@@RealCivilEngineerGaming You can use water dumps to hydrate plants as they dump drinkable water. I usually bomb a square and put a water dump on it to constantly fill it with water from my storage. This incentivises getting more water storage, which is why i have 4 big tanks lmao. This seems better in my opinion as I wouldnt have to keep pouring out water to a river, I would just put water on one block to make a whole area green.

4:30 Dam blocks overflow when they reach +0.5 of water, you are basically storing just .5 block deep of water, while the rest probably just evaporates with time. I think you should change them for an 1-tall gate, as you can just close them shut on dry and keep at .5 on wet

Have you considered, if you optimised your paths rather than just randomly laying them everywhere, your haulers might get more work done? You should also consider the paths they take in the making of a finished product, with all the stages in between, try and put things near each other, and if moving a building cuts a big chunk off a beaver's commute, maybe do it. You might double the useful work a hauler does, so you can halve their number.
You could also put water closer to where the beavers work, since they all need to drink every day. Have one guy hauling it instead of them all running around to the barrel.

    • @Pystro
      @Pystro ปีที่แล้ว +1

And re-working the paths would also be an opportunity to re-design the industrial areas. The one on the lower level has grown to where it's the main culprit in terms of blocking possible paths. And the iron and dynamite production exclave can not share it's power with the food and wood themed factories.
I'd probably move all powered buildings from the lower area to the upper level (and by "moving it" I mean building a replacement before demolishing and re-claiming the resources). The upper level has the advantage that the power can be connected in the back (as he's done it at 12:14 with the paper mill and dynamite factory), while the access paths branch off the main path along the front. And the storage of intermediate materials would then best go directly on the other side of that main path.
Completely re-working the layout of the colony could easily increase the efficiency by 40% (wild guess, I'm no expert). But I don't think RCE will actually do something like that. Building a larger reservoir just makes for a better thumbnail (even though the current colony survives 26 day droughts just fine with the current size, and RCE himself admitted that he sees it as future proofing). The little dynamite holes probably gave him all the drought resilience that he would ever need. It doubles the evaporation time for basically the same amount of water released, which is the same benefit as doubling the reservoir size.
And in terms of water, I'd put (at least) one large water tank near the new log pumpers and the iron mine. This will minimize the hauling distance from those 4 pumps (which is important if the haulers don't keep up during a wet season) and put the water closer to where the beavers are. In fact, I might actually move the water tank from the rear edge of the map to that same area as well, unless there's some water consuming building that can be built next to that tank (or if the tank is supposed to be a reserve that isn't supposed to be tapped during a normal dry season).
By the way, that piece of land with the iron mine is the only place from which beavers can access any of the water pumps! I'm not sure if RCE realizes that the path through his water reservoir extension is now disconnected from the top of the dams.

RCE- I found that the best way to manage the droughts is to pump out and store as much water as possible every single day, and leave a water dump running without haulers assigned to it. This way you don't even need flood gates. You can also have them dump into a full-height reservoir so they stop dumping when it's full. If the reservoir has any dam pieces to prevent it from getting to full height, they will continue dumping your precious water. If you use dams, place a water pump at the bottom of your river to recycle the water back upstream to the water dump. I'll even make a one tile reservoir using 8 levees and place a water dump in an area far away from rivers to grow more crops using practically zero water and never worrying about dry seasons. Cheers!

But it's still going to be an interesting challenge, especially with what I've seen from TH-camrs playing on the experimental branch recently. I just want a toggle for badwater to give the players more options... and if the devs want to make badwater more interesting, they could give it other effects than simple death-causing toxicity. Insane beavers who can't stick to their assigned tasks, insomniac beavers who work themselves 24/7 to death, not even stopping for food or water...and I'm sure we can think of other possibilities.

I did this map on this difficultly and flooded downstream and made a crap ton of log pumpers. I was able to support 160ish beavers on a drought of about 28 days. You just have to have a massive amount of water storage and then a ton of pumping power when the wet season begins.
You also don't have to demolish resources, you could just clear the planting area and then you'll naturally cut them down and keep the resources. You could even reduce the tree cutting radius to just the trees you want cut so they get prioritized.

    A few suggestions:
    1) you loose a lot of time in travel. Think about adding shortcuts, for example along the waterfall's cliff, and a path up the dam from the farm area.
    2) demolishing and cutting down take almost as long, try placing woodcutter flags instead of demolishing.
    3) you are not using winter vs summer jobs efficiently. do try to pause all industries (ideally including food production) in wet seasons, and pause all/most water pumping in dry seasons. mushrooms and algea are extremely efficient at producing food. mushroom produces close to 200 food every ~4 days, so can last 50 beavers per complex. just never pause it. algea needs a lot of canola oil, but produces close to 400 rations per iteration.
    4) mangroves are a good way to use your wet areas, as long as they are only one deep. they can survive underwater for some time, so you can drown them right before a drought then pump them to the surface.
    5) relaunch pumpers a bit before the end of the dry season, to get a few more days of pumping if you can afford it.
    6) for 60 beavers fed with hydroponics, I found out that 10k water storage allows to survive more than 3 max sized droughts with min sized wet seasons (3-4 days) inbetween.
    7) set some storage to "send to other storage", specifically water tanks near your pumps: this will cause your waterpumpers to do the short trip to the tank, and your haulers to do the long trip to the city center.
NEVER reduce your number of haulers below your number of pumpers.

To hydrate fields you can just dynamite holes and put a water release on top of it - it only takes a few units of water to fill the hole and each one lasts around 10 days. If the field dries out you can just unpause the water release.
There's a mod which will let you add a water level sensor and tie the activity of buildings to it, so the water release will automatically turn on when the water drops below a set level.

Hi, RCE. Useful tip (that has saved me a few times): you can have your foresters plant berry bushes. Wild berry bushes spread, but forester planted ones won't grow beyond the patch they're planted in. You could have one area for just berries to sustain the breeding pods, and then remove the rest to plant trees instead. You can replace trees you removed though the power of forester engineering, and still have plenty of berries! You need to pay attention to your trees *and* your berries!

Architectural engineering focuses its study on the design of all building systems, including the mechanical, lighting/electrical, and structural systems of a building, while also planning the construction process of buildings and building systems.

as now, you don't really need to make paths on top of the dams, maybe if you change them to leavers and walls it maybe work for the problem of the missing water too

When is somebody gonna tell him, that after he set up the Hydroponic stuff once (i.e. getting the 40 water inside), they dont need any more water, until the growth circle is done? He´s stressing too much about that :D

So happy to see another Timberborners episode! You should check out Airborne Kingdom! I have really enjoyed playing it and I think you could make some content with it. Not a lot to it so maybe not a series but potentially something for you to compile for fewer. I love the way you run these sim games

Once you have dynamite, blow a single hole in the middle of each farm, have a water dispenser fill the holes and it should keep them green!

  • @nacoran

When you have the faction with the infinite depth pumps you don't really 'lose' the water. Yes, you lose the ability to dump water downstream, but you can keep your pumps going. Really useful if you want to run your hydroponics. With your dam you want as much depth as possible and as much total volume. And don't forget, you can dynomite stuff to increase the depth. I think ideally you'd have virtually everything on platforms over a dam, except farm land and a connector road.

You got me into this game and I started last week. I’ve got 140 beavers 6k water and 7k food. I’m so worried about all my beavers dying of thirst and stuff so I’ve got like 20 log pumpers haha 😅😅😅

2:00. Actually architecture in Spain is not taught at liberal art universities. It is taught at tecnical ones because they have to learn about maths and physics and materials to not only design the building, but also design how it must be built. They are architect engineers.

so, water coverage does more based on altitude. the most you can get is on the same level. What i tend to do in this game is create a single cell of water using four levies and a dumping post. the dumping post uses almost nothing, and because it is a single cell the evaporation is as slow as it gets, but the range is enormous. requires a permanently assigned beaver, but as a result you never have to drain the reservoir.
The upcoming bad water update scares me for this exact reason. having to completely empty contaminated water reserves is going to be tricky and manually involved.

Hi! You could make a 1x1 hole in the middle of the fields with a dynamite like you did in the river and than build a water dump over that hole... it should use minimal water and keep land green.

  • @quantum2330

that evaporation idea might be good, you could probably detonate jus the entire edge of the river is the only place you need water in to keep stuff green

One improvement that would drastically help with water retention IN the dam, would be just taking more care when letting water out to replenish the river. Dumping a quarter of the available water storage to refill the river each time and making it overflow at the end will still eat up all that water storage just as fast, no matter how much it is expanded, as you'll then just be dumping more water to be wasted in overflow disappearing off the map.

You can build a wall of platforms on the back side of a 3-high floodgate. Then add a floodgate with the 1st level the same height as the top of the front levee. it'll just pour past the roof and go downstream, so you can have a series of these that can still contain water just fine, Just remember to activate the back ones first. lol
