I have two Bachmann class 25's of the same era and I've never had any problems with them. When the Heljan class 25 came out people raved how great it was but unusually for a Heljan diesel it didn't have anywhere near the haulage power of the Bachmann class 25 just a lot more detail but for me what counts more is the haulage power not the detail which in due course will all fall or get broken off.
Love the channel. It is a warm and friendly channel. A bit like sitting down for a chat with an old friend. Since you have had the new layout, everytime I see a train running anti across the bridge and it comes around to the left hand side, I expect to see a couple of metal detectorists or an archaeological dig with a roman, neolithic, and dinosaur layer in cross section going down the side. Every single time.
I like these "dead in the water" (or "dead on the rails", to be more precise) episodes, especially now we can get deeper into the action via endoscope-cam.
Thanks Bill for repairing my loco, can’t wait till it gets back to me to give it a good run, it looked good on your layout with the Mk2’s. Thanks again Bob G.
Not the kind of modeling video I normally watch, but still mesmerising none the less. I couldn’t do that, wouldn’t know where to start. Now a subscriber and will check out more content.
So you have 1 25class running at some as a 125. Hahaha excellent soldering skills now have; especially those four wires to the pcb. Excellent video as always Bill. All best Marc from Leighton Buzzard
That was a strait forward step by step repair and you aced it as always. For 8.50 PS or 10.82 us I would always change the board in that case so good call. Great video, Jersey Bill.
You made that look so simple enough even for me to have a go at, and you Bossed that second bogie in a real Treat 😅 Lovely runner and great choice of Coaches - Nice One Bill 👍🏻
A lovely model, and replacing the circuit board brings it back to like new. Personally I would have cleaned, repaired and fitted new components to the board where required, but I was an electronic engineer. I am a little concerned about the soldering technique when you were fitting the bogies. Bringing the solder to the joint on the iron allows the flux to burn off and can lead to dry joints. If doing this you should apply some liquid flux to the joint first. The correct technique is to apply the tinned iron to the joint and then feed the solder in.
It might be on the early "Blue Riband" class 25's which didn't have lights. In due course with various model runs lights were fitted and different colour schemes.
The earlyer models sadly never had working lights, I have a BR Green example, and it's years old and runs as good as ever, the only thing I don't like about it is that it does not have working lights. I also picked up a BR Blue one second had, sound fitted and it' s great, and the lights make the world of differance (well for me anyway)... I am awaiting the New Tooled ones to come out.
@@mikeking2539 At th-cam.com/video/LDqVwu98N7w/w-d-xo.html the snail appears above the pcb board on his vest and from th-cam.com/video/LDqVwu98N7w/w-d-xo.html you see it more clearly above the right cabin of the loco with it's housing. I have to admid i am a little bit autistic, but that seems to be normal in the train enthousiasts community 🤣
The capacitor will have been removed for a good reason, it often caused jerky slow running on DCC. It did on mine anyway. I don't know about DC or later versions of the 25.
This looks to have been the most fiddly of your achievements - a long way from when you started. Can you tell me where and how you got the endoscope, please?
"Jiggery faff"- a new addition to the 00Bill vocabulary!
Viewers need to create an OOBill glossary of words and expressions. Keep up the good work Bill.
As a Brazilian, Scottish non speaker, it's been a pure bumpy ride tae learnin it.
Ta!

Yeah. It's the model railway equivalent of the Repair Shop.

Nice looking diesel, Informative repair, better than cutting the hedge. : )
The loco looked as if it had been stored in a hedge 🤣

Another great repair nice to see the old trains keep going
Recently bought a second hand Hornby 25 with a Ring field motor and love it. This one looks and runs great now, too!
Bachmann covers their gears with white grease as well as oil Bill.

Hi Bill. Very nice job done on the class 25. Always a good engine. Thanks

25's are prototypical for Scotland....a number allocated to Eastfield and Haymarket in the 1970s
Yup. Which is why I want one. Watch this space....

Nice repair well you better get o to the next cutting the hedge
hi Bill, another great repair, but wish people would look after their locos !
Not all Bachmann loco's have any lights mostly the earlier models didn't like the Class 44, class 45, class 46 etc
20:53 I'll be Perth Model Railway Exhibition either Saturday or Sunday if you make it
Another one saved from the scrap heap
Aye yer a talented laddie I fair enjoy your vidyas
How much dou you charge for the hedge trimmin ?
Am I alone in thinking that iteration of the Class 25 shouldn't be carrying that early a number - which looks slightly too big?
give me a 3 pole hornby ringfield any day,
Replacing only the missing capacitator whould have been cheaper. And where did the snail on your vest went?
What snail?

where did you get your soldering iron from ?
Where I get just about everything these days. Amazon....
Nothing like a bit of jiggery faffing by someone to create more work for 00Bill!
You desperately need a Mk1 buffet car for the Mk2 coaches. And a Mk 3 buffet for the HST….
Do you have any examples you could donate?
Rats used to be everywhere in 70-80’s West Midlands! I guess they’ re only to be found in preservation these days 😢
help could you have a look at a Bach 45046 DCC sound for me please
thanks
