Kid you not when I say John showed up on our back porch wanting to borrow charcoal. When I told him I'd been elk hunting with his dad and was from Fort Worth he said "far out". Priceless. We were treated to a concert that night for twelve people around a camp fire. I'll never forget it
I have frequently come back to this video ever since learning to play guitar. This song really inspired me to keep playing for some reason. Just a gorgeous cover.
Hi Mike: Love your cover - one of my favourite J.D. songs. Just got back a few days ago from a trip north to Bakersfield, CA to see a great performer, Jim Curry who tours all over U.S.A. & does tribute concerts of John Denver songs. Wonderful to see Jim & his wife & band at a concert hall that seats 3,000 people. I had the 2nd row! I think your cover is really good!! This song and Rhymes & Reasons are probably my two favourite J.D. songs. It would be nice to see you in concert one day too!
I first came across you on TH-cam because you seem to do great 'covers' of all my favourite songs - this is another favourite of mine, great job! Then I listened to your original songs and they are really excellent too - thanks for the music Mike :)
I don't know why I've only just seen this Mike, but this is another song I love, and you (obviously, as always) did it well. It never fails to amaze me how - although they're are two completely different songs - its chord structure is similar in many parts to that of McTell's 'Streets of London'. I did 'This Old Guitar' once at an open mic, and after I played the first bit of the introduction, the audience all started singing the first verse of 'Streets of London' thinking THAT was the song I was about to do! Put me right off, I can tell you! lol Regards, Dave
That old guitar gave me my confident and one of my dearest friends...I love to hear you play your songs ....simply beautiful....one of my favorites ...thank you for sharing. Denver R I.P would be proud. Luv ya bunches!!!!
I love it. Heard this on his "Evening with John Denver" double-LP. Remember those? lol In 1983, I spent 20 bucks (A fair bit of money 30 years ago,) to see John Denver at the Garden State Art Center. Come the night of the concert, it was pouring with rain, and we had outdoor seats. But you just couldn't eat a $20 ticket. We went, got soaked, and heard him give a great show. Ever been to the Art Center? Where are you from in Jersey, Mike?
Mike, this a wonderful rendition of this song. The quality is superb and, if you don't mind I will keep it on my mp3 to listen to it out of here as well. Congratulations.
