I don't think I ever seen a commutator that oily and the teeth on the odd gear seemed longer than the other under magnification. Your perseverance is to be commended. Great repair and video, Jersey Bill.
Good video. Simple and tough old skool Lima engineering that just works and keeps on working. Given a bit of care and basic maintenance these will last for decades.
Great repair Bill just love Lima Deltics, easy to fix and run well even sounding a little bit like big Deltics without the expense and complications of DCC sound chips.
Hi Bill. Nice job. Thats a good looking loco for its age. Most lima models are so old now that show a lot of wear and tear. But with a sharp eye you can still find a good one. I have three of these loco's , one in BR Blue, one in two tone green and the other in Porterbrook purple. Lovely models. I will have to get round to servicing all my Lima loco's and replacing the engines for small can engines. There much quieter and pull well. I like the new T-shirt. Maybe market them in different colours. Good luck to you.
I wouldnt advise using can motors, in fine fettle lima run great, esp the later lower geared motors as shown in the video, give it a service and replace the wires, I did my entire lima diesel fleet and the results are astonishing
@@vikingsmb Hi. I have a Lima class 31 in Fragonset black livery and I changed the motor for a can motor and the difference was amazing. Very quiet, smooth running and powerful. The original motors are ok but can be high maintenance. Can motors with dcc have great slow moving abilities too. I have a lot of them like most people so the fleet will still be running Lima ringfields for some time to come. But hopefully money permitting they will gradually be replaced. Some probably have the miliage of the starship Enterprise so they deserve to be retired. Thanks for your reply.
I'm surprised she ran as well as she did with the state she was in. Another job well done. I'm guessing the unusual gear was a replacement and not the original part but could be wrong.
Really appreciate your investment in the micro camera that can show us what it is you were describing. Great fix on this diesel.

Your forensic approach to regenerating such models should be celebrated. This is the essence of true modelling.

Thanks Bill we're always learning 👍. Always entertaining and informative Thanks for your dedication regards Sam Woodward 😊
As always, incredible attention to detail. Really good to see you bring this Deltic properly back to life.
I have 55s in both those blue liveries, and I agree, the darker blue is really nice
Well done Bill. That service certainly improved the slow running - especially the starts and stops!
Great repair Bill just love Lima Deltics, easy to fix and run well even sounding a little bit like big Deltics without the expense and complications of DCC sound chips.
Nice work again Bill interesting that one grey gear causes excessive noise, like the T shirt. 😊
Another lovely video as that Class 55 heads north from Carlise with an Intercity express the beutiful J27 hauls a steam special south.
Are you going to start selling some “merch”? Really like the shirt and mug! Nice model and great overhaul.
Yup. Now available via link in video descriptions
Haha! As soon as it shot off with a helping hand I thought “that’s just a Lima diesel! They all sound like that!”
Very satisfying schooshing all that static grass and oil off!
Nice service and repair. The layout is looking well .
Brilliant T shirt and Mug Bill 👍
Nice teeshirt and mug bill great repair as usual so much grass on there tho
Great work Bill, another Lima saved!

Great spot, with that gear. Someone over oiled it. Good video. Thank you.

That’s a nominee for the most over oiled loco Bill 😁, wow. Nice job sorting those gears
that micro camera is spot on bill
good work keep up the good vid on channel thanks lee
I have the Lima Fragonset 47 and always been slow and noisy, may have a little play at some point to see if I can improve it
Love the video Bill! At the rate you are going have you thought what your 400th will cover?
Have my eyes deceived me or was the motor in backwards when you first took the body off (3:20)?
Do you ever put commutators in the sonic cleaner regards Sam Woodward
No. I use a diluted ammonia based cleaning solution in my cleaner which could cause damage to the coating on armature anvils.
Lovely Lima 😎
Looks like it’s been running on Sam’s Trains carpet!
That's the risk of second hand bit's and bob's. But It's all part of the fun. Oh joy 😜
Strange that the loco was so oily as someone had obviously gone to the trouble of painting the wheel faces.
cool shirt.
Hi how do I contact you
See FAQ in description.
I have heard of so called green fuels but the previous owner took things a bit far in trying to make their model environmentally friendly.
In my experience Lima plastic ringfields are all haunted
Lima models are notorious for being noisy wouldn't buy any because of that, no working lights too.
no they are not
