I just got the idea while looking at the video: would you consider, if at all applicable to you, a video where you talk about how you "change" the use of items that no longer work for you in their first intended purpose? Like, for example, I have an old coin purse that was abandoned because I stopped using cash altogether (or very nearly) and I started using it to keep my cords and cables instead of having them tangled in my bag - I think it would be great to have your input on how to "repurpose" items in a way that works for you
Take the bag to a shoe repair place. They will also repair those straps on the bag. They have the right stitching machine to get thru thick materials. My shoe repair place has a luggage repair service (zips/handles on suitcases etc) so they have industrial grade machines.
i think my goal right now in my zero waste bag is to make it lighter. for years, i'd take everything i could possibly need just in case. all it did was go unused and make my shoulders hurt. now i'm happy with just a tiny water bottle, a straw, a fork, keys, & my phone! and if i'm just going to grocery store, or to a friend's home, i'm good with even less!
I usually buy a new calendar every year, but lately I’ve been thinking of just getting a refillable calendar or atleast a refillable notebook. That way I can customize it just the way I want it. I got a regular hardcover calendar this year that didn’t have dates, and I’m absolutely in love with it! I tend to go back and forth using my phone calendar and a physical one, so I’d save alot of paper by getting a refillable one. Much like the one I have now, they also sell refill pages without printed dates (and regular ones with dates of course) so I can just start again on the next page without having to skip weeks or months ahead after a period of mainly using my phone calendar. And I’m very much a list person, so being able to add in list sheets wherever I’d like is very exciting lol
Love the energy. I have 2 bags. One is for dog walks (needs to be water resistant) and the other is linen form etsy. Always full of napkins I acumulate when I am out:)
Thanks for sharing an update on your zero waste bag! I know that my kit has changed a lot since I first started carrying "zero waste" swaps so it's cool to see how yours has evolved, too.
I have that exact spork! Now that I work from home I rarely use it but I used to call it my “cake in the breakroom” spork because that was such a frequent occurrence in an office setting! Also I ADORE that you’re still rocking the same bag. Anti-haul loving what we have is where it’s at!
love this energy! i actually LOVE that you always show the same because I feel like it's not just me being sustainable and re-using it over and over and over again and it's great that you practise what you preach! much love x
I love the bag, such a shame they don't make them anymore. It's such a good idea to recycle something like seatbelts because whatever you make out of them is bound to last
How do I store my 200€ knitted sweater? On my couch...it's like a ball of knit.. I wear that thing daily and it's just there when I got too hot or I went to brush my teeth (I'm not playing with the stains, I don't wanna wash it unnecessarily). 😅😂
You can take the pencils. They are there for that. Usually they are cheap and shit, sometimes not. But they are there so you'll take it and be a free ad for the hotel.
Thank you! You make sustainable living look so easy and so natural. I'd love to find these products in Canada. We're so far behind the sustainable wave it's not even funny!
I have the same Toothbrush holder, and I also got it from Hamburg!! A friend and I had a bad day on vacation there, so we went to the "Ungerpackt Laden" after the Elbphilharmonie 😂 nice video as always
Omg, I developed this horrible habit of keeping every receipt I get and during these 2 years, I've accumulated quite a lot of them. And it's frustrating because, like a true horder, now I'm not able to throw them away! 😂 And also, recently I learned that they are not recyclable so I guess I'll keep them forever 🤣 Anyway, as always, I enjoy your content so much, very refreshing, motivating and always a reminder to be mindful, modest and appreciate what we have 🥰
I'm just curious.....WHY can't you throw the receipts away? Could you assign that duty to a friend to do for you? It is very freeing to let go of things like that. ♥
I have ADHD so I'm prone to forgetting things, so sometimes I'll buy duplicates of my zero waste swaps. I have two different bags I use (one is a diaper bag and one is a small one, just for me). I Swapping them back and forth has resulted in me simply forgetting certain important things, and I'd much rather have the swap available and have two than not have it at all! 😅
You can return all the Oyster cards and get a £5 deposit back from each card (plus any money left on the cards) and then use contactless in the future!
I too have messed up teeth and floss everyday. I'd love to swap regular floss for a more sustainable one but it is so expensive! Is there anything you can recommend, Gittemary? Thank you!!!
I saw a cool video at some point, where they took all the free tote bags they have gotten at events and made a jacket out of them ( I can not remember who it was but if you search it up I am sure you would find it)
those headphones look like they shed a helluva lot of microplastics with every use 😮 wouldn't it be better to retire them and just find a woolly headband or sth?
I'm sorry about having a new reusable water bottle every week. I am just really good at misplacing things, to such an extent that I used to joke that I was going to be a professional loser when I grew up.
She gets most of her stuff second hand. Then you don't support the industry by buying directly from them. Use what has already been produced kind of mindset. Hope that helps.
It is up to each individual vegan how they feel about second hand/vintage non-vegan materials. I wouldn't buy new silk, wool or leather, but I do buy them second hand, because they are durable and practical, and already in circulation - I wrote a post about it, you can read more here: www.gittemary.com/2020/11/wearing-leather-as-a-vegan-my-thoughts-and-reflections.html 😊
I speak English, Danish, some French, some German, a bit of Japanese, (I took Russian and Chinese lessons once but forgot almost all of it) and then I understand Swedish and Norwegian quite well

Great idea!!! ♥
yes i would love this because sometimes i can’t think of these ideas myself
omg I respect you so much for your comprehensiveness, I feel like a lot of zero waste content is boxed and filtered by what's "aesthetic"!
Gittemary, you could use the toothbrush holder to hold your straw. I don't think you want that rattling around uncovered in your bag either. 😊♥

I was going to suggest the same thing. I love a good shoe repairs/ cobbler they can save your shoes, bags and luggage 👍😁

That sticker spot on your notebook is a perfect spot for a tiny doodle.

Organ donation - the ultimate step in "Reuse/ Recycle" ♻️😆
hey we’re talking the walk here 💀
😂😂😂😂😂 brilliant comment 👍
I agree, I used to watch “minimalist “ and they would keep declutterring , then go on no buys, but in between , there seem to be a lot of buying.

I laughed at the comments of her always using the same thing 😂😂😂 it is the point of the channel, reuse, reuse, reuse.
@@anaalves3658 Right? that's the whole point, what else is sustainability? these people just don't get it, do they? haha
can't wait to see your 2024 what's in your bag!

You can put your straw in the Toothbrush holder too so it stays clean.

"This is what I use every single day" *pulls out 7 Oister cards* hahaha🤣 No shade, though. That kind of accumilation is hella relatable 😆
how dare you, I frequently use my Oister cards to scrape off dried dough from my kitchen counter #zerowasteessential ♻😂
@@Gittemary hahaha fair 😆
So you have a kitchen counter somewhere hiding in your bag that keeps getting dried dough on it???? 🤔🤔🤔, lol. You do you.
Maybe you can cover the ripped notebook back with a different sticker? I use small stickers to cover branding on jewelry boxes for gift giving
Good idea. I get so mad when thrift stores do this, often obscuring the maker's name/mark.
Always love your energy and overall vibe on your videos!
Another awesome video from Gittemary and a fantastic zero waste bag and great swaps. Love 🥰 the video and love 💞 Gittemary.

*Unverpackt. It means unpackaged. 😉
I would recamend Marly headphones, great recycle option.
Really loved this video! So helpful to see a realistic and real list of what you use :)
I've had the same wallet since the 6th grade. I'm 39.
👏👏👏 amazing. I have a backpack that was my sister's that she got in 1995, I think that it's older than Gittemary😂.

i used to use marshalls as well, they shred so easily and the bluetooth function has been faulty
shit product 🥲

Every time you say "etc" I think of the move Split lol
I would ask why, but I am somewhat hesitant, that movie already takes up too much of my brain
What is the Oitster Card? Is it a kind of monthly ticket for common transport?
The Oyster Card is for London Transport
