Let us never forget Rimmer Directive 271 - No chance, you metal bastard!

One of my favorite shows. Here scenes are right up here with Cats solutions to problems. “An inventive and courageous solution Cat, with just 2 small problems”. Gold.

Brilliant ongoing joke in this series

Interesting point. Kryten hadn't been built when Red Dwarf was lost, so he and Rimmer are likely quoting different editions of the directives. I like to think Lister figured this out some time ago, but A) wants Rimmer to work it out himself to give him a sense of achievement, and B) finds it hilarious.

Also, I'd love to see the incident reports behind some of these directives!

The best part about the ongoing jokes in Red Dwarf is that they mix and match so well, and there are enough of them that you could go several episodes without one only to be sideswiped with it when you least expect. Kryton's Nipple Nuts got me laughing every time, but Rimmer's ineptitude never failed, either.

    RIMMER: Kryten what about 7214?
KRYTEN: 7214? 'To preserve morale during long-haul missions, all-male officers above the rank of First Technician must, during panto season, be ready to put on a dress and a pair of false breasts.' Is that really necessary? I mean here we are in mortal danger and you want to be a cross-dresser?

Fun fact: This is an actual Space Corps Directive, it’s included in the 1996 Log Book

Rimmer: Kryten you are forgetting space corp directive 8128.
Kryten: during football season all officers will be grouped together according to which team they support. Here we are in mortal danger and you want to put Lister somewhere else for supporting Liverpool.

Riddle me this......why does everyone on the internet seem to call them Space "Corps" when on red dwarf they clearly say Space "core"? They even reference being part of a Core in this clip. Or am I completely Wrong?

I was never sure myself until I made this vid 😄. I'm pretty sure it's 'Space Corps', based on evidence on fan websites that refer to the original books. reddwarf.fandom.com/wiki/Space_Corps_Directives

I think because it’s a military system that it might be both, core referees to the human core world’s ie our solar system and corps referees to the group rimmer is a member of

Corps is pronounced Core. Or Cor, if you will, silent p and s.

Blame a lot of military lingo coming from French, and being pronounced that way by British English speakers. Counterexample: lieutenant (leff-tennant).
