This open and go multi-sensory approach has really eased my nerves about how I would approach this mile stone in homeschooling- teaching my son how to read! Thanks for this! Do you keep the teacher manual out when doing a lesson? Or do you try to look at it ahead and then not have it open...as far as distracting the child? Or are they fine if you’re referring to it during the lesson?
If my memory serves me correctly, I scanned the lesson before I sat my son down with me, so I could keep his attention for the short time that he would sit and attend. I did keep the book open and off to my right to glance down at for those lessons where there was more script to read using ziggy. Hope that helps.
Could you teach the uppercase, lowercase, and sound lessons for a letter each week...or is this something you have to go in order from lesson 1 to the end?

I'm sorry I don't know. After we used this program, we passed it on to another family. Maybe try all about learning website or send them an email or give them a call. I'm sure they will gladly give you that info.
This was an awesome video! Very informative! I’m planning on purchasing the deluxe package next month. How long would this level take if we did 5 lessons a week? I’m wondering if we would be able to complete Pre Reading and Level 1 in one year or if that’s too rushed. Thank you!
Tatiana Vargas Thanks, glad it was useful! This level has 78 lessons and that's the pace we took once my son could recognize and name (correctly) all the uppercase letters.once he had those down we went at a steady pace of one lesson per day for 5 days all the way through to the end. We did a letter a week until he was confident with each letter and slowed down and took longer on the lessons where certain rhyming, clapping syllables or letter sound recognition was more difficult to grasp. So all that to say that It could take roughly 16 weeks to finish the pre level and move right into the level 1 but it all depends on your child. We are just starting level 1 and I can already see how well the pre-level has prepared my son-super happy! Have a great year ahead!

I purchased it at Costco, years ago. Costco usually puts workbooks out around this time of year or maybe scholastic has them?
I have been looking at AAR for my son for the Fall, pre-reading level also. One question: Is this a curriculum designed to be used 5 days a week? Thanks for the great review! This is likely the program we're going to use.
Rachel D. You can go at your child's pace. You can do 1 lesson per day or choose 1 lesson per week. We sometimes did the craft one day and read for 20 minutes then the next day we would do the activity in the lesson with the picture cards, really depends. Just keep in mind shorter lessons more frequently is better than taking long breaks in-between lessons (you want your kiddo to remember what you've already learned previous) We love it-it's a solid program! TFW!
Is the bag heavy duty enough to carry heavy library books?
Yes! It's very durable and sturdy love it!
Do you teach this curriculum in conjunction with anything else? For example, for math and other skills, what curriculum do you use or do you only focus on reading right now? Would it be too much to add anything else to this?

I have a question. I have a kindergarten 5 year old and don't know wether to start on the pre-reader or level 1

I'd say if your 5 year old does not recognize the letter names yet or even if he needs more review this would be wonderful because you'll review letter names uppercase first then move into lower case then the last 26 lessons go over letter sounds (lots of playing games, short lessons and a simple worksheet to reenforce the lessons and some simple ideas you can choose to implement if you choose. With that said if your child knows letter names and some sounds I'd start in level one
Where they start to read using the sounds they will learn right away. Hope that makes sense? We adore this program! My 5 year old just started level 1
We did the pre-level when he was 4 and took our time with it last year.
