Pete…..you’re a cattleman. Plain and simple. But the love and compassion that you show to your animals is truly inspiring. THIS IS FARMING THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. With integrity, intelligence, compassion and love. Thank you for showing the way Pete.

My youngest g-daughter lil Miss Cassidy came running down the hall from her room when she heard “ C’mon COWS “.
This girl has not been exposed to real cattle due to the fact she lives in a suburban environment .
She is completely fascinated by videos of your cows.
She curls up under my arm on the couch, and makes me rewind back to her favorite parts !!!
That ….for me ….is a very good morning.
Creating memories ….. have a good one Pete !!

When I was a young girl, I found and picked Rag Weed because I also thought it was pretty. I hung it in the heater room to dry not knowing my father extremely allergic to it. My folks were very surprised to find it hanging in the house. Lesson learned.

A calm farmer is felt by the farmers animals, makes them feel calm because they feel your calm. Moving about them talking.....calm, reaching out but not in an agressive manor. I think for the most part we can feel the change coming in our lives, we may not see it, or even begin to move in that direction. Seeing, reacting to this change to late, you tend to miss out in, enjoying your life to the fullest. Thank you for sharing this time, with us Pete.

The plant you called ragweed is actually golden rod. They both bloom at the same time so a lot of people get them confused. Golden rod is insect pollinated while the green ragweed is wind pollinated. Love your channel!

My grandfather had docile herds. We'd go out in the pasture with them and bring treats. They'd see us coming and do a bit of a dance. It was always hard to see them go, but that's part of farming

I always enjoy listening to your thoughts about stuff. I also as you worked 47 years but indoors as a manager. I then stopped and went to my second stage in life doing Property Maintenance as a landscaper outdoors 15 years now. I also view things much different as I age. I remember when I would wash my wife's car and all of mine every Friday. I stopped doing it 15 years ago and do not miss it a bit. This year October I will be semi retiring and looking forward to it. As you say it truly is about Time. Another year another season. I live in the City and not so much a fan of it. The people almost remind me of Ants (no offense just saying) seeing everyone going to and from work always in a hurry. I do not miss any of that. I truly focus on the little things now and Mother Nature. The dirt and soil seem to bring me back to my roots.

I feel like with cattle, the energy you put in, is the energy you get out. You yell and hit them, they’ll get angry and frustrated. You talk calmly to them and keep your movements soft and gentle - that’s what you get back.

I LOVE your ideology about “TIME”, and I can not agree more!
I was offered early retirement at age sixty, eight years ago, and I accepted with NO REGRETS.
After forty-two years in the utilities biz, I was READY!
I now spend my TIME on my farm, doing what I want, on my schedule, with a few exceptions.
I did not want to “die on the job” like so many of my acquaintances.
I wanted (NEEDED) TIME for me, and my family.
    Thanks Pete, for that reminder.

Hello Hillary and Pete from Australia. I’ve been watching your channel for a number of years now and really enjoy the natural way you go about telling your story and how you achieve so much with so little. I too had a long executive career like Pete, after having grown up in a modest farming environment. Now we are back home where I grew up and run a 1200 acre mixed beef cattle and cropping operation on Australia’s Southern Darling Downs - about 2.5 hours south east of the Queensland city of Brisbane. I’m 64 years young and am still full of energy for this lifestyle. Indeed I’ve been working all my life to just be a farmer. Thankfully our youngest son has the farming passion because without his work we wouldn’t have a chance of holding this place together. We care about the land and embrace what we would call a pragmatic regenerative farming approach which is what I think you do. I like making old things new again also but in my case the colour green is king 😬. Anyway I didn’t mean to write an essay. Just wanted to say hello and thank you both for the inspiration you provide for folk like us.

Absolutely, don't think you take time for granted. Time is different for different people. I volunteer in supporting the end of life ( Hospice ). Hearing those regrets from these individuals ( time related ) is about denial and inhibition, heart breaking. Thank you so much for sharing about time!!!

Great video as always and simple way to explain our individual perceptions of time and place. By the way great pork chops and I’m sure Ezra enjoy his lunch with the little mouse on the structure in the background at 29:47 😅

Upper right-hand corner behind the snout of the MD on the back wall along the horizontal runner... Good catch, Peter!

20:55 solidago! Everyone confuses the two because they flower at the same time usually. Ragweed gives people very bad allergies because it has wind dispersed pollen. Solidago or “goldenrod” has insect dispersed pollen and doesn’t give anyone allergies. People are always saying that goldenrod is giving me bad allergies when it’s actually ragweed

That bull lowing in the background at 1:03 sounds like the Frankenstein creature

I believe the pick flower in the heifer area is red shank or lady's thumb. It's a member of the knotweed family and is invasive. I see in my are of NY quite often. Thanks Pete and Hillarie for another fine and enjoyable video.

I really enjoy all your videos. Looks like Goldenrod instead of Rag Weed. With a positive identification, it makes a great hot tea.

That is truly a superior way to herd (call?) cattle. I have had occasion to help with that activity on a largish (600 acre) farm in South Dakota and it was doable although the cattle were a bit skittish. I tried it in Arizona on a 5000 acre ranch and gave up because I didn't have a horse
