  • This is a common issue with this 65" TCL roku 4K led TV that includes models 65s421, 65s423, 65s425, etc. The white indicator light at the bottom of the television will come on and blink when you hit the power, but there's no picture and the screen is totally black with No Backlight. But you still may have sound but no picture.
This video will show you how to replace the led backlights in the TV. This is a step by step DIY backlight replacement for all TCL 65 inch 4S series led televisions.

i was given one of these models.65s425ca (ca because I'm in Canada) with a single show-stopping LED problem .i replaced just a single strip and set the backlight to 60..it's at 100 by default, and all good now. I don't do this nearly as much as you do, but I'm still checking out your course. Rock on Big Dog, and thanks for these videos.

Great instructional resource, very thorough, and especially helpful for getting familiar with TCL LCD/LED Smart TV's before actually beginning to tear-down, or risk breaking anything further, at least back up to the 2018 model.
I have a 43" 4K TCL Series 4 LCD/LED TV, still on its factory feet that my nephew knocked over. When it dropped, the diffusion film buckled out of the retainer clips, causing ripples/rings of varying brightness localized to one spot, and was pushing my LCD screen outwards from the bezel (Think swollen Lithium battery). Followed along with this video, all the way up until the suction cups came out, gently lifted/propped the LCD panel up, and gently slid a plastic spudger, or credit card along the seam of the clips ensuring the diffusion film was in fact underneath on all sides, and then gently set the LCD panel back into place. It laid perfectly flat against the no-longer-curled film, and everything went back together in about 5 minutes. Can't tell anything happened to it.
Can not thank you enough for the time and effort you put in to making this tutorial. I more than likely would've damaged those T-Con connectors, and did have issues getting the bezel off, until I found your video.

Thank You, your video helped me on panel disassembly and what to watch for, I only replaced 1ea LED and the TV was repaired, I did not know condition of the panel and did not want to waste time and money. I cannot tell which was replaced by watching, I give you a 10. Your technique was perfect. I am afraid to tell how I replaced LED but a small torch was used to heat the back side of the aluminum strip....

I have a TCL 55s405 that the backlight comes on, the sound is working (I can hear the menu), but the screen is dark. I tried disconnecting the ribbon connectors on the t-con one at a time and doing that 1 side is dark and the other is white. Fuse on the t-con is not blown. I am thinking about replacing the t-con even though it looks physically perfect. I just wonder if it is the mainboard instead.

My 4K TV turns on but has no picture, only a white ghosting of the menu due to backlight bleed. I tried rebooting, and it worked twice. However, the first time worked for only about 10 seconds before reverting to the backlight bleed, and the second time lasted about 2 minutes. Now, no matter how many times I try, it no longer works. I only see the ghosting of backlight bleed from the menu without using a flashlight. If I use a flashlight, I don't see anything but the backlight bleed.

Hey BigDog great work as usual. My TCL Screen turned black also. I assumed a broken PSU board and switched it. Worked for a day, but today backlight was off after 2h use. Later it worked again. Now if I change the brightness from 100 to 60, it doesnt get darker and then the backlight turns off completely. Is it the PSU, the LED stripe or the Mainboard?

    • @bigdog8882

You have to check the LED strips first. That most likely your problem; a leaky led light on one of the strips.

Now I'm able to use the TV if I get it on for more than some secs it will stay on for hours, only till something happens like PC (via hdmi connected) restarts, goes to sleep mode. Or when it boots up exactly when windows has loaded and the login screen appears. If it doesnt get anything from outside (hdmi) and I use netflix, the backlight won't turn off. When I want to go from netflix to hdmi 1, backlight goes off 😅

Someone just gave me one of this. tv flashes on the logo and immediately shuts off.

yeah, it was an led in one of the strips, it was partially short and then it shorted full when i tested with the power supply.
you need an LED tester for this, they get up to 40 plus volts per strip my power supply only goes up to 30.
is a huge cumbersome tv so if you are planning to tackle this job be aware of that, there is a chance you'll break the led screen if you are not careful, much easier handling by 2 people, plan ahead, have a table set up specifically for this job and perhaps another table to set the screen, i just put it over the bed, have crazy glue on hand even if you are planning to change the whole strip, if you knock one of the light diffusers (the clear plastic cover over the leds) you have to glue them back or else you are going to have a light spot on the tv when you turn it on, thats what i am dealing with and i am going to have to open the tv again to glue the diffuser cus it seems that it fell.
if you change the whole strip thats going to be more expensive but safer.
be careful on every side of the screen, there is plastic ribbons with chips on pretty much every side of the screen except the top if you tear one of them, is game over.
fun project, a little stressful but very doable, have fun
