At a high school contest, I dutted so loud you could hear it on the judge tape. I was snare captain and I was reallly tired of the bass rushing during a slower section, so I dutted my freaking lungs out and it kinda worked...
The senior bass drummer my freshman year said once he had a move to where he pretty much ran across the field and his audible as a joke was "dut dut sit run like a mother f*****" and he accidentally said it Infront of a judge lolll
I loved duts as a guard member because at one point in our show we couldn't see the drum major and there was a long period of silence before the push, so eventually one of the drummers just screamed his duts at the top of his lungs as our cue and it made the whole thing sound 5x better

I miss the roaming Duts. When learning moves we didn’t know where the drums were until full band runs, so you have to keep an ear out for the “Duts” and how close you are to them.
In my sophomore show, write before we had to do a 180 degree turn and do running sixteenths, the snare line would sing the campfire song from spongebob, cause it was the same tempo as that movement
Personal fave of my senior year in high school, we had a dramatic 4 count silence before the ending of our ballad. Our main snare convinced us to silently whisper "dut. dut. dut. p***s" before we double timed to our next spot

Once my high school pep band was practicing parade marching drills and so we were just continuously counting "ONE TWO THREE FOUR" it was very boring. At some point one guy started counting in German and we all just cracked up

my ex had introduced me to seeing theser groups play in internationals and it was totally cool, in a way i can see how its dorky if you compare it to High School, however obviously theres a ton of trasinign time and money put into these shows. Had an aweosome time
he was probably a flute player or something similar, anyone who plays near the drumline in a band doesn't mind the dutting because it keeps them in time too, alot of concert (like rock or other such concert) drummers also dut, I did when I played with my crew

I play back in percussion and I did this with everything. Vibraslap, xylophone, bells, timpani, snare, maracas, sleighbells, chains, the hammer we had to slam into a tire cap for that one weird song, everything.
In short, the music becomes a masterpiece. No one will look at you and think, “aw what? I have to sit through this?” But they will think that this is a masterpiece worthy of the nobel piece prize

We had one of these as a sousa player. We had this huge move across the field that lasted for like 32 measures where we just didn't play. We would go, in time, "Tuba maker, I'm boutta play a (something, can't remember) and I need your thiccest tuba. You can't handle my thickest tuba, the thickest tuba for the strongest of pirates!" Then BWAAAAAAAAAAAA
This is completely unrelated, but as someone who played in Pit, the drill instructors would always throw acorns at our cymbals during practice to gets in trouble. Absolutely hilarious just to hear the random PING! during practice.

This reminds me of how at one point the drum line didn’t have their drums so the director told us to sing our parts.
This is completely unrelated, but as someone who played in Pit, the drill instructors would always throw acorns at our cymbals during practice to gets in trouble.
