny Cash.
He could've helped the guy but he went back to his room and wrote a song. Not saying there's anything wrong in that, but just feeling sorry for someone isn't compassion.
He DID gave the man the Strawberry Cake! Mr.Cash, leaves that fact out! It is a confirmed fact. Random acts of kindness, it is J.C.! Do you ~ *THINK*~ the story would have been better /if he told of his own good will? Come on, it is the man in black!!! He is only telling the influence of the song, it is everything he stood for and was!. The Man In Black~ think no deeper. £>
But for the grace of god, there I go too. A sentiment lost to time, but a thought so powerful, it made I see ourselves whether low or high for the same of gods family, it was the unwritten social contract. But know we are all lost to people that won’t rest for all the money in the world, to people constantly losing economic ground the teachers, the nurses, firemen, cop, even the people that clean our streets all because some mega mergers business douche some Silicon Valley kid think the world and everything in it was made for their plunder.
Richie Mars. You are saying capo on 3rd fret with G, C and D. How is key of G moved up 3 half steps the key of B? G is the starting point (up 1 ) G#, (up 2) A, (up 3) A#???
The majority of artists today couldn’t imagine sounding that good live.
This was the golden age of country music in my opinion
What a voice !!!
Everyone thinks this song is funny, but it's really so, so sad. Even the story that precedes it is sad. Man in Black indeed
I teared up so much at this song.

I like your comment very much. There is so much truth in it. /CD
Johnny Cash was right. The best strawberries come from Oxnard, CA.

A pure delight. Thanks for posting this.

Such compassion. He is my hero.

Wonderful song, to the tune of "Strawberry Roan." Johnny was a s real a deal as anyone could ever ask for.
Miss Johnny, June & the Carter family. 🥰🥰🥰 loved them a lot. Miss Mom too😢🥰🥰🥰
Hello Sherry how are you doing today and how is the family?
i get chills every time i hear this song. :3
i get chills every time i hear man in black sings
Did he buy the man a strawberry cake? It is a Johnny Cash song I have never heard before til today.
He's playing it with a capo on the 3rd fret using the open G, C, and D chords. This puts the song in the key of B.
If he’s capo ‘d on the 3rd fret in the G position that is actually B flat
@@jonbutler4681 it’s the same as an open A with the capo on the first fret ain’t it?
@@aleksanderreljanovic correct
Johnny would be surprized to see the number of homeless people today.
The Man in Black does it again.
I had never heard this song before--very moving.
Not his most famous song, but my favourite xx
Johnny cash legend
There's a cool pic of Johnny eating a cake in a bush
That is actually the strawberry cake lol
Amanda Cullum and it’s a hilarious meme now too lol
People think he was high but its literally publicity for this song lol
Johnny cash what a gentleman
The tune is also by Marty Robbins it's called "strawberry roan" but even earlier, from the 1948 movie, A Strawberry Roan, sung by Gene Autry
Jhonny Cash é maravilhoso 👏😍
How sad that everyone in this video is now gone.
Nothing wrong with dying after a while
@@pichofiraviyah8492 right but the guy said how sad. Which it is.
Dinah died a decade before Johnny and June
Amazing footage to be able to watch in 2023
Don't be fooled. He was the man in the bushes.
Lol!
Johhny Cash, not yet the man in black! Beautiful song!
great song..
thanks for the video!!! always Cash :P
Sounds so familiar. like a song that phoebe buffay sang on friends? hehehe
My hometown Oxnard,Ca.🍓🌞
I can't believe I forgot to listen to this on the first of July!
Listen to Johnny Cash talk about how he felt empathy towards a houseless man
Yes.
@2006xr650r That was where he got the tune from..
"I felt like a stray dog they all kicked around."
no dislike yet, so perfect
Does anyone know where I can find this full episode??
I don't know about the "homeless" man story, But I do know that He really did steal that cake & ate it in the bushes lol
No he didn't. That photo was taken just for the album.
I miss you so much, John.🥹😌🥲❤️❤️❤️🍓🍰🎂
We all miss him. J.R Cash is a national treasure. My favourite singer.❤️

Ahah, I was thinking that. Fuck the song, the homeless fella would prefer food. Good song though.
Er war so cool drauf
They're in a better place :)
But for the grace of God ...
heheh funny song
Lol and you got stoned af eating that cake in the bushes
That was actually taken just for the album this was on. He wasn't high. It was on the back of the LP.
:)
This is a really nice story, but it would have been nice if he had given that guy the cake instead of writing a song.
He actually did give the guy some food, he's just too humble to say it on this show.
Give•••• typo
Is that Johnny's wife June Carter on the other side of Dinah?
Yes.
@@tomtem9887 lol you made me smile =)

capo 3rd fret is b flat
+Jeremy Gallion yes b flat is equal to a sharp.. Not b
Bro didn’t give him the cake💀💀
anybody know the chords for this song?
Capo 3rd Fret, G, C and D7.
@sexxyjames no but Vinyl
Y'all don't get mad at me, but i think he's way better than freddy mercury
